Ronnie Laws is the man. Awesome music over the years Pressure Sensitivity, Every Generation, Solid Ground, Mr. Nice Guy, the list goes on and on. He has a unique sax sound, you know it's him immediately. Love his music from childhood to adulthood.
Caught a Ronnie Laws concert in L.A. during the 70's. He breathed fire into this tune back then. Unfortunately, in those days we couldn't movie record live concerts (for reasons I have yet to fathom). Thus, many magic moments are forever lost to 21st Century fans. Though 30 years later Mr. Laws now breathes flame, he still shows enthusiasm for this classic number.
The reason you couldn't record back then is because record companies made money from recording live concerts (mostly on albums, cassettes or CD's) and didn't want the general public to interfere with their ability to make money off their potential sales. What happened since was the invention of cameras on cell phones making it hard to prevent anyone from recording a concert as well as the lesser role that record companies have in the life of an artist nowdays!
I love this song, but the thing that really stands out is the solo by the bass player and the drummer. These guys aint no fuckin joke. OGs got the flava and the funk. Go Detroit!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember when Ronnie Laws came to Chene Park, many years ago, and he asked the audience what songs did they want him to play, and the audience almost unanimously yelled back, “Always There!” Mr. Laws told us that he has other songs that he could play, and the audience protested loudly, until he finally agreed to play it. We love that piece like no other! 💜💜🎶🎶🎷🎷
Every time I watch this video I can't say enough about this drummer and I watch this video often I'm a big Ronnie laws fan but this drummer really kills it another level
This band is very tight the drummer is killin it we need more of this in 2019 where did all of the real talent go today is all drum machines and ssmpeling makes me sick this is the resl deal bring back old school
I just listened to the original recording of this song and the live version ain't hurting that none...Mr. Laws is just that good...Love this love this... 😎😎😎😎
Ronnie Laws Live at Detroit / 'Always There'. A Fantastic, legendary Composer & Saxophonist in his own right. But I'm equally blown-away by that incredibly intricate & almost mesmeric Solo performance by the Drummer at the end of the Gig.
Damn , This brings back so many great memories from 1975 . I brought the lp Tidal Wave and enjoyed it with my other had to sax players like Grover and John klemmer and several other fusion bands that ruled.
Just that rift.......says it all.....Ronnie Laws is a genius....I grew up in the late 70s on his music and loved every moment of it.....Flame was one of his best albums
Fantastic. Thanks for reacquainting me again to Ronnie Laws and his band. This was and still is one of my favorite recordings. I'm going check through my records/CD's. and listen to some of his old recording. If you have anything new pass it along.
