    I am one of those Americans who turned against Israel in this affair. I am also former Marine Corps. infantry. Before the Israel-Hamas War, my understanding of the conflict there was pretty lackluster. I'm sure many others felt the same. Now, after intense research alongside the happenings of the Israel-Hamas War, there is no country I despise more on this earth than the State of Israel and no military I despise more than the IDF.

    Even if Ukrainian claims of recruiting 5.000 men per day are true, these men are not volunteers but taken by force from their homes, basements or from the street. When being sent to the frontline, they will rush to surrender at first opportunity that appears, instead of being killed for a cause they don’t want to fight for.

    No, the police convoy for Assange is completely logical. The British elites feel their near-total powerlessness and are compensating by puffing themselves up, equivalent to the chest-first swagger of a playground bully, in an effort to intimidate not just Assange but other journalists doing what journalists should do in a liberal democracy. It's a sign of profound insecurity, weakness, and panic.

    Finally, after 28 months of two nuclear powers being on the brink of going to war, the US SecDef does the right thing and talk to his counterpart. We've had close encounters with nuclear annihilation in the past that were held in check because adults on both sides have seen fit to maintain contact with their "enemies". I've never witnessed such childish behavior as I've seen on the part of senior military officials from my country that would put everybody at risk of death.

      This is a Russian violation of Article 58 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.

      What is horrific is that Russia allowed civilians to sun bathe 5 Km from the airbase in an active war zone.

      @@andrew300169 None of that is really true. The Moscow exchange no longer trades against the USD & Euro. Their exchange rate benchmark is the Yuan, against which the Ruble is quite stable. Russia-China trade has increased to a USD equivalent of over $240 billion.
      Gazprom took a hit in 2022 due to losing 55% of their European gas sales, but has already replaced much of those sales with supply to other regions.
      And China just signed a whole stack of new trade & co-operation agreements with Russia, greeting Putin & his government ministers with the full limo, red carpet and brass band treatment (vs Yellen & Blinken who just got a taxi and a minder). Xi referred to Putin as "His dear friend" and they even hugged farewell (rare for the stoic Chinese).

    Thank God that Julian Assange has finally been freed. This is a crime that he was held this long. I believe that he is due extensive damages by the British government that he was held illegally for so long and for the cruelty of his treatment. The Australian government and the UN are all implicated in these crimes for their lack of help on his behalf. I have to think that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has contributed as it has become an embarrassment to be holding a journalist in prison in such brutal conditions while trying to paint Putin as some kind of evil criminal.

    Ukraine is reportedly losing an average of 1200 men or so per day to death or wounding. That's an awful lot of support that Ukraine will be paying out.
    $68,800 to be paid to families of deceased soldiers, $41,300 to be given to the injured. That works out to be $60M a day, unless Ukraine finds a way of weaseling out of paying.

    It is entirely logical to take the plea bargain as once in Australia Julian can flip the plea bargain in court as it occurred under extreme coercion and sue the US and especially the UK Government. Never forget the majority of Russian casualties are wounded and the majority of Ukrainian casualties are dead.
