YAY!!! i am not the only person that put carpets below servers...
Great Job, Wish you could run Crystal Disk Mark on both Volumes the 4.0 TB & 30TB with 9x64GiB & post the results along with your feedback regarding the Acoustics of the MD 1200 is it noisy. can be installed at an office or it should be in the server room
Will do this for another video !
Hi, looks great , almost like the HP p2000 box. One question how loud is the fan ?
Not too loud just a little more than the R820
I have a Dell R620/420. Do I need any special cables/adapter to connect the MD1200 to my servers?
You need the host raid controller and external SAS cables
What if you already had a volume for data and added the MD1200 to the PowerEdge server. Can you expand the existing volume with the new available space or you MUST create a new volume for the MD1200?
Hi ,
Yes you can expand along with your existing volume. However this would need to be a sperate raid so you don't loose your DATA
Let me know, can Dell PowerVault MD1200 connect with Dell EMC 14 Gen Server?
Yes it can
Does it worth with non Dell/3rd party SAS drives?
They work as good as the original , for critical infrastructure always stick with manufacturer certifications / hardware.
can i use it to expand my PC space, it's a custom build
Hi ,
Yes , you can use the HBA Card in your PC and connect the box to it.
@@CTOSERVERScan we do this while the server is running? Eg i have a running server without any external enclosures connected. I want to connect another 12*3.5” sas enclosure to the HBA card in the server. Can I do this without turning off the server and if so, what’s the procedure? Thanks!
Cain I use this for Dell EMC R740 server?
@ImranHossain-t7z yes, you can. You need only a second RAID controller for external use that is comparable with your Disk shelf. But be careful. The PowerVaults chases are more or less the same but the controller in it are different depending on your needs. You could have one of two types of controllers in your PowerVault Disk shelf, an SAN Controller or like here a DAS controller. Both have a mini SAS connector and can be used as a DAS device but SAN controllers are really finicky and sometimes won't cooperate properly if you are inexperienced, but they are more capable and can connect to different systems at the same time over the network. DAS controllers are cheap and easy to handle, and you can stack them and connect them together easier, even with cable and controller failover functionality. i have a two PowerVault MD3600i 24 2.5" with a DAS 6gbit SAS controller, yeah it's not the fastest one, but it fits my needs. i use it with a 12gbit PCIE external SAS controller. i could change the sas controler in the MD3600 but those are expensive and the cables are even more expensive. a 1.5 foot cable 12gbit mini SAS cost 150€ but an 6gbit mini SAS cable costs only 15 to 25€ used because those are flooding the market right now.
i run the md3600 together with a r630.
in fact, i used the md3600 the first time on my old Lenovo ThinkStation 5 years ago i bough the r630 2 years ago because i needed more horsepower.
will it work with regular sata hdd?
Yes ,
Are 2.5 inch HDDs still in vouge ? I thought they are going extinct.
I see you have 2 cables, do you need 2?
i just realised, there are 2 cables, cause they are redundant,
Can it be used on a 720 without HDD?
yes on every hardware that has at least a x8 PCIE 2.0 slot for your compatible external mini SAS RAID Controller. For DELL, use at best the PERC RAID controllers but everything
should work as well, as long you have the right cable.
if you implied with "without HDD" means SSDs for you? Yes SSD are fine. either SAS or SATA, but don't mix SAS and SATA drives on the same controller the signal voltage levle is higher on SAS drives and this may damage your sata drive. if all of them are SATA this isn't a issue because the controller goes in SATA signaling mode. If you mix them, please use interposer cards on your SATA drives.
