Hmmm, I certainly would have overpaid for the rough. I think I would have gone to $20-$30 a carat. But I haven't been buying any for a while so a bit out of touch. And I see what you mean about it being a bit tricky cutting. I thought it looked straightforward enough, but as you went through it I was thinking "Oh geez, definitely not as straightforward as I thought!". So I would have come away from it with a very nice looking stone, but thinking "Hmmm, not what I thought it was going to be". But that's the game, is it not? Still a lovely stone. 👌 Also, very nice looking slabs! Do you have some with the colour cut out? Glad to hear the cut wasn't TOO bad. Thanks for sharing the updates and we love you sharing your opal journey. We all appreciate it. And the wildlife, we love the wildlife videos too! 😁🦎🦘🦆😆
Haha, the "wispy sand blobs". I've got a whole jar of stuff like that labeled "carve". Beautiful color but, I seem to only get very small stones. I noticed the color bars dip, curve, and wave all through also. Some I even thought I'd try a treat on but, worried it will just highlight the wispy sand spots.
f'n the world of electronics has always been a love/hate relationship with me. i gave up on the idea of consistently being notified whenever a TH-cam channel i subscribe to has a new posting. so, i have developed a habit from time to time, scrolling thru the list of channels that i've subscribed to, looking for a brightly colored dot (which to me indicates that particular channel has a new posting, but i can't say if that is actually true or not. however, my experience has led me to this conclusion). it has been several weeks without seeing this indicator for your channel Phil, tonight was no exception. kinda can't sleep, i decided to look for some opal content. as i enjoy your thoroughness that you put in your content i selected your channel thinking to scroll to an older post that i haven't seen. instead, i see that i haven't seen (or been notified of) your 2 latest videos!?!? f'n the world of electronics. when you showed the smaller oval that you had chose to cut, the color seemed bright across the stone. so, was the cloudiness the result of curving the dome changing refraction, or as i'm not too sure what you meant by potch between color bars (if i heard you correctly) was the reason for the cloudiness? by the tone of your voice it gave me the impression that you were less than thrilled with your result. seemed like a decently thick stone with the color that i could see having bright flashes of a fairly wide spectrum. as always, thank you for sharing your journey! 🍻 ✌️🐝➕
G’day Bones, I get the same with my subscriptions, TH-cam picks what notifications I get 🤣. Unfortunately with the stone in this video, the better colour was near the surface that had to be ground away, and yes there’s was a slight potch issue causing the cloudiness. It’s still a nice stone, I did have higher hopes for it though. 🤪👍
Please 🙏 don't fast forward the polishing and fast forward the talking cos you got it back the front bro😢you said as you saw but you put it in fast forwardan so no i didn't see it 😢
Hi phil 👋 good job as always m8 you can only get out of the stone what’s already in it As for how much for 10 CRTS I’m no expert guess 5$ per crt more if it’s cleaner 😀 🪨 👍
Gorgeous cut ,you did that tricky piece proud .thanks Phil

I would say maybe 2-300 dollars for that piece, rough. I guess I would have overspent a lot. Oh well, live and learn.
I knew something was wrong. I was gonna ask on your last video, but I thought it was too nosy.😂 Get better soon.
still a nice stone
I would have thought as rough $15 a carat, do I assume filming and not releasing may mean rocks are being found. Let’s hope so.
Gday mate
G’day Kayne, how are you? 🤪👍
