    Use small pieces of hard cardboard or foamboard between the mirror & the frame nails. It will eliminate the risk of the nail cracking the glass/mirror & act like a cushion that stops the mirror from rattling. We do that all the time at our framing business.

    The proper term for the "puck" is a "base sabot." It is a one piece base which supports and centers the projectile.
    Strong work! I'm looking forward to seeing you fire the cannon.

    Great tip about the router collet. Ha, Ha, just bought the same point framing gun after just completing three frames, and the 'Promise' of more work to come. At least it is not an expensive tool, so consider it like an extra Christmas gift. Happy and productive New Tear Jay, to you and the family.

    Regarding what was engraved on the mirror: One of my mother's favorite aphorisims was, "The greatest gift a man can give his children is to love their mother." My father gave me that gift and I've passed it on to my own children.

    You are the first you tuber I have ever heard what I think every time I have to tighten or loosen a router nut. I hate those buttons. I get it if they made something that did not require holding down a stop, some bozo would hurt themself by not disengaging the catch. I bet I could pull that stunt too.

    Happy new year, i have been watching since the days you were in the apartment shop.
    My parents previously ran a fram shop and they covered the back of the frames with a layer of kraft paper. So even if someone did turn it over they would not see the gap. That process also used another specalty tool that put down a very thin layer of double stick tape.

    I was all excited when I saw you used the Logan Point Driver ! I bought the exact same tool probably 15 years ago when I was doing some picture framing and thought I had to have one. Probably used it 2 times...... Lol

    • @rogerlove7588
      @rogerlove7588 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on how many picture (and mirrors and…) one frames. I’ve probably used my point driver for more than a hundred frames over the past decade. It’s made assembling them so much easier. One of the better ‘investments’ I’ve made. A Logan driver and a package of more points than you’ll ever need is less than a hundred bucks.

    The mirror came out looking great...from our perspective. I'm not a fan of saw-tooth hangers. I take my CNC and put a horizontal key-hole slot in my frames. It allows it to sit flat against the wall.

    • @JayBates
      @JayBates  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do horizontal key-hole slots too. Probably 95% of the time. For this piece I wanted a shadow line around it. I added clear rubber-ish bumpers to the bottom back of the frame to match the sawtooth thickness to get an even reveal all the way around. I like it.

    • @JayBates
      @JayBates  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The spindle on mine is continuous threads. No spot for a second wrench. There's a nut buried below the surface but there's no way I can get a wrench to fit between it and the recess it sits in. Do you have a specialty wrench to get down there? My Bosch Colt and Milwaukee both have a flat ground on the spindle threads for a second wrench. This DeWalt doesn't.

    • @bloho_design
      @bloho_design 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooh I’m sorry I must have mis-identified it as the same. I have paused the video at 2:19 and see what you are saying about the threads going all the way down. Mine is a dewalt 618 2.25hp and the thread doesn’t go all the way down, there are both flats for a wrench and a hole for the (now missing) button. Sorry for not double checking before commenting!

    Very cool mirror project! I've been toying with making a custom mirror frame for awhile, and now I'm more confident it's simple. Thanks for leading the way. The frame feels a bit too thick - the thin, script text and the chunky border feels out of balance.
