Voluspá is the first and best known poem of the Poetic Edda. It tells the story of the creation of the world and its coming end, related to the audience by a völva addressing Odin. It is one of the most important primary sources for the study of Norse mythology. Henry Adam Bellows proposed a 10th-century dating and authorship by a pagan Icelander with knowledge of Christianity.
How.....how is it possible that I, a swiss with basically zero relation to norway, see this video of a song so beautiful and touching, that i suddenly have something in my eye and got chills all over my body? We must never forget, that music is able to reach places in our hearts and souls, that we never thought it would possible! And that's probably the best thing humans are capable of.....making music!
It is more than possible my friend, search through your roots and you may be suprised.. I am a french canadian, and my most ancient roots as far as I know are from Germany. You are as so close as you can be to the roots of the viking culture, way closer than I am 😂
Simply because the sounds could as well been played by any germanic tribe. And because it sounds so natural and primal that it resonates with all of us.

But these songs, these sagas of Norse gods and heroes, it just touches a different spot. I feel like they are part of me and thats too strange for me. I love the feeling tho. @Tarkhun legendary Tur/Turan=Thor. The people of Tur/Thor and their descendents have spread to so many nations from the original Turan (land of Tur/Thor). Many became TURks in Türkiye, many others became Germanics in Western&Northern Europe where many regional names or family names also refer to Tur aka Thor (like Thüringen in Germany). You are one of these descendants. This music resonates with these ancient times. It's sort of a encryption in your dna which is now re-discovered and re-awakened by the music.

@quadcore That's because they're not really so different. Before Christianity and the Abrahamic religions took hold in Europe they were polytheistic and practiced shamanic rituals not all that different from American Indian religions and cultures. That all changed when Europe became christianized. Thankfully it was never 100 percent eliminated.... thanks to Allfather.

This is a masterpiece. It touches every fiber of your soul and brings joy and melancholy at the same time. As Einar said once, this evokes circles that need to be closed to open new ones, something needs to die to let other things to be born.
Absolutely pure spirit in this song. I dont understand any words he sing, but it doesnt matter. Simply it touched my soul. From Slav brother. Heil to your God Odin! Sláva Perúnu!
Well, Slavs have really similar collection of gods to Nords, so if you want exact equivalent of Odin in Slavic mythology, it is Svarog. Perun is equivalent to Thor. Greetings from Bohemia!
Einar, Wardruna..and even Danheim (and many, many others) are recreating this world from the pagan spiritual realm. We are being called to wake from the deep waters of slumber to bear witness to a greater and far ancient power. What a true blessing to be present and alive to mark moments such as this in our history...
Krön Andersson “Pagan: a person holding religious beliefs other than those of the main world religions.” How on earth is paganism “Christianity”? This makes 0 sense
Einar has denied any connection to Asatru...he just writes and performs music for traditional instruments. Also, the Latin term "pagan" simply denotes a person who lives in the country, and has nothing to do with spiritual beliefs.

