- CT hardcore, Metalcore, metal band Balmora was playing at St Vitus in Brooklyn New York opening for Mindforce (Full show - Mindforce, Balmora, Godskinpeeler, Discontent, Gigan Animal Thugs) When the police decided to shut down the whole show, microphones cut, then guitars cut, followed by announcement. Not a fun way to end a great night. Balmora was on fire before sound was cut. I just saw that when re-watching! Funny. Glad he had a smile on his face at least. I also noticed he was trying to announce the shutdown a full 4 minutes before it happened.

I almost went to this show, and was bummed when it sold out. Now I’m glad I was too late to get tickets, LOL. That really sucks for all the people who paid good money. I dig the energy coming out of this band though. They sound wicked tight.
I was pumped to go...drove 3 1/2 hours in bad traffic and then.....oof. Not the payoff anyone was looking for. Next time🤷

@balaam2553 look for the article on lambgoat. (Can't share it here for some reason) It goes into some detail. Sounds like a paperwork problem at the venue and the authorities used a sold-out/oversold show to make a point.

Going to a Spite show in May and I hope the pit is like this one, everyone seems so chill and having a good time. The Kublai Khan show the following week, I expect to get pulverized.

This was also sold out. (Opening band in this video. Headliner never got to play so bar area never fully came into show room) I was sad I missed PTW....how was it?
ah yeah that makes sense....wild shit. PTW was spectacular. Right in your face, loud as fuck, and got a good sweat in. Felt like I was 20 again. Came in from Atlanta for it and worth the trip for sure.

Band tried to power through…..that was appreciated. If you listen back, they were trying to get them to stop about 8 minutes in when the vocals were cut.
Reminds me of Crypt Sermon's record release show in 2019 at Philamoca where the show was shut down by the cops in the middle of the first band's set. It was from a call from an angry neighbor and apparently the space wasn't up to code. Luckily the show finished at Century Bar, but that really sucked.
It is very similar now that I have the reports on the night. Glad your show eventually found a way to happen🤘

Seemed like a chilled gig in a chilled venue.
If you Google "St Vitus shutdown" there are 3 or 4 solid articles explaining it. It is basically the NYC department of buildings that closed it. Bad paperwork/permits etc. They just chose a sold-out Friday night gig to enforce it.
@@thejondohhshow Thanks for the reply, let's hope that this is just temporary and it gets up and running and all paperwork in order, St Vitus is an important venue and at the heart of a lot of important scenes, it would be heart-breaking for it to come to an end.
Been to events at Vitus many times. They have a habit of really crowding the venue to the point that you can barely move. Sucks that they got hit by the DOB, but can't say I'm terribly surprised. It's ironic that the shut down happened during a show with enough space on the floor for people to run around.

Or they could have shut down the club at noon so everyone didn't have to drive in? They did it for maximum pain on a Friday night during a sold-out show.

@thejondohhshow just took a glance at a couple articles. Complaints seem sort of legit, old laws etc. Dob didn't have to shut down a show though. Overall I still think it's bs. Hopefully the place can get em off their back and keep being a destination for bands 🤘🤙

It is my belief that there are only about 20 actual breakdowns that end up being used in thousands of heavy songs. They end up sounding alike eventually 🤷

And I’ve decided on ‘it’s a tribute’ because I think a good chunk of their audience would recognize this part.

Why did the mofo kick the mic stand. Can' tolerate frustration
2 straight songs where the mics weren’t working at all = frustration. At that point, no one knew they were trying to shut down the show. (On the video, you can hear the sound guy announcing it 5 minutes before it ended though)

@@starspawned78 hardcore shows are generally 15 - 20 minute sets. You have to plow through with as much aggression as possible. If you aren't familiar, I understand. All good. 👍

They're not a hardcore band. Saying that would be like saying the Black Dahlia Murder is hardcore. This is definitely metalcore

They also come from the hardcore scene
When writing titles on TH-cam you get a maximum number of characters. The description of the video uses metalcore, hardcore and metal for the algorithm. The title and thumbnail capitalize on the fact that it was 5 hardcore (or hardcore adjacent) bands show that got shutdown. No need to gatekeep the “category” so hard. Jesus…..half the comments on this channel are people getting butthurt that the band isn’t labeled properly.
The show that was shutdown was most definitely a “hardcore” show. Hence, the title used. Of course Balmora skews metalcore to the ears but "hardcore" in mindset.🤷

I go to a fair number of events at Vitus. I'm surprised that this one is considered oversold with there being enough space for people to run around on the dance floor. Some of the events and shows I've been to have been so packed you can barely move. Watched someone almost get sick from the overcrowding and lack of airflow (it gets reaaaallly hot in there). While it sucks that they got shut down, can't say I'm surprised or disagree with the crowding concerns. Hope they resolve it quickly.
