I'm new to all this so I have to ask since I really don't know: Are these deer killed early on in their lives?
Because I know that Whitetails can get 12 to 20 years old in captivity. So I'm confused as to why people keep calling a 3 year old deer 'older' given they are just barely adults at that age (similar to horses and dogs I suppose).
Are these farms just breeding them for a year and then they get slaughtered for food or trophies or how does this work?

I think if they have good genetics the tend to keep them for a long time. Cause they breed them and also sell the semen. Id imagine if a deer doesnt show very good genetics they either cull it or sell it maybe, im not a hundred percent sure

@@ryanslapz I suppose that would make sense. Tho I'm not sure since I've heard even the big names be titled old when they are barely adults, so that is kinda weird to me. The only thing I can think of is that genetics are generally that 'bad' that most big bucks don't throw much useful offspring, hence why it'd be the norm (based on what you said) to get rid of them per standard when they are about 3 years.
All in all I'd personally give them more time to prove themselves. Plus, it's not always the bucks' fault, so 2 years of breeding doesn't seem like a good timeframe to judge for me personally.
