Thanks for showing off the new rides!
Absolutely, I have quickly become a huge fan of the Rift Zone series. Like you say they are “Made For Fun” and they deliver.

@@marin_bikes you guys have sweet bikes!
@@Jacob99174 Thanks Tim!
@@marin_bikes just got the rift zone 2 could not be happier!
The RZ XR looks completely awsome! A enduroish trail bomber!
thanks to the algorithms i found your channel. what a great review to an amazing brand and bike. got my first marin nail trail back in 1996 and paid it with my first earned money myself. since that day i’m in love with biking. unfortunately my bike was stolen years back and i got myself a kona. since my bike shop got a marin rift for rent, i’m renting like crazy. wanna get myself a new bike next year and the rift is very high on my wishlist. hope the price is getting better for us in europe. your review is amazing and informative. that said, i wanna support a bit more and subscribed - greetings from austria 👊🏼
Thank you so much. I also had a Kona they make awesome bikes too. The Rifty is better than I expected. Such a solid bike.
amazing way to compare and display geometry btw
Thanks 😊
Not a fan of lengthening the chain stays but everything else looks pretty good. I too am rocking a Rifty 1 with an upgraded thru axle, a MegNeg equiped Rockshox Deluxe (from a Rifty 2), a Dropper and better tires. Love it to death.
What does the MegNeg do to the ride quality. Mine is still in the box?
I have the RZ 1 as well. What tires are you running on it
I love that blue and orange paint job. Was there any updates to the carbon models?
Not yet hopefully soon
Looking to get a 2022, I am between M and L. What are the pros and cons of either way?
Looking at a 2023 Rift Zone 2, but also have the option of a new 2022 Rift Zone 3 for a little less. What would you suggest?
Snag up that 2022 RZ 3.
@@RunBikeMike Thanks for the reply! Now a riding buddy is trying to steer me to a Canyon Neuron 5. Seems like a great bike for the price. Any input on that one?
I haven’t looked at that one. I know they make great bikes.
@@RunBikeMike heya, does that still apply in 2024? I'm looking at a 2023 rift zone 2 or a 2022 RZ 3 for about $200 more.
Is the 3 really that much better?
Yes for sure 👍🏻
the rear upper linkage seems different also. the seat tube seems to angle at a lower point also, looks to be able to clear a longer dropper if needed. that's a nice update to me, my 1st gen rift zone could barely clear 150mm and I prefer a 170.
Yep they worked on the linkage and the stand over height is lower. However the seat tube length is the same so 170mm is the max dropper it seem like.
im trying to get a 2023 27.5 rift zone.a little tougher being in alasja. im used to being overbiked on my trails at 160mm rear travel. looking forward to seeing if this can handle my mostly groomed flow trails with the occasional small huck. i want the aluminum one. i like the price. not afraid to toss it around. Whats the best suspension money can buy for this thing? the ohlins looks good.
They are awesome bikes. As for what’s the best suspension. That is up for debate. Each brand offers a system that will work perfectly for this bike. But it comes down to personal preference and really how much you want to spend. Ohlins offers some really nice options for sure.
I’m saving for a full suspension29. I’m between the Rift Zone 3 and the Polygon Siskiu T8.
But both bikes are very nice you really can’t go wrong. But I am now a huge fan of the Rift Zone.
@@RunBikeMike Hah I understand you. I have three Marins and like them a lot.
I don't understand why the lower end model has a QR rear axle. Surely it's cheaper to not have two types of rear triangle (QR and through axle)?
Same rear triangle on all three bikes. The 1 has an adapter that can be removed so you can use a thru axle. Checkout my shorts playlist. I have a short showing how it works. It is actually pretty cool.
@@RunBikeMike Ah ok that's interesting. Maybe it's to get around having to spec a Microspline rear cassette? Still it's an expensive upgrade for the person buying the bike.
I bet it cheaper for them so they can sell it at a much lower price than the 2. Not having a dropper, non thru axle wheel and also a 11 speed which takes the HG hub and is more than likely cheaper than micro spline hub. And yeah new wheels or a hub that takes a thru axle is definitely not a cheap upgrade.
