  • Artificial intelligence will likely remake the workplace. A recent analysis from Goldman Sachs looked at the global impact, and found that AI could replace 300 million full-time jobs. Futurist Martin Ford joined CBS News to discuss the jobs he believes AI likely won't take, and what you can do if you're concerned your job may be replaced.

Some people are quick to respond with "trade jobs".. But not everyone can do trade jobs, and if trade jobs are all that remain, what happens when everyone is trying to get those jobs? What happens to the value of those jobs? Who would hire a plumber at top rates, when everyone has one in their family, or one as a neighbor? Those once well-paying jobs, could devalue to the point of not earning enough to survive on, thanks to the huge increase in competition, and we'll be right back here again.

I think what the world governments need to do is to allocate a basic salary for all the citizens or households that can be sufficient for surviving a good life , and let the AI do most ( not all ) jobs that people are doing to earn that salary. That is the most ideal way that we can solve all the productivity and surviving problems. And the people will have more room to improve their skills and abilities in areas where they really enjoy rather than have to work to survive. ( People who have those special abilities of course will earn more money accordingly) Another benefit of this for the governments is that it would prevent the anarchy and creates more cooperative citizens)

Here is what they aren't considering.
First, they are saying people based jobs such as sales won't be affected. But, what happens when a typical sales job has 1000 new applicants competing for those jobs, all having tech backgrounds. Especially if the products/services being sold has a tech component which almost all would have. There is going to be a ton of new competition for those jobs. So, creative people based jobs aren't safe.
Also, what happens when one or a few employees realize they can fire their company and essentially do the same thing. With AI they can provide the same product/service as the company did with just a few people. Maybe even one person. It could be the companies are the ones getting fired, not always the employee.
Bottom line, learn AI. Become a domain expert that uses ai. In the short term that is where the value will be. So, if you write code, get good at your technology stack. And then get good using ai. Combine the two. Network and see what opportunities arise as things change. It's going to be a new world, hopefully for the better.

Regarding the effect of AI to the Tech & IT Industry; I think the biggest impact will be remote tech interview tasks. Employers would want to give interviewees a special application where they can do their tests/tasks. I still don’t think AI will replace junior developers; It will reduce the time spent on training them. It will also make startups and businesses more productive and there will be a significant increase in applications and softwares deployed on cloud services. The businesses that will survive are the ones that are innovative, solve real problems and care more for their customers. Regarding the educational sector, certifications and work experience will become more relevant because employers may not trust self taught individuals who are new to the industry.

Having a revolution would basically be the only way to go back to normal if AI truly did take over every job.
People who believe there'd be some universal basic income if AI took over are kinda stupid. The reason AI is a threat to our jobs is because a select group of humans (rich CEOs) don't value human work. Even with the "inefficient" human labor of the last hundred years, rich people have managed to make billions of dollars exploiting that "inefficient" work. They basically only want AI because they don't believe other humans should be able to feed themselves.
