I have met black folks who have been conditioned through their childhood to live the stereotype of black folks as second class citizens and poor. EVERYONE needs to be educated that we all are Americans. This is a powerful talk!

We should never forget. There are layers and layers of pain, injustice, cruelty, trauma, and then so much to unravel and unpack. This is something you never get over. It stays with you for generations. It will take a very long time to heal. Remembering can be the leveller that's needed to stand firm and strong in yourself. Work to forgive, but never forget. Sometimes, real truth and real lessons come after deep and real pain.
Thank you Will Smith and your beautiful children for this table talk I have a granddaughter and we live in a luxury high-rise in Manhattan so she doesn’t have too many black friends if she has one and I always have to remind her you’re a little black girl she’s 15 now I’m raising her And I’m taking her to see this movie. I have tears in my eyes while I’m speaking because she has no idea where we come from or who we are no matter how hard I try to teach her my grandma and my great grandma they come from those days they didn’t have golden years, they didn’t have an abundant life. Why do you tell her she is a little black girl????? Why don't you tell her she is amazing, wonderful, a joy, a treasure?? You seem to add a negative that she is black??? Morgan Freeman speaks the best...don't see white or black...see a person and who they are.
@@greentree730 no I have to remind her who she is trust me there’s a lot of prejudice and racism over here too and I have to let her know that she’s not one of them because she’s not she is a human being. She knows that and sometimes she’s not always treated and welcomed the way I welcome her friends to my house so she do need to know where she comes from who she is. She needs to know about her blackness, I’m not making it seem like she’s a little black girl cause that’s exactly what she is a young black teenager. It’s not in a negative way a very positive way she come from Black kings and queens. I don’t even know a lot of stuff family tree I don’t know too much because too much wasn’t told to me, and thank you for your comment

