    So, Library of Ruina is actually an indie game made by South Korean studio Project Moon, and is the direct sequel to the game Lobotomy Corporation despite having wildly different gameplay. The game’s plot revolves around the protagonist being in charge of a supernatural library where guests from the game’s dystopian City are invited to battle it out against the librarians on different floors of the library in combat rituals called Receptions. If they win, they get the books they wished for and all the knowledge contained within. If they lose, they get morphed into books and their knowledge is added to the Library. The goal of the game is to expand the library in this way until the protagonist gains the “one perfect book” that will transform her into a human (she was originally a sentient machine), so you’re essentially playing a villain protagonist aside from the librarians forced to work under her who tend to be more traditionally heroic. As you go through the story, you get to learn all about the game’s wild world and the many crazy personalities that inhabit it, as well as learn some lessons about what it means to truly live, the value of forgiveness, the nature of free will, and other existential themes you don’t expect to see at first glance. It’s a very underrated game, in my opinion. It’s also hard as donkey balls, though not nearly as hard as its predecessor.
    Now THIS theme. This is the theme for an endgame series of boss fights that kicks off the climax of the story. The group that’s fought is called the Reverberation Ensemble, the primary antagonistic group of the story and where the name of the track comes from. Their members are fought on every floor of the library (the different settings you see in the video are the library’s floors), and the Asiyah/Briah/Atziluth titles you see are names of the library’s different layers. Each phase is played on each layer, with the last, Argalia, being the name of the Ensemble’s leader, fought on the topmost floor. What I love most about this theme is that the instruments played in each phase correspond to where each Ensemble member is fought. The group obviously has a musical theme to them, and have titles relating to orchestra placements. For example, one is the First Violin, another is the Pipe Organ, and so on. So the Pipe Organ member is fought on Atziluth, etc. And it’s interesting that you noticed that the last phase is a combination of the previous ones, because Argalia is the Conductor of the Ensemble, so he’s basically conducting his members in one last stand. It’s a wonderful intertwining of traditional and musical storytelling.
    About the loud CLINK sounds between phases you mentioned… they are actually finger snaps. No, they are not in the gameplay itself, and are utilized as phase transition markers by this uploader and a few others because it’s a signature sound effect of the game used by the main protagonist (and are used frequently because multi-phase tracks make up almost the ENTIRETY of this game’s non-vocal battle themes). Some enjoy or do not mind the snaps, but I know some people who absolutely HATE it. I personally do not mind it, even enjoy it to an extent because it’s such a dramatic and theatrical way to announce the next phase (the battles of the game are sometimes referred to as stageplays). You seem to be somewhere in the middle, but the other tracks I request of this game probably won’t have the snaps.

    • @dylanmcglothlin7636
      @dylanmcglothlin7636 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Adding onto the snaps, if you look for it there is a playlist of all the multi-phase themes with no snaps but the snaps were inserted for a good reason. Kether, Malkuth, Yesod, Hod, Netzach and Guest Battle to a slightly lesser degree don't smoothly transition into the next phase of their theme like others songs do and function as variations on a theme which makes more sense in the context of its implementation but less sense outside of the game.
      The rest of the multi-phase themes are fine without the snaps but they were most likely added for consistency because the entire ost was uploaded by the same person

    • @arachineatzeer7478
      @arachineatzeer7478 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also EACH floor you see in this video has it's own themes, for example the foundry looking floor is mostly high pace metal, the one that looks like on a bridge over a techno city has a different style altogether, the one with clock looking windows has a choir, churchy vibe and so on.

    Without context, it was interesting that you could hear how the instruments were clashing with each other. Each instrument is meant to represent an invader into the library, led by one man who brought them together as the "conductor". Even though they are all here with the common goal, the motives that drive each member are vastly different from one another. Dunno if this was intentional by EIM Studios or not, but it's good to hear opinions coming from people who haven't played this game.
    I hope you do these for other tracks in the game. Would love to hear your input on floor themes and boss themes.

    One last thing. My experience with this game, and this soundtrack in particular has been fairly unique compared to other game soundtracks I listened to. You see, this game started off in Early Access, with the development team gradually adding areas and plot scenarios until they reached their final product. This also applies to the composers, Studio EIM (previously known for MapleStory’s OST), who added music tracks and even expanded/updated them. This track in particular got the biggest glow-up. Before, each phase was about 40 seconds long. The final version here has THREE WHOPPING MINUTES for each phase, and reasonably sounds like it could be played by a real-life orchestra. It’s been such a treat and a joy watching/hearing the composers outdo themselves every time over the past year for seemingly no reason other than passion for their work, and it has me looking forward to whatever else they put out in the future. It has me looking forward to seeing you react to other amazing tracks from this game, as well.

