    During his last season Kimmo Timonen suffered from two bloodcloths that almost took him out the game. He was not able to play without heavy medication and he had to sign waivers that he knowingly plays with a possible life threatening condition, and without it he was not able to play at all during his final season. He did play a small role but he was in average condition and had been off the game for a good chunk of games. Yes, his final season was bad, but he was still a very good player. Too bad he won the cup after his worst seasons ever.

      And if the Blackhawks would of lost in the finals that year, it would of been thrown in his face and he would of been blamed for it. If you're not healthy, than stay off the ice. He's just lucky his health issues weren't a hindrance.

    • @RoyalMela
      @RoyalMela ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@A_10_PaAng_111 Why would anyone blame him? That Blackhawks team was loaded, and Timonen knew his place. He played very small third pairing minutes while players like Seabrook and Keith played 30 minutes a game. He was never the one to blame. He played very good defensive game throughout the playoffs.
      And show me a player in the playoffs who is not healthy and I'll show you an unicorn.

    Kimmo Timonen produced over 0,5 PPG on average throughout his NHL career. As a defenceman. I promise there are literally hundreds of worse players who have won the cup. He had severe health problems during his last season.
    Edit: You really put him on the same list with the likes of George Parros, Dan Carcillo and Aaron Downey? What an absolute disgrace.

    • @petel7418

      He was captain of Nashville predators and a five time all-star(played in four).
      Signed a six year $37.8m contract with Philly and after that was five seasons philly's best defenseman with players like Chris pronger on the team. Played in five olympics etc..
      .. So must've been great sh*t this guy was smoking while doing this vid.

    Kimmo Timonen was a soldier out there, solid for years with the Preds and Flyers.

    • @anttipulkkinen6196
      @anttipulkkinen6196 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The author of this video did not understand the respect the Hawks had for Timonen. Otherwise, they would not have picked him in the trade. The reason for not taking a lot of blocks was that he never was a blocker and at the last season Timonen had suffered from blood clots. Taking the shots might have been crucial for him. As a player Timonen was a skilled defender being capable to strip the opponent the puck, play the puck and give that opening pass. You did not blame Cale Makar to take blocks in 2022 play offs, on the contrary. In my view Timonen was pretty similar player. Maybe not as skilled, but almost.

    garbage list. this guy has no clue. Basically everyone on this list had long and valuable careers even if their points didn't show it. Timmonen was one of the best all around defencemen to ever play. His final season was ruined by multiple blood clots. Thornton played in the nhl for 15 years for a reason. guys like Thornton and Parros contribute so much more than points. Carcillo went to the cup finals 4 out of 6 playoff appearances. He even scored OT winners in the playoffs.

  • @IRanOutOfPhrases
    @IRanOutOfPhrases ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Yikes. Can't get behind this video if it's gonna open up with Kimmo Timonen. And then its going to call out +/- and how many shots he blocked? These are junk stats. At least get into the more real stuff. Now, I can't say I know what his advanced metrics looked like that playoff season, but you're missing context on the Hawks defensemen on that run. They were beaten up and thinned down dramatically.
    The Hawks were essentially riding on just 4 defensemen in the Cup Final: Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, & Oduya. Roszival would have been there too, but he suffered a season ending injury a few rounds earlier. And in the Final, ODuya also ended up getting injured, although kept playing through it. So basically 3.5 defensemen. Timonen's value was to be as low event as possible. Nope, he didn't produce, and nope, he didn't block many shots. But that's because while he was out there, basically nothing happened either way, which is actually a best case scenario concerning your bottom pair defensemen. He didn't need to be a hero, he just needed to maintain status quo so that his teammates that were being double shifted could catch a breather. His play on the ice was generally fine. I don't think anyone in Chicago was ever claiming he was a problem for the team.
    But on the whole:
    Every team wins a Stanley Cup because of some players and in spite of others. There's not a team in the world to win the Championship that didn't have a player that was just along for the ride, dragging the team down.

  • @iix23
    @iix23 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Hey buddy, don't take this the wrong way but you can't call someone "the worst player" when teams actually pick these players to play a "sandpaper" game. They are role players and every team has a 4th line in the NHL.
    As for Timonen, he averaged over 0.5 point per game through his career. It would be like saying that Raymond Bourque was the worst player to ever win the cup because he wasn't the same 60-80 points player a year in his last season.
    You are not making friends here as either your tittle is wrong or the content behind the tittle is wrong.