This movie is one of the best movies I have every seen! And the best acting I have ever seen in any character. And I'm a HUGE cinephile. The opening scene when he tore the hinges off the door as they grabbed him said so much. It showed that this character is extremely strong, extremely passionate, extremely loved and extremely determined. He kept that same energy the whole movie. It was like Will was out of his body. He wanted to make sure we knew who that Hatian hero was beyond that picture. Nobody on this planet can convey his spirit and love the way Will did. Emancipation is forever etched in my psyche and in my spirit. And for that I will always be thankful.
Whenever I hear someone say 'slavery was a long time ago. That was then!', I cringe. That dismissal of many many peoples' suffering makes me sad, yet livid at the same time. History should be learned from, so the atrocities will not be repeated.
No its not. Its the past. Stop living in the past. Focus on the now. Most of yall not doing nothing about it anyways. Just talking. No action. My ancestors were slaves also. Get over it. You cant change the past. Focus on now and create the future. Thats why no one advancing. Yall stuck. Move on
The past informs the present and future. The mentality of dismissiveness is the same mentality that justifies slavery. The lack of compassion, the inability to understand that each person is unique and deals with things differently.
I am just floored by this! Every person who plans to go to the polls this year should be mandated to see this before they go! Thank you to everyone who stepped up to the plate to make this happen, and kudos to Will and The Red Table!
When he showed and explained the chain around the neck scene, all I can say is straight tears and hurt over here. Our people really experienced this and for a moment, so did Will.
Yes, I couldnt stop the tears from falling either ( _despite the fact that I am Greek_ ), and we Greeks are all too familiar when it comes to _slavery._ Greeks were _enslaved_ by the Ottoman Empire ( _Turkey_ ) for 400 years, all the way up until our LIBERATION in 1928. The _trauma_ is still "fresh" for us, and what makes it even worse is that the Turkish Govt. ( _and its leaders, as well as their people_ ) REFUSE to not only _acknowledge_ this, but they moreover refuse to ACCEPT the pure INHUMANE ATROCITIES they committed against us. When _they_ INVADED us, they would take all of the YOUNG BOYS ( _below the age of 18_ ), round them up in every town's "square" and in front of their Mothers, they would CUT OFF their _male genitalia_ and their _tongues._ When it came to the _women_ --- they RAPED every "female" as young as 4 years old. They changed our names by adding a _suffix_ of THEIR surnames to our surnames, so that others knew WHO our "Master" was. They basically tried to _eradicate_ us off the face of the earth ( _and we were a very small nation of under 6 million at the time I believe, since we are only 10 million presently!_ ), so yea -- we KNOW and we IDENTIFY w/ what the White Pilgrims ( _Invaders_ ) did to the Indigenous people of America ( _they literally murdered 60 SIXTY MILLION Native Indians all across America when they landed there! History cannot be erased -- no matter how hard they try!_ ), and once they got rid of the Indigenous peoples, they then brought African people there AGAINST their will, and not only USED them as something far worse than "animals" --- but TORTURED, RAPED, and KILLED them as if they were "animals". 😔 America will never be "respected" as a Nation, unless they do RIGHT and pay REPARATIONS to the African peoples they KIDNAPPED, ENSLAVED, BRUTALIZED + MURDERED in cold blood! Here in Greece, we have a vast African _diaspora_ and the people of Africa are FREE to live as everyone else does here; a person of _color_ doesnt fear the police here, in fact : its quite the opposite --- its the police who FEAR the PEOPLE! And here is an interesting fact: Not ONE person of African descent ( _whether they are citizens of this country or not_ ) has EVER committed a _crime_ nor has ever been arrested here. NEVER. EVER. The vid ( below) follows around my good friend Kevin who is from Ghana, Africa. His parents immigrated here nearly 40 years ago, and Kevin was born here and has grown up here all his life; he speaks Greek BETTER than most Greeks! And as you will assess from the vid, he is KING here. He lives as a Greek Citizen and is RESPECTED + LOVED by everyone he encounters. He decided to become a "rapper" and the funny thing is: he "raps" in Greek and he manages to combine his African heritage along w/ Greek history, and everyone LOVES him, because he REPRESENTS us as a people and tells our history and the history of Africa in his songs. He is proud to be an African Greek, and we are proud of him as well, as a Nation, and as a people. I’m from Texas. My parents ended up sending us to a pw school district and the things I went through were never on the scale of slavery but it scarred me. I learned so much about our people on my own because I was singled out to defend my whole race, is what it felt like, in classrooms where I was literally the only black student. So while the world smiled about Obama I went through hell. The whole class starring at me and putting bets of a week or even two days on his life astonished me. Til this day they’ll pretend that nothing could be the matter. When in fact it was “all good” because I had no choice in my mind. I said that to say the sheer anger and rage in my heart went away when Will said “we fought to be here and our place here”. It gave me a perspective. A lot of these things my family doesn’t even know. My black friends don’t know and even they say I’m taking it too far when they try to say I’m white. I know much more than the average person about what we’ve been through and are going through. I’m not saying that I hate white people I don’t. I’m a child of God and so is everybody else in my mind and heart. I’m just passionate about the truth and being made to be quiet about things I can clearly see happening is frustrating. Can’t wait to see this movie