    The snap between stages is added in post, in game these 4 songs are used for 10 separate, unique bosses (corresponding to the pictures in the bottom). The first track has 4, the second 3, the third 2 and the last one one, the "conductor". It being a huge song and a journey is intentional because the Reverberation encounter lasts HOURS.

    Its great that you enjoyed this theme and you pronounced the ruina correctly just before you started the theme.
    Reverberation is the culmination of all the members designated instrument. Like cello and violin. Plus the group you see in the beginning were the Reverberation Ensemble
    The different stages are floors of the library. Aisyah is the lower floors. Briah is the middle floors. Atizulith is the upper floors.
    Argalia is the leader of the ensemble and plays remixes of the theme version. Furthermore, Argalia fought against the deuteragonist for a straight week without brakes.
    Now for the game. Library of Ruina is a card building, turn based rpg where you rolls dices for actions. The library invited people with books that granted them knowledge, actual powers and riches.
    To obtain the books, the guest need to overcome the trial in the library. They could come alone or brings company (both literally and figuratively). The guest will be turned into a book themselves if they died.
    Emotions need to be high in order to get more books out of the guests
    The game focused on the main characters motivation from the prequel and the consequences of the prequel's ending.
    Hoped that explained something about the game. One of my favorite games if you cant tell.

    Amazing that you noticed that the instruments clash with each other. A core thing with The Reverberation Ensemble (the group whose fight song this is) is that they're strong but fundamentally unstable, representing the "qliphoth" from the kabbalah mysticism. It's the inverse of the "sephirah", the tree of harmony in which the goodness of god emanates down to mankind. It's supposed to be multiple aspects of virtue that are all in balanced harmony with one another, and so the qliphoth is instead vice in discord. And this is even represented mechanically. The final time you fight the group they all get in each other's way, with most of their mechanics having a way to twist it against their other teammates. The Reverberation Ensemble are also all linked to music, with each one being associated with an instrument, and their leader Argalia being named the "conductor".

    The Reverb Ensemble has 9 members and 1 conductor, with each of the members representing a different instrument. When you fight them, you fight them in 4 sections, with one being against their conductor. Each section is played with the instruments of the members of the section, with Assiyah being 'Cello', 'Harp', 'Percussion', and 'Horn, Tuba, Trombone', Briah being 'Clarinet', 'Viola', and 'Second Violin', and Aziluth being 'First Violin' and 'Pipe Organ'. Finally, Argalia is all of them, since he's the conductor.

    Yes, so glad to see Library of Ruina music on here!! I love the mention that they seem that each instrument can survive on its own yet are clashing together in this group. I felt that the Reverberation Ensemble, the group that this song represents all have this common goal so they work together, yet you fight each one separately. They haven't yet found their footing as a team, until their comeback later where they have another amazing soundtrack as someone mentioned as well, the "Distorted" version.
    I also personally love the snap effect because it's something you always hear when you play the game, so it's very satisfying to hear along with the music haha. The studio that was commissioned to make the OST, Studio EIM, also has this song on their channel without any sound effects though, They do a ton of Korean videogame OST work (as they are a Korean company), including MapleStory!

  • @krisparker1014
    @krisparker1014 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    Oh someone beat me to it. I was planning to actually request some Library of Ruina music. Project Moon OSTs are so good. The click is an actual in game sound effect that plays when actions are made. It's very iconic for the game and most edits unfortunately use it for the phase transitions. The backgrounds from the game are the battle "stages" where the combat "scenes" play out. Each one is a floor of the Library with a different theming such as Language, Philosophy, etc.
    My favorite thing about the ost is that the instruments almost feel like they are singing or crying depending on the situation. They composer, Studio EIM really nailed the game's instrumental tracks. This particular theme plays during a boss rush segment where you fight a boss from "The Reverbration Ensemble" on each floor progressing upwards through the Library to the top floor where the protagonist, Roland, confronts Argalia, the man known as "The Blue Reverbration." Each of the bosses are described by another character as being specific "instruments" in the ensemble, and Argalia is the "Conductor," and the piece as a whole is designed to reflect this.

