Ben Davies I’ll grant that I’m no expert on Flamenco but I have enjoyed watching it for quite some time. During the dance the guitar follows the dancers, it doesn’t provide the rhythm or the percussions. That is completely in the hands and feet of the dancers. From the castanets to the hard soles of the dancers shoes comes the entire rhythm of the dance. Oh, and Ben just to offer a small correction. You seem, from your statement, to be under the impression that Latin ethnicity doesn’t include Spain. You truly can’t be more Latin that Spain. Every country on the planet who speaks a derivative of the Spanish language owes its Latin heritage to the country of Espanã...
@@andrewlambert7464 Hello Andrew. I little knowledge is dangerous tool. The slap strum is an intrigral part of flamenco, this has been developed into the precusive style commonly associated with south america. Also latin is associated with Italy not Spain! The term latin in relation to Spanish indicates that Spanish is considered a derivative of the latin language, the use in relation to latin america is a recognition of the influence of Europeans ( predominantly Spanish) your understanding is limited maybe it's an American thing.
We saw Rodrigo y Gabriela at the Hollywood Bowl together with the LA Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. As overwhelming as this short video was, you all MUST find a way to attend one of their concerts IN PERSON (now that Covid restrictions might be loosening). Prepare to be blown away!
I'm with my "brother of the sticks"! I agree and concur 100% That young lady is unreal and I understand she developed the style completely herself. And I have heard her being melodic on the guitar as well as insanely percussive. I'm amazed that her fingers/hands are just flesh and bone!!!! I have been playing kit since 1962 and I am amazed every time I hear them.
And the fact that she is on the same level as her husbands playing abilities, and then just added a completely different level of percussion to the instrument, IMO takes their music to a level that they wouldn’t be able to achieve on their own.
The first time I heard them, I could not believe there was no percussionist...I mean other than Gabriela, of course. Then you realize that they don't need another percussionist. Insanely talented!
Very unique sound. It sounds like it has various genre's mixed together to make a nice sound. It's like they mixed Tejano, Classic Rock, Modern Metal style riffs with a Bluegrass pace. Very talented musicians.
I have never seen a bad performance by Rodrigo y Gabriela, always spectacular. As far as I,m concerned they created their own genre of music. They said they had to invent their own percussion because they couldn't afford a drummer while playing as street musicians in Dublin. In an interview they where really beautiful down to earth people.
They are a couple who define and yet exceed the term of amazement! May God grant them health, happiness and prosperity for the joy they share with millions. Potty Mouth Mike, San Antonio, Texas
They play music together as if they were in the act of creating a being, with all of the passion and emotion, the physical exertions that go along with that act. I do not say that to be crude or disrespectful; just the opposite. What they create is beautiful to behold.
"Electrifying" is simply the best way to explain this video! The way they're strumming, how are there no broken guitar strings?! Haha, very nice job, guys! I'm glad I was able to watch this video.
+TEDMED They had their own trash metal band called "Tierra Acida" before they started with this kind of music. You can hear their metal background. th-cam.com/video/YzGR2N5GWbA/w-d-xo.html
Their energy is hard to conceive of! And there unison is virtually perfect! These two performing together are a wonder to behold!
5 years later and this song still gives me goosebumps, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
That's what the result of ten thousand hours of practice looks like!
Historically speaking, using the guitar body as a multifaceted percussion section is wholly a Latin creation. She is a true impresario of her heritage with her level of artistry...
its still pyly afticaia
I always thought it was a Spanish flamenco thing , which was exported to latin America.
Still these two take it to the next level.

That's not historically accurate. Guitarists have been using the guitar body as an instrument, a speaker and a mic forever.

@@manojperumarath8217 ok,
Up until recently. Better?
Swear this is the best guitar piece I've ever heard. Makes you want to take up the guitar.
Flamenco, Classical, Jazz, and Rock influences all rolled into one.
The first time I heard them, I could not believe there was no percussionist...I mean other than Gabriela, of course. Then you realize that they don't need another percussionist.
Insanely talented!
I love how when Rodrigo starts popping off the crowd literally cannot contain their whoops anymore, he is actually controlling them.
No blood on Gabriella's strings!!!! - she must have fingers of iron!!!! Fabulous performance for the duo.
I've been following them since 2005. I saw them live, and was hooked instantly.

These two have been sooo good for years! It makes me happy to see them performing on TED!
Wow! Beautiful movement and rhythm. Their smiles only add to the magic. Excellent.

The two different styles, they compliment each other so well.
that has got to be the most unorthodox way of playing a guitar.
I love it
EVERY ONE of their performances is "ELECTRIFYING" simply put!!!!
Seriously, why would you thumbs down this video?
Even if the tune isn’t for you can you not appreciate their skill, speed and passion at least?
No
freaking liberals
THERE ARE NEVER ENOUGH TIMES TO WATCH RODRIGO Y GABRIELA!
I decided to learn how to play the guitar back in 2016 because of this video. What a journey it’s been…

Shredding on classical guitars...I like it!!

I know exactly what you meen ☆☆☆
These two are phenomenal! Thanks for sharing!
Gabriella’s right hand technique is outstanding!.
It is beyond fantastic, the dexterity of this woman is out of this world!
her rhythm style is extremely impressive.
Abeltensor i personally think she’s better than Hendrix.
@@scottlevin3966 I'd say he play competely different instruments. Might as well compare a pianist. But I'd put her in the same teir as Hendrix.
"Electrifying" is simply the best way to explain this video! The way they're strumming, how are there no broken guitar strings?! Haha, very nice job, guys! I'm glad I was able to watch this video.
Because guitar strings have improved!
Truly one of the most unique and incredible acts in music right now.
What did I just listen to? I feel like I am hearing music for the first time!
They don't even look at each other. Pure flow states
I saw these two live in San Francisco. Fantastic show!

These two are FN AMAZING!
They do play Metallica covers.
TEDMED They actually play with Robert Trujillo from Metallica on a couple of live show s. They do Orion with him. They even play a cover of one.
They have a metallica cover on one of their albums. Pretty neat stuff.
@@alanalanis2257 They seem to play a riff from Orion on this video. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/8UPHFjHvGvY/w-d-xo.html
