- Upscaled 60fps in-car footage of London, UK in the 60's (please watch in 1080p60/720p60). I added ambient sounds as the original film clip was silent.
Original footage ( • Late 1960s Oxford Stre... ) is from the Kinolibrary Archive Film Collections. To order the clip clean and high res for your commercial project or to find out more visit www.kinolibrary....

These people would probably cry if they saw what London is like now.
I certainly do.
Rose tinted glasses. The 60’s weren’t as great as you remember them to be, living standards are much higher now
@@yourfriendlyneighbourhoods8202 Living standards are higher, morale and social cohesion is lower than ever. All 3 are important. London was a high-trust city back then, nowadays its an amalgamation of people who dont adhere to British values.
People are less happy now. Not everything is about material goods
@@jakelaurent6 Lol When your PM Maggie Thatcher wanted no restrictions on business and trade, you should have seen this coming. Soviet Union was the truly conservative county.
How clean and uncluttered it looked. No stench of "street food", and rickshaw bikes carting chavs around
It looks like a decent place, no litter and well dressed respectable people
I love watching these old films of everyday life in the great City of London, I was born here in 57 ! the place today is not as I remember it. I miss the old place, But not the current model,
Me too what happened to our England.
Our weak politicians from both main parties are responsible for failing to spot the cracks in the calendar.@@gabriellaj.o.6180
So many actual clothes! What a refreshing view
fantastic video, shows when the streets were relatively safe calm and clean, this just on the eve of us being enriched how things have changed,
In 1967 Steed and Mrs Peel ruled the roost on British television, the Avengers became the immortal heroes of that golden age gone forever, the Swinging sixties.
Didn't notice any commonwealth, did you..?
If only we could go back in time.

memories of a time before all the rabble from all over the world gathered in London...
Just like Spain is niw laying down some strict dress code rules for the rabble from other countries who totally disrespect their country when on holiday . The British and Germans are some of the worst apparently with their binge drinking ... same in Greece and other places .
Memories of a time after the British empire looted half of the world...
@@jeshkam not only looted, but also civilized
@@tadcotadco6344 10% civilized, 90% looted
@@jeshkam it is difficult to determine the proportion. For example, in India there was such a bastard custom as the burning of a daughter-in-law by her mother-in-law when her husband died. The British, using fire and sword, shot 20,000 mothers-in-law, and reduced this custom to a minimum. But when the British left, the custom revived.
In the colonies in Africa and Oceania, the British and French put an end to cannibalism
Anybody traveling to London in 2024 expecting to see this, is in for a surprise!
Note cyclists cause no trouble like they do today. They simply get on with it.
Hi from Russia. At 01:10 till 01:30 I see an interesting old taxi car. Also, a great admire is that in the center of London there is no sign of the buildings demolished in WWII.

This Canadian was being conceived that year and 22 years later would be visiting London on a working holiday (Bournemouth to be exact). It was a great experience to visit England and live there. Great memories.
Change is slow and cumulative. It’s only when you look back many years later that you realise how much has changed. And that includes us people, as well as the street scape ! I’m glad this stuff was recorded.
Noticed the umbrella decking at Oxford Circus for the new Victoria line.
Although only six years old, I can still remember my Mum taking me to Oxford St and Regent on the odd Saturday. Just ten years later and I got a job at Marks and Spencer near Oxford Circus. Looking at this and comparing the heffalumped sacks of spuds covered in tatoos you commonly see now is pretty yuk.
Great clip, remember Oxford Street like that, great shots of many of the stores now totally gone such as Woolworths, DH Evans (House of Frasers though), etc. Always surprising to see that raised section at Oxford Circus, can't recall when it was changed but I remember it like that. Wonderful to see all the fashions of the time with the bright purples, yellows etc
Looks like the change was happening right here
A blast from the past indeed with c & a, little woods, wimpy bar etc.
@@SwingBandHeaven Yes, loved Littlewoods, C&A etc
The raised section of road at Oxford Circus was to do with the construction of the new Victoria underground line beneath and the remodeling of Oxford Circus station.
Dh Evans went in 2001 as house of fraser then went altogether. I remember when it had a posh refurb in 1986.
Nice clip! Great to see & hear our lovely RM’s serving the travelling public. One thing that’s noticeable is how relatively uncrowded the pavements are compared to today.
Nice footage, as someone else observed in another video of the era, there's a complete lack of foreign cars!
One thing that strikes me about this wonderful video clip and others from a similar era, is how litter free the streets appear to be compared to now. What the hell happened?? London's streets (and pretty much every other busy town) are a complete mess these days.
People didn’t walk around shoving burger and chips into their faces, so didn’t have scads of bloody polystyrene and paper to dispose of. Then there was the “Keep Britain Tidy” campaign, when did that end? Haha!
also there are more people living on the planet generally compared to the numbers previously, in the 60-s.
we talk about millions of new dwellers of the Earth.
so no wonder)
If they import the 3rd world, you get the 3rd world, and that's exactly what's happening. And no one asked for it .
totally fascinating, somewhere out there I am 5 years old, down the road fromTooting Beck common with my mum, dad and brother
A city full of English cars and buses. How things have changed.
keep posting these! they're so good, ill edit them with some 90s jazz music.
Some of my fondest and most vivid memories are of getting on the number 7 bus in Oxford Street around Christmas time. Rushing to the front of an old Routemaster to look out the window in the pouring rain and the conductor printing out your ticket with that purple coloured ink and seeing if it was a lucky ticket (all the numbers adding up to 21!!)
I too loved the number 7 which went from Paddington to Holborn.
In London 1967 an angry agent resigned, was kidnapped, and was brought to the mysterious Village. (A reference to the TV show "The Prisoner".)
Be seeing you.
Marshall & Snelgrove before it became Debenhams 7:02
Rear facing dashcam in 1967? Very posh. 😁
Most of these people are dead or 80s 0r 90s max.
when England was England and not full of illegal immigrants
If we compare what Londoners looked like then and now, I can say that in those days people were more sporty and elegant... It seems that Londoners have degraded over 60 years.
They are not true Londoners nor British now.
Are you from the future, sightseeing the past?

Love the quality of the film, its clarity is brilliant !
This is like the video reels from Man in the High Caste, but the other way around.
I was alive in this year. I know this street well.
Are you still alive in 2024 ?
Interesting there are almost no restaurants, cafes or places to eat. No food or coffee franchises at all.
Are you sure ?
@@mujemoabraham6522 well which ones do you spot? of course there were store franchises but no endless coffee chains and sandwich chinas.
My recollection is that there were cafes, mostly on the side streets. And I know Littlewoods and the department stores served food and drink. But Starbucks and Costa, not until the late nineties and early 2000s.
All those old shop names, gone.
I thought about how many are still with us
♥
Where are the Arabs and Indians?
The film is not the 60's . There was a Vauxhall car with a suffix reg "L" which dates it to about 1973
It's definitely not 1973 - just look at the fashion and hairstyles.
I agree, the old Marshall & Snelgrove's building is in this clip( towards the end at about 2mins. 48s ) and that was pulled down about 1970.@@hugodrax71
The raised section of Oxford Circus clearly seen here as we travel over it was removed after the Victoria Line was completed in early 1969. This is about 1967, so erm there you go.
J Reg (Aug 1970 - Jul 1971) Austin Taxi on Oxford Street behind the Routemaster, can clearly see it at 3:27.
@@GordonWaddellthat taxi has a six digit number plate, a format used up until 1963, so that taxi is older than 1963.