    Jesse on Chesod Floor: "Is this a tornado sucking up civilization?" Yeah, you battle on the Floor to keep your loving, kindness, and humanity. Your enemy is a dad who is obsessed with reviving his son, even though the monster he "revives" is not even his son, it's just a mindless monster.
    Jesse on Binah's Floor: "Are we entering dracula's castle?" cracks me up. You literally fight a vampire there. Elena is a vampire claims to be human and asks for human right, but she also succumbs to her thirst for blood, lacking her wisdom. I always love to fight on Binah's Floor.
    10 Floor, 10 Corruptions of humanity and you fight through them to become a human being once again.
    About Reverberation part, that is quite correct as well. The goal of that Blue Reverberation group is to steal the Light (the Power that can manifest your mental psyche into nuclear weapons) and corrupt the whole city because they have trauma in the past and now they just give up on humanity and try to do whatever the heck they desire when Distorted. They come to our Library to "leave a mark into the City" and use it to start a chaotic era.
    "The instruments clash but somehow they fit together in a bizarre way" is also what people called that group. Normally, Distorted people just selfishly care about their desire to the point that they will not open their mouth to speak, but Argalia somehow groups them and gather an army to war the Library is an astounding feat.

    I havent finished watching the video but Im liking it and will give some context:
    This theme is very near the end of the game, which consists of 10 boss fights back to back! Each boss is titled after an instrument, and each part of the song is divided beetween wich boss you are going against. The first song consist of Cello, Harp, Percussion, Horn, Tuba, Trombone with the second being Clarinet, Viola and 2nd Violion. The third part of the song is mainly played by the Pipe Organ and 1st Violin.
    Eventually, you fight Argalia, the maestro, and this is the part where every instrument is joined together. It makes a really nice song which builds up over time and comes back fully formed at the very end.
    Great video!

    Makes me hopeful someone someone would react to the ost of this game's prequel Lobotomy Corporation. Specifically Tilarids's music for the game.
    1st and 2nd warning would be obvious picks but for me tracks like Blue Dots and Red Dots had more of an impact on me.
    Eager for something similar I tried properly listening to Insignia Decay and Circle rombed oxygen too.
    Excuse my wording, I'm no music expert.
    Much like how when I was very young my parents would constantly play Rage against the machine in the car. I used to hate the confusing and violent instruments and tone, but after being exposed to it for lengthy amounts of time (Long car rides and lengthy LoR modded battles with the music as boss music) I grew accustomed, even fond of these unique sounds. Almost feels like an acquired taste of sorts.
    in Circle rombed oxygen the repeating melody that appears in the background after a while is absolutely enchanting and I can't stop tapping along with Insignia Decay, finding rhythm and consistency in the chaos.
    Haven't yet taken the time to listen to non-Lcorp Tilarids music but if there's something similar to this I'd be kinda interested.

    • @MilanTehVillain

      To add on to that, the Librarians represent the Sephirot nodes on the Kabbalah Tree of Life. Whereas, the Reverb Ensemble represent the Qliphoth nodes on the Tree of Death.
      In both a figurative & literal sense, they're polar opposites.

    For a bit of context, the meaning of the song isn’t actually related to how the song sounds like at all actually. The last phase’s name - Argalia - is the name of the main antagonist of the game, and his title is The Blue Reverberation, while his… “gang” is called The Reverb Ensemble. This entire track is The Reverb Ensemble’s battle theme, as the ten of them storm the library in a boss rush-type ordeal.

    I noticed several times through the songs you said that you felt conflicted about the songs, often in a good way. I just wanted to mention that was the intent, as the boss fight this plays in is supposed to build up to the climax of the game, the culmination of constantly questioning whether or not you're making the right choices, hence the conflicted feelings in the song. Additionally, on the topic of the name of the song, "Reverberation" comes from the particular group that act as the boss of this particular boss rush, known as the "Reverberation Ensemble." An interesting thing is that all of the members positions in the group are named after an instrument, with the leader and who the group is named after, Argalia the "Blue Reverberation," being the conductor. Even if someone isnt that much of a gamer I still recommend this game to a lot of people, as it(and the entire series) is a storytelling masterpiece that shows how much you can truly do with a video game.

    If you plan to react to more music from Library of Ruina, I recommend Lunartique07's videos since they don't have the added loud snap sounds. Some of his videos are a bit shorter than the more popular ones since the popular ones do loop the shorter phases, but I think it's better to not have your ears ambushed. If he does not have the specific song you're reacting to, the most popular video of the song should be fine.