@@barbarbarbarson2436, isn't it a matter of personal experiences and one's outlook on life in general? I personally have never held any grudges against the Germanic peoples and I'm quite sure back in our Pagan days people were not just simply blinded by hate driven feelings towards one another :) Some might have been, some might have not. It's never either black or white. At least not in every case. Besides, music is a language that knows no boundaries and oftentimes strikes a unique chord without us even thinking of the reason behind it - all we know is that the beauty of that certain piece speaks to our souls and moves us deeply. Have a good day :)
I'm an Indian Hindu, I have no idea about the language, can't understand a word yet,I can feel it in my bones. Skal my Nordic brothers.🙏 We'll reunite in Valhalla someday.
I am hungarian, but somehow feel this song in heart. Actually in our mythology we also have the same 9 level life tree, like Yggdrasil in yours, which suggests some common origin. Love it.
@@landydocgryyfud5342 I've never read that Hungarians are of Viking orgin... they are descendants of the people of Siberia..that's why Hungarian, Estonian and Finnish are very closely related Urgric languages!
@@jfg1104 ethnical origin has nothing to do with our language. As far as I know Finns and Hungarians are not related ethnically, but our languages are. But you are right that Hungarians have nothing to do with Scandinavians, at least not culturally nor ethnically. Historically people in Europe had a lot to do with each other, check for example Kylfings that has stuff to do with Hungary in a historical context. But I am not a historian, nor a researcher of relegious history, so I shut up instead before I talk too much bullshit.
This is a wonderful piece of music dedicated to the accounts on Ragnarok! I love the imagery especially, particularly with seeing Freki and Geri running around, alongside the repetitive shots of Nornir spinning the Fates (thread). As we are looking back and forth on the misty fog, we are continually sent back to the Norn and her thread, speaking to the repetitious nature of Ragnarok. Unlike the Christian view of what the 'end' may look like where it is a final -end-, Ragnarok is seen differently. It is a continuous process and simply marks a rebirth; not an end. Speaking of Ragnarok, the most telling imagery of this is in the breaking of the tree. We see this through the bark that has been cracked and pushed out, marking a visualisation of Yggdrassil, the ash tree, the world tree. Of course, there are plenty of other smaller indicators, such as the bones and dead trees we can see around the forest, but I think this is the strongest. It is interesting to see Einar alone in the woods, which I think is something we should think on as well. Rather than being surrounded by various little things happening at once, the Skald (Einar) is alone in the woods with only his lyre and later Odin's hounds. It's a shame we did not see the raven's Huginn and Muginn, as that could also have made some great imagery. but either way, this is a tremendously well video that really does the sagas justice. As always, his vocal composition of this song truly gives these 1,000 year-old words the justice they deserve. I believe that the single instrument and lone voice really sells it. Voluspa was not composed with an orchestra, but would most likely have been sung by a single of small group of Skalds and instruments. So, by singing it alone, it really gives a historical and almost an 'earthy' feel to it. It makes the song feel just that bit more authentic! Well done, Wardruna. As always, you've raised the bar.
The only thing I might add is that in the credits we can see 3 different wolves were used and are you positive the wolves aren't representing something else from Norse mythology? There are many different things they could represent. This video has been the trickiest one of Einars to fully break down for me
@@TheCodeMaster191 Hi, It's possible, of course, but they may well have used 3 different wolves because of the shots they needed. One could have been a replacement etc. I think the main indicator that it is Freki and Geri is in fact that there is never no more than two wolves. It is the same when depicting Hugin and Munin. For instance, if I were to point towards some songs, such as Corvax Corus' song regarding the two birds, you never see more than two in one shot. Pairs are fairly common within Norse Mythology, and Freki and Geri are probably the more identifiable of one of those. It certainly did take me a few takes to break down the major parts. There are things I've also only just picked up after rewatching, such as the boiling of the water (another attribute of Ragnarok), so it's possible I may have missed a third wolf!
Since Voluspá is the Prophecy of the Seeress, I would say that the elderly woman in the video is not one of the Norns but rather a Volva. Spinning the threads was closely associated with the act of seidr. Also, since Ragnarok is the main theme here, then the wolves are definitely not representing Geri and Freki but rather Skoll and Hati, since the two are destined to swallow the Sun and the Moon at the onset of Ragnarok.
@@tabiabias To add to this breakdown of the video. Do you think it is drawing parallels between the strings of the Volva and the strings on Einar's instrument? Is it suggesting einar has some control over his own fate or he simply has to play the strings he is dealt while the Volva can create them from scratch completely? Maybe I'm going to far but it goes from the Volva's strings to his own which suggests something

@@barbarbarbarson2436, isn't it a matter of personal experiences and one's outlook on life in general? It's never either black or white. At least not in every case.
This video has been the trickiest one of Einars to fully break down for me
@@TheCodeMaster191 Hi,
It's possible, of course, but they may well have used 3 different wolves because of the shots they needed.
@@tabiabias Ah, yes! That makes more sense. Cheers.

Escutem minhas palavras, todos os homens
Vocês, grandes e pequenos filhos de Heimdall
Você me convocou Odin, para contar o que eu me lembro
Dos feitos mais antigos dos deuses e dos homens
O sol fica negro, a terra afunda no mar
As estrelas brilhantes caem do céu
Cachoeiras fluem e águias voam no alto

This music is in my DNA. It makes me feel strong and indestructible, as well as unafraid. I love Norway have been to the mother country several times. Love this music as it touches me deep inside.
I still have to go to the mother country! Am looking forward to going to Kvernes and Mor Og Romsdal where my ancestors came from
This song was especially incredible last night at Red Rocks. I think I even stopped breathing for a bit, it was just stunning live. Cannot wait for you to come back. Thank you ❤

It’s no wonder Vikings were so bad ass. I feel the most at peace, centered, present and ready for whatever life throws at me I ever have before. This is powerful I can feel it
Learning about my Scandinavian heritage has opened a whole new side of life for me. Along with being British/Irish and African, I really feel much more connected to myself and my ancestors. Music like this seems to strengthen those connections even more.

Yes, it's Old Norse.

@@anthonymartin6831 Aint that the truth
As Anthony said, the gods call upon who they wish just as you're free to approach them for a relationship. I don't agree with the concept of having a "Scandinavian soul". There's just the soul or your being. You're no less of a practicioner if you're from Northern Europe than you are from Brazil, Japan, Turkey, or where ever. The gods transcend trivial matters like this.
Saw them live in Atlanta, he sung this at the end. I did indeed cry and let the gods flow through me
