Rick, I have been trying to paint in watercolors for years. I have been binge watching your beginner lessons all afternoon. Thank you for the explanations of the very basic watercolor techniques and help with compositions. I really want to create something of my own, but find I watch instruction that leads me to copy another artist’s painting. I realized in lesson 18 of your beginner lesson, the wash you are working on doesn’t need to be sopping but still wet. Thank for the entire series, I’ll be watching again.
Your instruction is SUPBERB. Have viewed a lot of tutorials but none compare to these. You are so thorough. Thank you for sharing this invaluable information.
Most of these tips are good for intermediate watercolor artists. We try to do paintings ... takes awhile. Most often stumble on th problems you a talking about . His series is great. Thank you for your time and talent!
I agree with everyone else - thank you for teaching so well and for being so respectful while teaching but also for being so thoughtful to our watercolor painting needs. Water control is, indeed, the most important skill and I look forward to future videos.
This is an awesome series!!! Can’t wait for all of the parts - the balance of water/paint/paper is the key to watercolors. As a novice I struggle in achieving this balance. Thank you so very much Rick for putting this together!!!!
I really can’t express how glad that I feel to have found your channel! You are a great teacher! I also appreciate your accessibility. Very kind! I think that I am going to start my watercolor journey over by watching your videos and trying the techniques that you give us as you build up our knowledge. You really are exactly what I was hoping for in a watercolor teacher... I wish you were in Colorado!
So glad I found your channel as I start my journey with watercolors! Your tutorials are so informative and well done. And speak to subjects other gloss over. Thank you for doing these. Look forward to watching this series and practicing some the exercises you show.
Thank you for making this series Rick, I'm trying to teach myself and I find your knowledge and tutorials invaluable. This series will really help me. Thank you.
Hi Rick, it’s Julie :) Just a note of gratitude to you for all the effort and hugely useful info you provide in every single video. I have just grown one hundred fold as a beginner, not only in technique and foundations of this medium, but also in the joy it brings me to paint. I will forever be grateful for your part in my journey 💦 🎨
This is such good info Rick. Thank you for producing this. Wondering if you might consider making a vid showing how you wet your paint in the palette - the consistency/wetness of your puddles, etc. and how that relates to painting on wet or damp paper. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for this tutorial. I've always been frustrated with either getting too much water, or too little, and could never get the right consistency of the paint. Your video has helped me to understand this. What is 'transparent water colour' and how is it different from other water colour paints?
I discuss my views of transparent watercolor in my beginning watercolor tip 6. Here is the link to this short video : th-cam.com/video/ymw4Ahx7ACg/w-d-xo.html
I really wish you could make one long video. You tube almost makes it impossible to find different parts of your tutorials as described here at the end of this video. I can't find videos you refer to. If it was 1 long video, I could watch straight through. Stop and start and know so have absorbed all you wished to convey.
It can be confusing. The best way to browse and find my videos is from my TH-cam Home page. I have over 130 videos. They area arranged by playlist and by release date. I did a short video to help people navigate my videos. Here is the link to that video. th-cam.com/video/ugtKxk1aBKQ/w-d-xo.html
When I refer to a fully loaded brush, I've normally dipped it into a puddle of paint large enough and fluid enough that the brush absorbs enough of the mixture to fill it to capacity. If you tried to add more paint to it, it would drip off.

I have trouble with what angle your paper it for the various series.
I paint at about a 15 to 20 degree angle. My board is propped up 2 - 3 inches.
As a beginner, I am not confident that my definition of a fully loaded brush would be the same as yours. How would you define it?
When I refer to a fully loaded brush, I've normally dipped it into a puddle of paint large enough and fluid enough that the brush absorbs enough of the mixture to fill it to capacity. If you tried to add more paint to it, it would drip off.
Thank you Rick!