When me and my son was in a homeless shelter because I had lost everything when my dad died, I mean I was just not here I was in deep Mourning, so thankfully t h i s shelter for families took me and my son in all we have to do was go through counseling also budgeting classes because they think that you you know how to budget when you get evicted and that was absolutely not the case in my case.... when my dad died I just could not function but anyway the counseling parts help me out tremendously and they had computer room where we put a resume on the floppy disk and showed us how to do all of that but I already know how to do that too but you know when you tell somebody it tickles me when they trying to find you a job what they think you should do oh you can do you get more money when you do this no darling I'm a cake decorator I'm a baker I'm not a chef😂 so anyway one of the other things we had to do we had to do Monday nights in these meetings which consists of movies about forgiveness and what are the movies I think the name of it was amazing grace I didn't get the premise of the movie I didn't care about the movie all I saw is these white people who own this place think that it's a narrative for us to see this movie about slavery and how this one slave I think forgave his master or something I don't know I just saw the shackles and it drove me crazy!!!! And I walked out of the movie in the president or whoever she was of the shelter place was in her office and they sent me to her office like I was sent to the principal's office I'm a grown woman😂 and she asked me are you okay and I'm like no I'm not, now this is a christian-based shelter and she said one of the requirements is to stay for the Monday night classes I'm like yeah but you watching a movie that is offensive to me and she said what is the official about it I said it's about slavery she's like okay..... and I looked at her I chuckled I said to her you will never understand and she said what do you mean I said you're not black, yes she was a white woman she could never understand and she said I don't understand what you mean because I'm white I'm like yes you are and she found that offensive I just started laughing and I'm like okay. And I said well can I leave now cuz I'm getting tired of the conversation right now she said sure, so I left and the next morning she saw me at the office and she came up to me and she said I got to apologize to you, she said I prayed about the situation she got some type of clarity she said you're right I can never walk in your shoes..... and at that moment I cried I mean boo-hooing because finally finally somebody heard me especially somebody of her stature actually listened and felt where I was coming from because I told her that movie represent to me everything that I hated white people about everything about white people I could not stand it like those shackles I was bound but when she said what she said the hate became less and then my heart began to open up because that one part she actually listened and understood.
@@DorkJellyBravo❤❤❤❤❤ that is exactly what I've been saying for years! But you got to understand now Jewish people can trim their nose is straighten their hair to be one of them and actually one of the actresses actually did that and she knows she's Jewish but they rather be one of them so they don't have to go through that again, but we is the people we can't change our color or our hair and I don't want to because I'm a warrior for my people especially people of God🎉
We hear about actors when they get so deep into their characters & the time they must spend after the production. But with our Black actors, it makes me wonder with a film such as this 😢 Will Smith must do extensive work to get out of character but we all go back in that space when we are confronted with people who are racist & say to ourselves “Here we go again!” This is a perpetual & ongoing unique level of “stress” experience shared among Black people. That we must choose how we handle such situations……

It hurts me so much that any of my ancestors had to deal with all their years being pure trauma. I wish love on them so much and it’s so sad that they didn’t get that and they had to watch their children endure the same.

Every time I remember Will from my youth in Fairmount park on Sundays at the plateau. I touched his ankles and tapped his sneakers when he was on top of that little shack they played the music from so I could ask him for a song I wanted to hear. He wasn't famous at all back then. This was before he had any songs for the masses. We were so young. I'm the same age as Will. To have him playing this very important role and articulate his experience and our communities perseverance is profound. Our generation were raised by the children/grandchildren of slaves. Its not as far reaching back as people try to paint. Anyway Will went from Fairmount Park to the Grammys to the big screen. He has had his own perseverance journey. And I smile at the memory of its beginnings on Sunday afternoons in the park for free with us Philly kids just having fun and enjoying our vibe. This video feels full circle.

@@IndieButterflyWarriorremember that it was a few horrible people in your genetic line. Your great great grandparents in Ireland and Nigeria were wonderful complex people
I'm also 50% Irish and it's taken some time for me to absorb that, since the story of my Irish ancestors holds pain, famine, ethnic cleansing and exploitation in the 'New World', which is not the same trauma as enslaved African people suffered, but it's still an epigenetic pain I feel. You get to identify however you wish, whatever helps you to feel whole. Best to you on this journey of inner exploration...

I once almost drowned in a deep pool thinking I was ready to try the big boys side of things. I remember thinking that if I submerge myself next to the wall, when I feel helpless, I will just reach for the wall and pull myself out of the water. With my eyes closed and that feeling of needing to breath was knocking, and I could feel at that point that I was just not swimming anywhere but I was too scared to open my eyes. After I finally gave up on trying to swim I try to reach for the wall I believed I am still next to, and, it was not there anymore, I thought I was safe, and now I knew I was not.

Neither did my mom. all three of them are gone to heaven. this needed to be told I needed to hear it and see it. Thank you so much Will I celebrate you and I appreciate you for this movie.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I’m her grandmother and I’m raising her the best that I can, but she needs to see, her history too and that she does not know they really don’t teach it in school a lot of things that we don’t know because so many of our family has passed on.

