    Fun facts:
    1. this was one of the first viral videos on TH-cam, and it pretty much cementified Ok Go’s promotional strategy: making fun music and doing insanely committed music videos for every song. It is, however, not their first video to do viral- that would be A Million Ways.
-speaking of, they don’t dance on treadmills at their concerts, however sometimes they do the choreography for A Million Ways the way it was in its video, and obviously they have to lip-sync when they do.
    2. the budget for this video was pretty much just the money to buy these treadmills and that’s pretty much it. And they got a lot of that money back by re-selling them because there was nobody in the area who’d rent a treadmill. And I mean, realistically, who would? There’s really no market for that.
    3. this video reappears on their video for This Too Shall Pass, toward the end, on an old tv that gets smashed with a sledgehammer right after along with a bunch of others which you can also see in the background. Speaking of, watch that video too, possibly both versions of it.
Actually, watch all of them. I recommend Upside Down & Inside Out, Needing/Getting, White Knuckles, I Won’t Let You Down, Obsession, The One Moment, The Writing’s on The Wall, End Love… these are the ones I can come up with off the top of my head. Out of those that aren’t made from stitched together shots (mainly The One Moment) or stop-motion (End Love and Obsession), they are ALL filmed in one shot. Which is insane considering how complex and full of variables they can be.
These guys cracked the code for making incredible music videos that, honestly, are classics at this point. Maybe only Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel can somewhat get close to their level of insanity in music videos.
    4. lead singer Damian Kulash also co-directed a movie with his wife, which released on July of this year (The Beanie Bubble with Zach Galifianakis, on Apple TV+).
    5. the guy doing the lip-sync in this video isn’t the lead singer by the way. That’s Tim Nordwind and he plays bass, usually.
    6. the lead guitar player for the band’s second job is app development, he worked on two apps who went up to #1 on the Apple App Store, and he also coded an app specifically for an event that’s here on TH-cam where the audience could participate to performing Needing/Getting by stomping their feet and touching notes on their phones on cue.
    7. Dan, the drummer, is also a producer for other bands (kind of like what Mike Shinoda does these days). They all have side-gigs, basically.
    8. Their side-project, as a band, is Ok Go Sandbox, which provides free resources for schools and parents to help kids unleash their creativity. 4 different versions of All Together Now were created by kids and fans all around the world, with artwork made by some of them too + footage of them singing and playing, which was all directed and managed by Sandbox. It’s really nice and cute. The original video for All Together Now is also pretty simple for Ok Go’s standards, but also very touching.
    9. they did a cover for a Muppets cover album, they were picked to cover the main theme and shot a video with them too!
I am not sorry for infodumping, by the way. I just love these guys so much.

      OK Go be some bitches!!!
Nah I'm just kidding, sorry homie, I've actually been a huge OK Go fan for.... fuck.... several years, since I was in high school literally 12 years ago. I love 'em.
Sounds like you do too. Love their creativity, their music, their persistence (esp with the one shot music video genre, which is like... insane???) Anytime I show these videos to my friends who somehow never heard of them, I'm like, bitch this is crazy, and difficult to do, especially in one shot?? Like, do you not understand true art?
Anyway...actually I forgot what I was gonna ask/talk about with you. But you know it's really important. OK Go is my bitches, I love them and have loved them for sooooooo many years. I'll get my head back straight and talk to you sometime b/c you seem like a real one. Peace ✌

And let's not overlook the fact that the whole video was shot in one take.

"Needing/Getting" is their video using a car to play instruments. They also have a TED talk (How to find a wonderful idea/OK GO) where they talk about their creative process.

I feel I should inform you that you are poised to fall into one of the deepest and most awesome rabbit holes on TH-cam.These guys are ridiculously talented and creative as hell. If you want to see another mind blowing OK Go video, I suggest Gravity Is Just a Habit. And for a really sweet and creative one, I suggest All Together Now, which was their response to the COVID pandemic and lockdown.

Please react to Ok Go “I Won’t Let You Down!!” One shot, drone footage, hundreds of extras on motorized chairs (unicycles) in Tokyo Japan! This one’s my favorite of theirs!! Took 50-60 takes to get it in one shot! That is dedication to your craft!!!

When this video came out school talent shows were a flurry recreating this performance... there are many viral video presentations out there of kids dancing on treadmills. I'd say one of the first viral challenges before viral challenges were a thing... Ok Go are the kings of complex "One Take" music videos. They often have several different versions of videos per song using school bands and such to add to the diversity.

This was performed live at the VMA awards the year it was released. They are fantastic in their music and visuals, just like Duran Duran and Bowie

I've seen them perform live on an award show with the treadmills, but don't know if they do it in concert.

    • @codystasiak9834
      @codystasiak9834 ปีที่แล้ว

They didn't have the treadmills at their regular shows, but back in 2005, they were performing the dance in the A Million Ways video. It was kind of funny because, at least when I saw them, they were on a small stage and had to push all the gear against the wall in order to do it.

This is the song that went massively viral and sort of propelled them to stardom. Their music videos just grew and grew in creativity and beauty. This skit went onto be copied in high school talent shows across the nation as well.

The videos you should definitely check out by them would be: End Love, This Too Shall Pass, Upside Down & Inside Out, and I Won't Let You Down (at a bare minimum). If you like Dad jokes, definitely watch Get Over It... if you like perspective tricks, watch The Writing's On The Wall. If you like exploding things, check out Invincible. If you're a fan of slow motion / high FPS video, then watch One Moment. If you like doggos, then White Knuckles. The rabbit hole goes deep with these guys. Strap in!

i came across a past reaction video where you reacted to The Warning 1 year ago with the song Dust to Dust from the Lunario show in 2018 they have since released their 3rd and latest album Error in 2022 and their first under a commercial label and was wondering if you would like to react to them again especially given they are in the process of organizing a European tour in 23 some suggested songs not reacted to from the album would be Disciple, Money, Error, Animosity

    • @spaceknave
      @spaceknave 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Agreed. I remember seeing your reaction to them a while back and they’ve only gotten better. I’m sure you’d like to see what they’ve been up to since Dust to Dust.

"What am I watching right now?"
    Answer:
The result of your record company not believing in your single enough to let you make a music video... and you shoot one anyways...
And it just kind of works out for everyone.
The video really sells this song. When it comes up in my playlist, all i can think of is this goofy video.
Always wondered why they have the drummer, pink shirt, lip syncing the vocals.

Also worth noting is the songwriting. I love the videos, that's what got me into them, but when you start listening more carefully... They have a talent for making a song sound really happy and upbeat, but when you really stop and listen, it's anything but that. This song is a perfect example. Boy meets girl, all good, they have fun, she says play it cool, he says ok, but then he starts getting more serious, gets creepy and weird, she catches on and gets the f* outta there, and he's left dealing with the fact that he has just made the same mistake he has been making for years all over again.
In the same way as Gilbert O'Sullivan did with "Alone Again, Naturally" they can take a story of screwups and failure and heartbreak and self loathing and make it sound like it's in the top 40. They are brilliant at this.
Then they do a song like "Last Leaf" and without any of the usual duality, the simplicity and beauty just blows you away. One of my favourite bands ever.

Find Invincible...Great song by a this band and so much fun. Less of this, where its funny and fun but you're a music teacher so I expected more analysis on how generally tight this band is. They're great!
