I remember Hughes ran for 189m a few weeks ago against the Dolphins and was the new messiah for his running game. Cleary runs for 200+m twice in only 13 games. One of those was 212m and 30+ tackles in a GF against Melbourne and he's had a quiet game. Lol
The Dragons run was in a Sydney competition. Not to be compared to the Panthers 4 in a row in a national competition. Moreover, the salary cap was only introduced in recent years to stop a team from dominating over time. The main factor is Penrith's success is Coach Ivan Cleary and the organisation itself. Their management is outstanding and second to none. How amazing that Cleary has never been coach of the year.
@@8101nevermind Gus played a big part, so did a lot of other people but Cleary has remade the teams so many times since. The dragons 11 in a row was when there was no 6 tackle rule, you just kept the ball and they had the majority of the kangaroo team in their squad.
Anyone thinking that game boring doesn’t appreciate good footy. That entire first half was on a knife edge of who will break first, the ball was in play something stupid like 35 minutes. Incredible game.
Re Grand final experience. I was thinking that over the week and Cam Smith in this podcast discussed it. The 2020 Melbourne side defeating the 2020 PP side, of which Cam Smith was a part of in his last game and as always instrumental in the win. The PP said that game put the fire and hunger into the PPP and the last 3 Premierships in a row. And now the 2024 PP side defeating the MS 2024 side. The experience as to how to manage the game and the opposition and win it, was with Panthers. Same as it was in 2020 in reverse. The current Melbourne side will now have to take this as the lesson to drive them next year onwards. In short, Melbourne I feel have basically completed their rebuilt post big 3/4 and will be in the top 4 and a contender every year from here on out. Paps, Munster Hughes and Grant. The new big 3/4.
About Nelson. He was so much missed by the Storm given the way the game turned out. But these two talking like he was out due to injury or something that was no fault of his own. It was clear He should not have gone in with the shoulder like that with his height and weight and all into the kickoff return. His shoulder landed on Collins' head flush. We all saw it on all TV. What was the judiciary supposed to do?
Yep I think the last 4 years is slowly taking a toll on the panthers boys , this year they were no where near their best during the season how ever they still managed to come second in the comp. Ivan mentioned that the hunger too push themselves this year has been the main obstacle to why their season was not perfect . I guess he meant that they were turning up every day but maybe not quite pushing themselves to do the extras as you would trying to win your first Grand Final. But what they did was they timed their Push saved it for the final and then gave it their all in the GF. It worked this time round but will it work next year ? If 2025 managers to have the same 2 teams in the GF ,Penrith will be looking in the mirror as a young Melbourne team seeking to revenge their lost . Now that will be a Grand Final to watch .
See what happens? Souths with Wayne, Broncs with Madge, Cronulla with AFB, Dogs will improve, Wahs with Fish, who knows? Then there is the team who lose the GF against the panthers drop off the next year.
Cam getting jealous of Cleary ??? Said he was okay nothing special or great, he ran for 212 meters, he made over 50 takes, directed players set up a try with a pass, also set up a try with a kick, also he pined Storm with his long kicking game (nearly all game) in their ten and pretty sure he also broke the line multiple times. I do agree that Liam and Yeo was best on park and either deserved Clive Churchill. I feel like people can’t understand or respect Cleary and the (panthers), tall poppy syndrome, instead of watching greatness in front of them and enjoying and celebrating it.
Nelson would of been gassed in the first 7 minutes!! Everytime panthers play storm they exploit Nelsona fitness. Melbourne were better off without him.
Congrats Panthers but you're glossing over how toothless and poor the Storm were they just didn't compete made for a boring GF Penrith did it far too easy.
I just want to know how Melbourne are keeping their team together and adding Stefano? Panthers are losing Jarome, Fish and Tito. Last year the Broncs lost Flegler, Capewell and Herbie.
It's called developing your own players which great coach's do and in doing so allows for you to pay spine players and other big name players. It's like penrith they let go of players they have developed into big names because other clubs pay bigger because penrith keep there spine players and they get upgrades on there contracts which push's players out but storm and penrith have both been at the top for developing new players.
Also a player that has been at penrith for it's past four straight wins is looking at a very healthy contract at any club and that will be alot of inspiration for the younger generation that's coming through at penrith makes players more hungry
@@handlesrt583 Melbourne have no juniors, the only Victorian player on GF day played in the interstate cup. Melbourne were supposed to grow the game, after 25 years how many players in the NRL are from Victoria. Blore was the panthers sg ball winning team captain and you can say the same for most of the storm players, they are not from Victoria. Again, how do they keep the players and stay under the cap? I asked the same of the roosters in the past.
@SlaintheMhath Melbourne have no junior's? I'm sorry but I didn't know you were part of the Melbourne storm board of selectors or something like that..🤣 Melbourne have a few big names I.e hughes Munster grant NAS they can do this because like I've said if you look at there starting 17 from this year alot are unexperienced players but they just play well as they are at a good club with a good coach so these players Melbourne cycle through as rookies are cheap players so they can keep there big names it's kind of logical sense if you actually knew how it works like that. Melbourne having no junior's is a complete laugh they developed NAS Harry Grant cam Munster they all come from Melbourne at the start it just shows why the critics sing Craig Bellamy praises the work he does is terrific
Imagine if the Sharks or Cronulla had played the Panthers in terms of ball in play? If the referees continue to put the whistle away in finals, no team in the bottom half of the top 8 will struggle to win a grandfinal when they have to play more games than the top four teams who get a week off.
You can’t compare Melbourne to 2020 panthers 😂 panthers were about to catch Melbourne in the end 2020, 2024 Melbourne couldnt even get another try, 5 restarts infront of the panthers try line cmon bruh
How is this even a question to contemplate? Of course this team is the greatest of all time, although it would be great to equal South's record of 5 straight in the 1930's. That record is more honourable than the Dragon's 11 in a row as Souths had no poker machines. But when the Panthers run ends, any team from then on will have enormous pressure on them just to win two in a row, never mind just the measly one.🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@SlaintheMhath And that is my point where that the Souths 5 premierships in a row is more creditable than St George's run because they did not have the pokies to hoard all the talent.

Spot on Bob. The 31 tackles seems to be getting missed, when the the avg half back tackle count is 15!

Even from a former storm player your analyses and comments Cameron were unbiased and spot on.
We love all the usual suspects but wasn’t it nice to see the smile on Paul Alamotis face after being ditched from Canterbury. Go young fella enjoy
"Ditched". He took Crighton's spot. More or less a swap. Bulldogs couldn't keep them both.

Honestly refreshing to see podcasts state storm was the better spine, and better bench and for Storm to be completely outclassed in both facets.
And the storm are keeping their whole team and adding Stefano, amazing how they can do that in the salary cap era. How do they do it?