I agree and those who dismiss so easily cannot and will not face this truth or thier own!
No its not. Its the past. Stop living in the past. Focus on the now. Most of yall not doing nothing about it anyways. Just talking. No action. My ancestors were slaves also. Get over it. You cant change the past. Focus on now and create the future. Thats why no one advancing. Yall stuck. Move on
@@HiPHOPx87😒🤫🤬
The past informs the present and future. The mentality of dismissiveness is the same mentality that justifies slavery. The lack of compassion, the inability to understand that each person is unique and deals with things differently.
@rayz5173 you already informed. So why you dwelling in it?. Move on. You say that like you gonna find something new about slavery. Stop making excuses

Yes, I couldnt stop the tears from falling either ( _despite the fact that I am Greek_ ), and we Greeks are all too familiar when it comes to _slavery._
Greeks were _enslaved_ by the Ottoman Empire ( _Turkey_ ) for 400 years, all the way up until our LIBERATION in 1928.
When _they_ INVADED us, they would take all of the YOUNG BOYS ( _below the age of 18_ ), round them up in every town's "square" and in front of their Mothers, they would CUT OFF their _male genitalia_ and their _tongues._
When it came to the _women_ --- they RAPED every "female" as young as 4 years old.
America will never be "respected" as a Nation, unless they do RIGHT and pay REPARATIONS to the African peoples they KIDNAPPED, ENSLAVED, BRUTALIZED + MURDERED in cold blood!

Thank you for this message and truth ❤

It will ALWAYS be heartbreaking to see what our ancestors endured and fought for and through. I remain a proud Black human.