I can get a new 2022 rifty 2 out the door for $1700 or a 2023 r2 for 2400. It seems like as a returning rider whos not ridden for 30 years the money on the new one wouldnt be noticed.
Does the Rift Zone 1 have the sram udh hanger? I know the 2 and xr do
Yes it has it has a UDH but it is one made for a QR. so if you go thru axle you have to get a new one.
If I in theory wanted to replace the derailleur hanger but the hub is still qr could i buy a normal udh and just use the stock qr adapter? Also thank you for the previous response.
I believe you need to buy a hanger that is specifically for QR. I think Marin sells them on their site.
@@RunBikeMikeok thank you! Just wondering cause i want to buy a few spare derailleur hangers
Do you think they would offer a mullet from factory? Just swapping the front fork and wheel for the 29er on to the 27.5?
I don’t think they will. I am interested in if they tried that when they were in development. It is cool to see them offer both 27.5 and 29 but the mullet is missing for sure.
I am trying to think what brands other than Santa Cruz offer a mullet stock. I don’t think Trek offers that anymore. Do you know of other brands?
@@RunBikeMike have NO idea. I purchased a Ledge X1 last year (Mongoose) and have just recently finally was able to get some extra funds and time to put on a 29er fork and wheel
...but the brake calipers weren't a direct swap... doh! So now I gotta throw more money into this project bike...and am wondering if there is a better way of cost/reward than what I'm doing.... I've not ridden a mullet ...but in concept it seems to be a good thing.
@@mrupholsteryman oh no on the brakes. Does it just need an adapter? I also haven’t ridden a mullet but I am definitely interested in trying one out.
@@RunBikeMikeI don't know if they make an adapter or not... haven't had the opportunity to check further into it... at the point I realized that the bolts were not only a different distance apart...but 90 degrees off from each other.... my wife showed up from work and my time spent with bike was put on hold... haha!
@@RunBikeMike I'm curious about your opinion on the Giordano as I was looking into that bike as well ....and are there competent hard tails out of the box where you could spend the same amount of money and have a decent rode from the get go without the need for upgrades?
I've been on a 26 Specialized Rockhopper from early 90's and am used to the lighter smaller wheels...but after my headtube cracked and people are telling me to give up the 26er or I'll be donating a lot of money to dental surgeons and such...my old memory of how much a bike cost compared to now has given me some realization that I now have achieved "old status" cuz "when I was a kid......" haha!
Do you know that when it is available to buy marin rift zone jr 2023? I just want to buy marin rift zone jr 2022 but I will wait for 2023 instead. Thanks
I hope soon. The buy now button on their site isn’t working. But I am sure in a few weeks BikesOnline will have them.
I'm 5'10.9
Which size for me?
You are in a hard spot. I would think a medium depending on your inseam. If 32 or less go medium. Also if you like a smaller bike feel. But if you like a larger bike feel and have a inseam of 32 or higher go large. I am 5’11” and ride the large. Make sure to checkout out my full review on the bike in my playlist called Marin Bikes
@@RunBikeMike
My inseam 31.89
I'm worried if size M is suitable for me?
The purpose I use it is to cycle long onroad and a little time offroad
I used to run the xcaliber 8 trek, it's an XC bike.
In terms of parameters, Reach 430 - 350 is suitable for me (height * 2.5)
size M riftzone 2023 size M has a Reach of 460.
Size L Reach is 480mm, it's over ?
The large is more around 485. But the bike will feel very different than the xcaliber does. Much more slack. If you can I would find a bike similar in a brand carried locally and see how it feels.
@@RunBikeMike more slack?
You mean when sitting on riftzone, will it shrink?
I think because the rear fork is hanging down, right?
The geo is slack. Meaning the fork sticks out more. 65.5 degrees giving it mire stability on down hills
They should include the extra rubber grommets to add a dropper
I know I got a few with my 2022 model and now that they changed how the cable routing works the 2023 won’t use as many if any at all
No no no.
Why why why 😀
