I really don't understand the one handed closing issue, everyone is complaining about it, but I just use my leg to close my cold steels. I do love my recon one, but this handle is definitely better designed for hard use, and I also think it's technically stronger.
Almost every Cold Steel can be closed one-handed. The one-handed closing thing isn't a huge deal, but it's big enough to where I'm not going to choose this knife over a different Cold Steel knife.
Really good video man. I enjoyed the breakdown of it, especially since it's such a common problem with Cold Steel models. Your pain was my entertainment, and I thank you for it.
I really think they should've switched to Elmax from XHP instead of to S35vn. It's really tough and better edge retention (also don't try and tell me it's too expensive). They could have had an interesting edge instead of the sea of S35/S30 that we have. But hey that's just my opinion.
Picked up a used Bush Ranger in perfect condition. And now I know why. I was thinking of rounding the nub beyond the index finger indentation to improve the ergonomics all around. The BIG however is that that nub prevents a major accidental one-handed cut when closing. As is, the point is hard to use. The shape makes it very good at slicing. Definitely going to have to loosen that pocket clip; it's so tight that it will destroy your pocket.
I was brought up using two hand closer knives and they are just as fun and in most cases more sturdy than a flipper, as a collector folks have been spoiled and us users well we're just fine with two handers
@@Jimislash all one hand opening really amounts to is figet factor and as a user figet factor comes second to everything else, remember knives are tools not toys!

I close all my coldsteel folders with two hands. This hunter ranger is worthy of ownership and most off all...Put It To Work! Get out, bugout and hit the wilderness....
I understand the point about the closing but I sincerely think it's the point of view of somebody who's main use is... playing, I guess. The bush ranger is a user, never had such an awesome bushcraft folder. In real life use, this is far superior to any other knife you displayed bc of comfort.,. Not a toy, but a tool.
You guessed wrong, sincerely. I don't like the way it closes. I have a lot of users that I enjoy using much more. No need to be condescending, as if you discovered the true uses for knives. It is not far superior in "real life use" to the 4-Max or the Recon 1. You may like it more, but there's no way to demonstrate the Bush Ranger's superiority.
@@Jimislash was just a guess, sorry mate... But it is a good knife, and the closing problem isn't really an issue in the woods. As for superiority, i meant the handle design is indeed much more comfortable for longer cutting session, that's all. But sorry again, I didn't mean to offend you nor being condescending, it's just that it felt weird stumbeling upon a video about one of my favorite tools, that I would rely my life upon, mainly speaking about how a fidget factor.
@@marvinberwart You can't beat the lock. The steel is great. Like most knives, it's about preference. In fact, I have meant to give it another look. It's been 3 1/2 years. It just slips my mind, most of the time.
Idk i still might get the bush ranger lite its a lot cheaper but its 8cr or maybe aus10. I dont close any of my cold steels like that because of how they close
Have mine for a month barely use it until today and still disappoint. I wish this has a wider blade n handle like the 4max.the lock is smooth but tighten it bcuz it's too smooth like butter almost chop the finger off .but amazing steel i shouldn't get the recon 1 with s35vn instead. P.s. I feel your pain too Bro.
I have been interested in knives for as long as I can remember. When I was five, my dad promised me a hunting knife he had, when I turned 15. I'm still waiting. :) Then, when I was in high school, my brother got this buddy of ours to trade his really cool Rambo knife for a spool of fishing line. Our friend was upset for some time, after that. :)
Alright Mr Jimislash, I would love to see a comparison review video on the Cold Steel SR1, AD10, Bush Ranger, and Ultimate Hunter and any other bushcrafty style knives from Cold Steel or other manufacturers that you consider strong and tanky, but still very comfortable and usable in hand. Maybe cutting tests, sharpness, edge retention, blade steels, strength and so on. I really look forward to seeing your video. Top banana dude. Cheers
I really dig most of the cold steel folders but not this one:/ looks awkward. I have a lawman and I really like closing it one handed especially in front non-knife folks. They think it's like a butterfly knife or something.
Now I understand the meaning of "meh". Thanks JS. I am sure that some will be fine with this knife. That is just fine. Lynn and company do a great job overall, imo, but cannot be expected to hit a homer with all of their designs. BTW, are you gonna be Ok? Will stealthy black helicopters be sent to the Balay Family Compound, with several burly types donned in black, rushing in to said compound to have a "little chat" with you? Maybe I watch too many movies.
I think another problem with this one for me is the same as the sr1, because the lite is so good and well executed I see no need to buy the high end version. Also you don't have this closing issue with the lite in my experience.
Haahahhahahhah. Thats weird. It bit me once at the begining then i just moved my finger more towards the front of the finger choil and hasnt bit me again. Left of right handed lol. I love this little knife im happy with it . Nd the lock on mine is rele smooth 😃.
I was wandering, are there any other cs knives you don't like? And do you own all knives cs ever made? I like the knives from cs a lot, and currently have 8 in my collection. Nr 9 wil arrive soon, I ordered myself a 4max scout for xmas
You must be very young. I can open and close every one of these knives blindfolded with one hand and no problem at all. You must have received a lemon.

It’s not the best fidget model, but as far as performance it really excels. The ergonomics for hard cutting are really good.
Thanks for the video! Good looking Espada!
This makes me realize I usually two hand my Cold Steels and it's pretty second nature. ...except the AD-15. That thing is one handed fun ;)
Really good video man. I enjoyed the breakdown of it, especially since it's such a common problem with Cold Steel models. Your pain was my entertainment, and I thank you for it.
Lol! It's the least I can do. :)
Do-do brown. lol. Nice selection of knives, sweet !. Scary closing. Thanks. Tony

That would've been awesome.
Jimislash Love the review by the way!
Oh man Elmax would have been awesome
Peter Richards I'm not even the hugest elmax fan but it truly seems like it would've been a good pr and financial decision for Cold steel.
Herb Toker I’ve only ever had one knife in elmax and I have put it through the ringer and it is still going strong atleast my top 3 blade steels
I dont have any experience with the Bush Ranger but both my Pro Lites have pretty stiff locks!!
They are stiff, as well, but this thing is a different kind of frustrating.
Wow.....that would be frustrating!!!
Dude I have one of these and I love it. Thanks for the review. Cheers

I dyed my tan one. :)
Thanks for video. This design hasn't connected with me as some of the other larger CS blades (4 max and SR1). Also...it's more of a clip point?!?
Yeah, it's nowhere near the SR1, except in price.
I had mentioned the lock stiffness in my review also, but I made a follow up video because it got much better with minimal use.

Hey Jim CTS XHP or S35vn which steel that you preferred and why???
I like XHP a little better. It holds a sharper edge, longer. But it's close.
Jimislash wow really just wondering which is the difference hmm??? Thanks for question
So basically CTS XHP has better edge and s35vn is tougher .also CTS XHP is cheaper bcuz is still a newer steel made a while ago.
I didn't know that XHP was cheaper. Good info.
