I grew up in newfoundland as a kid not far from Bonavista, we would see these dories all the time. Now you don't see them very much anymore when you visit the island. They didn't have to use them for decades and decades, they used them with the old sailboats that were later converted to steamboats. On the Grand banks off the coast of newfoundland east southern shores. My grand father and father and my wo older brothers were fishermen.

How long. (Bottom) and (Top) and wide is this boat? Do you have plans for this size of boat?

Is the flat bottom dory still very good when in choppy seas?

The banks dory historically is known as pretty good in choppy water and swell. The bottom is flat but it’s bottom board is quite narrow, so it sits below the water and the sharp entry line of bow cuts through chop instead of pounding like a wide flat skiff. Also a working dory would end up with a few hundred pounds of fish that would act as ballast and make the boat more stable

Great boat. I'm looking at one now from "The Dory Shop". What size is this one? I'm looking at the 11' on the bottom, this one looks a bit larger and more to my needs.

Imagine being 200 miles out at sea in a fishing schooner. Two men are put in a dory and lowered into the water. Then, they row away leaving the schooner out of sight. Now the men must fill the dory with cod fish. On the way back, fog rolls in or a storm blows in or the schooner has drifted. Many men were lost at sea on the Grand Banks. Those were the days of wooden ships and iron men.

It’s a shame that the dialogue is muddled, there should be captions. I’m sure that was very interesting and I am so sorry I could not understand it, still I Learned a lot watching the pictures (🙂 video portion).
