    Great information. Thanks for the video! Extending the backlight timeout of the UT139C is certainly on my todo-list.

      +Hugatry's HackVlog Great! When you do open up your meter, could you post a picture? Just curious to see whether the 139C has the IR footprint already.

      +Kerry Wong There is a review/teardown video on electronupdate's channel and at least based on that video, there doesn't seem to be one on the PCB.
      But still... I'll try to remember take pictures when I open the UT139C.

      +Hugatry's HackVlog OK, Thanks!

      +Kerry Wong I disabled the backlight's auto-off function by writing 0 to address FC of the eeprom. Works flawlessly. Thanks again for the information.
      My UT139C's PCB is rev. 4 and I found very nice pictures of same PCB, shared by EEVblog user mos6502: www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-trms-uni-t-ut139c-dmm-is-available-now/msg752661/#msg752661 Unfortunately still no footprints for IR led and the TX pin is used for other functions (Hold and Rel buttons) if I followed the correct trace.

      +Hugatry's HackVlog Cool! Thanks for letting me know. BTW, according to the datasheet, RX is pin 21 and TX is pin 20.

    Brilliant idea.....thanks Kerry.

    Very interesting! Good work on changing the settings and adding the serial feature.
    I'll have to tryout Sigrok.

      +Corgitronics Thanks. Sigrok apparently has a lot of cool functionalities, it has a rather powerful logical analyzer client.

    wonderful jop
    I have a question about htt118 habotest multimeter.
    I have used it to measure an over voltage value and it has gone
    not all feaatures are working only Ohm and current measuring buzzer as well may be working I don't remmber exactly.
    now my question is
    is the cause of this problem adue to flash eprom faliure or microcontroller problem which one I should replace?
    the microcontroller is a chip on board one but many sources claim it is a DTM 0660

    I have a Zeast 282 multimeter and I'd like to archive somewhat the same like here. It seems the registers for the backlight and auto-power off are working, however not for the RS232.
    Can you please take a look at my comment at the eevblog forum, where you made a post?
    Thanks and best regards

    hey, I have a mestek dm91a, I tried to edit those hex addresses with arduino, but it dimmed my display. What datasheet you were using to find dim, power off timer and etc ?

    Hey Kerry, I have a UEI meter with this chipset. How can I extend the backlight and tweak some other things? I don't mind soldering and I have USB to serial adapters.

    • @KerryWongBlog
      @KerryWongBlog  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a UEI meter, but since the backlight duration setting is stored in the EEPROM you should in theory be able modify memory location to achieve that. More detail can be found here: www.kerrywong.com/2016/03/19/hacking-dtm0660l-based-multimeters/

      It's this one a.co/50VqiZd based on the same exact DTM0660L

    Very interesting hack! I have always wanted to do a similar thing to one of my meters and this technique can be applied to any multimeter asic that uses an external eeprom. Thanks!

    Will this work for backlight function override (constant on) for the AN8002 meter and how complicated is this for a semi newb? I'm ok following along with Arduino stuff but eeprom is kinda new to me. THANKS

      @KerryWongBlog  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what chip AN8002 uses. If you have more information I can take a look.

      Kerry Wong ANENG AN8002 ....they also offer 860...8001...8004 and it's re branded under titles like zt101 blah blah blah...I'm looking for more info but all I see inside is a black blob so far...digging deeper as you read this...thanks!

      Kerry Wong I found out it's the 24c02 "EEPROM" ...does that help?

    • @KerryWongBlog
      @KerryWongBlog  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Need to know the main chip. The data stored in the EEPROM depends on what the main chip is.

    • @MyBigThing2010

      Kerry Wong shoot...that's all I could find...n that was with a lot of help on a thread under a different video from somebody willing to comment back about ten times to my inquires...and scouring the internet for info..I'm working with a black blob on the board and an unmarked 8 pin SMD IC...he sent me links to jpgs to the pinout of the 8 pin and told me what pins I need to use to communicate with the EEPROM but no software or programming or code info/parameters.... I'm at a loss to provide anything more than I have..cuz it's all I know/can find. ...thanks though :(

    I like the video, but going to the trouble of adding an ir link is a bit of overkill, even though everybody an his brother does it this way, just put in a jumper for rs 232 communication.
