That was good explanation of this step. But now how does the lead (Men) trigger retrocesso? And how the follow (woman) is supposed to know that "now it'll be retrocesso?"
Interesting question! I’ll forward it to Criso and Ana and come back with an answer 😊 By the way, we actually wanted to ask you to contact us - if you want - either on our Facebook, Instagram or via email (info @ joinangola.org), because we’ve heard a bit about you and would love to have a chat!
So, to answer your question, Criso said it’s a very important point that they’ll include in a future class about the retrocesso, but what we can say in a comment (so without being able to show you) is that it’s all about the movement of the right arm, with which the man leads the follower in all the steps. We have a class about this: Arm work (Semba/Kizomba classes)
Isso e o paso mas importante na kizomba eu acho. It's very hard to explain to beginners! But your way is easier, and I notice many steps start with the leader's RF instead of LF. Many dancers who learn kizomba can be from the Latin dance and are so used to starting with their LF so it's hard to untrain them haha. And if you say 'some moves' are with RF and 'some moves' are with LF...OMG ! a confusao total hahaha
Eheheheheh yes it can be very confusing. We start most of the steps with the RF because generally they come after the retrocesso, which ends with the LF (leader’s perspective). Once you learn it like that, everything is easier. But yes it can be confusing at first!
My rule of thumb is that everytime you turning anticlockwise you have to do retrocesso. clockwise turning there's no need for retrocesso. It's basically like a cha-cha =, correction for you not to stumble. Clockwise turning doesn't require correction and thus you do not need to do retrocesso.
Criso says he agrees with you almost completely, just that not necessarily every time you’re turning anti-clockwise you do the retrocesso, but these are subtle things.
estou no serviço , mas fui a casa de banho ensaiar o retrocesso , e consegui , boa aula
Gostei muito da aula 😄😄

Let us get back to you on this after consulting with Criso! 👍🏾 but of course, in general, if it works for you then it’s ok