  • @SwarmOfLocusts

    Kimmo was awesome and had a track record for being a very reliable dman. He suffered 2 blood clots that season that forced him out of action for a while. Average play for half a season doesn't make him anywhere near the worst.

    Shawn Thornton was a HUGE character guy on that 2011 cup-winning Bruins team. That was a team that went back to the finals again in 2013. When looking solely at numbers, yes, he may well have been the last ranked guy on the roster, but his contribution as a leader in the locker room can’t be understated. He actually really helped Brad Marchand break out, too. Their chemistry on the “Merlot line” (4th) was the talk of the town throughout that entire run!

    Very disrespectful to Kimmo Timonen, who may still be considered an underrated defender in the NHL. Especially when you have the title "the worst players". All players also fulfill a function in a team and if you are now going to throw crap at Chicago, there are better examples to bring, such as Kyle Cumiskey, David Rundblad or Jordan Hendry. They weren't bad but never made a mark in the NHL, they were just along for the ride so to speak.

      It's also fun that Daniel Carcillo is so hated. But during his career that was 429 games long, he managed to win the Stanley Cup twice. In addition, he also played in the finals with the Flyers in 2010 and lost to the team he would later win with.

    The video solidified to me that this creator doesn’t watch/follow hockey and is mostly reciting Wiki bios and stat sheets. Timonen was a great player who soldiered on through serious health issues for one last shot at the Cup AND it paid off! Overall my issue with this video is that you call these players “the worst” but comparative to the expectations/roles they were meant to play that seems a little unfair. The gist of this video is: don’t be a fourth liner or a 6-7 D-man

    To be fair, Shawn Thornton was on a TEAM of enforcers on the Ducks... they also had George Parros, Joe Dipenta, AND Brad May on that team, a very physical squad that season.
    You should have given that "honor" to Aaron Rome, a perennial AHL/NHL call up call down... who played only a single playoff game for the Ducks that run, didn't get his name engraved but still got a ring and got to skate with it on the ice when they won. I remember one of my coaches saying "Aaron Rome isn't getting called up more to the NHL because he's fat and lazy."

    A bit of a stretch to even mention Timonen.
    I accept your logic, basing it on stats, but if you dig deeper you could see he was not bad based on circumstances. As the circumstances were such that it was an achievement to even be on the ice. Bloodcloths at the age of 38-39 (he turned 40 the same year they won) is not a thing to just shake off.
    Therefore I would not count him, but as I said, you are basing this on stats and therefore I can buy it. Statistically it did look quite bad for a Cup-winner

Doesn't mean they're bad and it's certainly can't qualify them as being among the worst?

Blues were a contender while he was there, then he joined the Oilers and instantly made them a contender, then he joined the Ducks and they won a cup with him, and then he joined the Flyers who went to the Finals right away. Yeah, he was one of the top defensemen until he took a stick to the eye. It's a fact.

    Are all of these players names on the cup? You didn’t specify. Did Josh Archibald play in the finals? Players must play at least 41 regular season games or 1 game in the finals in order to have their name engraved. Teams can also petition the league for exceptions. (If a player was close to the requirements or suffered serious injury that prevented them playing)
    Sure, they all get a ring, but players generally don’t state they’ve won the cup unless they have their name engraved on it.

    Prior to watching the video, I'm guessing Sean Avery on the 02 red wings

      Avery didn't have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, though.

    Parros was just there to start shit whenever the coach decided it was necessary!! And he's the guy they put in charge of player safety and suspensions!? No wonder y the suspensions never make sense...theres no consistency at all!?

    This list is extremely questionable, but including Timonen is just fucking disrespectful. Did you do any research past some limited stats?
    Despite playing with life-threatening blood clots that required signing a waiver, his puck moving game was still on point despite his small role as a lower-pair D - a role he fullfilled with no complaints, anything for the team. Timonen was always one of the smartest defensemen in the league, with near perfect positioning which is what allowed him to finish his career at the top. He also brought a calmness with him to the ice, which Hawks players remarked about.
    Additionally, he was a highly respected teammate throughout his career, bringing tons of experience and calmness off the ice. All in all calling Timonen one of the worst players to win the cup is a take so bad that I wouldn't leave this video up. Can't say I could recommend your videos to anyone - a clickbait title to draw people in, just to see you insult a legend. What a disgrace.