You know we're getting up there, especially if we can remember a certain song coming out 26 years ago lol. 1998, the 90s period seems like yesterday. The best era ever, just wished I would of realized it back then when I was a child lol.
@@sheilaatif6906 Yeah, I'm about to turn 40 next week lol... I wish we could go back!!!
@@american_cosmic... Oh so u about to be in the 40 club.... Time flies, because it seems like once I graduated highschool 20 year's ago, that's when everything started going by extremely fast. I miss my childhood a lot. Being a 90s kid was the best. My ninja turtles and power rangers day's lol. We need a time machine with the quickness lol...
😢😢very sad right now. This is what happened to Africa for many years, inside the continent of African, and continued into America. Thank you for doing this. Mr. Will
This movie shows we still leaving in the same time mental strength
EVERY Black/African American family MUST have a Red Table Talk♡
Absolutely not
I still to this day don’t understand how 1 race can look at another race as nothing and still do 😢
Entitled
We often look at our own race and see and feel nothing. Look at the level of violence in our communities. Many men look at women as prey and something to control and dominate. It's a demonic spirit.
What's worse is when a people still sees themselves as slaves!!
The God we serve is not the god they serve .
And even worse when a people still see themselves as superior. @wildonez3076
So happy to see he’s back! One of the best!!! Blessings to all 💜
I'm sorry, but watching this stuff almost puts hate inside of me. God help me! My grandfather experienced this kid of stuff. It still goes on today. We just don't have chains on our necks
We still do, just in different forms.
yup but they deep down wish they could still do this
Powerful.
When Peter was experiencing that gratitude in the swamp, from the outside, looking in just with your eyes of logic, is so hard to believe he could be feeling that. As it was happening though, waves and waves of cold chills were running all over my body. When you feel the energy, you just know. I am not sure if I will be able to watch the whole movie, but I will absolutely keep listening to people talk about it and sharing how it moved them.
I have loved you Will Smith it will take me getting my mind ready before I can watch this movie. You are my favorite Actor of all time. My favorite movie of yours is Enemy of the State. I can watch and rewatch that one. Blessings to you and your family.
“He wanted to drain the color out of the Confederacy” has to be one of the most profound statements I’ve ever heard. When you have power to change the visual narrative of a story and you take the approach this Director of Photography took, you must be commended. Bravo.
Red table talk without Jada is phenomenal! Love his relationship with his babies
I hope she doesn't get jealous and try to emasculate him again. That stuff is tough to watch so I can only imagine what his kids feel being exposed to it.
ya way better without Jada ... she gets on my nerves so bad!!!
@@LyrixNChill Stop being an incel. No woman can emasculate a man. If a man is that fragile, if he constantly has to be in a dominance, ego based energy, then that's on him. I don't see that dynamic in Will and Jada. She is a confident, powerful women who takes no shit, I'm like that too. But she respects Will and listens to him and they work through things in partnership.
@@down-to-earth-mystery-school Now I’m involuntarily celibate? I’m happily married, and the self serving mental gymnastics you put yourself through to validate your own ego through a celebrity is comical. “I’m just like Jada!” 🤣🤣🙄 hey, whatever makes you feel better about being a difficult, selfish person. Do you. Fool you.
wow, such great work. I'm just amazed. You have done much .. look forward to see what comes next ..
Will's Mom is blessing her son.
Graceful.
Thank you Will for doing this Red Table with your children. The part that emancipated me as a Christian of over 36 yrs, was when you shared how you became Peter in the scene where you as Will was pretty much consumed by Peter and couldn't get yourself back for a minute. I loved that so much. It illustrated to me as a Christian how that when I am walking out my life as a disciple of Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit should fully consume me to the point where Janel is no more! And stay that way. I would love to see you act out the role of Jesus Christ in a movie. I am watching Emancipation today. God Bless you all❤!!!
This is so wonderful Will along with your amazing children it touches my heart ❤still watching video now …still seeing the love to and through u all .. I cried at the truths the showing body head restraints broke me oh how they broke me .. I will forever stay grateful to the soldiers that went before us … Will I salute you for exposing your children to truth that are aware in spite of their privileges what a Good father
Love this. I learned so much. Thank you for the everything, and thanks for sharing your journey. It inspires millions.
I'm happy Jamie Foxx did Django.
I love Will but I feel that Jamie's looks, height, and voice suited Django perfectly.
I love them both and you are right. That part was made for Foxx
He nailed it
Jaden Smith's laugh is the craziest thing I've heard in my life but besides all that I very much enjoyed the video
This is so real. Thanks for sharing your and so many deep actors truth in these roles. Losing yourselves for some entertainment and others like me growth and knowledge. ❤
Willy is nothing in this world then sitting down on table and hearing your kids responds to you and let them bring out what they are thinking about everything. Love it and keep up.❤❤
They made some gorgeous children
Absolutely beautiful family
Wow, you really got my full attention. I really thought this was just gonna be a regular table talk but this is deep. Thank you so much for sharing. Can’t wait to watch this movie.
Thank you Smith family for sharing your time and educating us~
This is a touching story to tell. This movie was one of his greatest moments as an actor. I loved this movie. Will’s kids are so down to earth. He is the epitome of a great actor but most of all a wonderful father.
love this convo, very sincere and deep....
❤❤❤❤ can't wait! Cried during the whole interview. Seeing everyone together and how much work he put in. History is being made..this movie looks ..feels epic.
These "experiences" have remained embedded in our Soul for years. That's why it's so hard for some of us to overcome these "feelings".
Genetically inherited unresolved traumas.😔
I love this man! I love the fact that he's educating his children! This is something we need to pass on to our own, despite the color of one's skin.
Powerful conversation, transparent observations, and sharing.
He is THE ONE AND ONLY WILL SMITH, JUST A GREAT ACTOR!! I LOVED THIS VIDEO OF HIM AND HIS CHILDREN. STAY BLESSED Y'ALL 🙏🏾😘😘😘😘😘
Every word you're speaking is the very reason I'm such a fan! Thank you for blessing us with the heart of what you do and go through, to bless us with feeling present in every scene with you! May God keep blessing you and keeping you in HIS Tender Loving Care, because this world needs your genius❤❤❤❤
