- In this interview, Kathryn Harris, who began reenacting Harriet Tubman in the late 1990s, brings to life the experiences of Tubman as a ‘conductor’ on the antebellum Underground Railroad. Harris details how Tubman risked her life and freedom over a decade, making numerous trips to lead enslaved individuals to freedom in the North. Harris has portrayed Tubman many times for both adult and children’s groups. At the end of the interview, she reflects on how this role has profoundly impacted her life.

Excellent presentation! I am 72 and went to college for 7 years and I learned more listening to this than many semester long classes.
I AGREE 👍💯💯💯
This lady deserves a academy award for this performance. Her knowledge, preparation is unbelievable,
I agree absolutely fascinating.
"Performance"? Well-worded.
@@SmashinAdams i am sorry just exactly what is the correct wording there mr. Bullick?
I mean except the fact that slaves didn’t come from Africa so I don’t know why she said her mom said that 😂 Then again it is acting and most likely a white mans script. She said master too much for me to believe she’s a freed slave 😂
@@AwakenTogether369 but think about it her husband was a free man / slave and still had to pay his master and ask for permission to even see his wife . So yeah she says master a lot for this reason maybe 😏
Just landed on this video by mistake, that was 24 minutes ago I’m hooked! This should be shown in schools everywhere, this is true history!
Same with me! It caught my hearing whilst playing on my phone (her storytelling is captivating)
Me too, hooked!
Me too and you are absolutely right the schools dwell on all the bad and nothing about what she discussed she is so delightful to listen too gid bless her soul

Standing ovation to Kathryn Harris.
I’m a white man 44 years of age raised in Alabama . I literally cried so hard I had to pull over whilst watching the you tube video of Emmit Till . I’ve experienced racism. Both as a ignorant white man and as a minority while building the Equal peace and justice memorial in Montgomery Al. I do my absolute best to bring my 9 yr old up without passing along the ignorance I was surrounded by . Thank you to this actress
Thank you 😊
Well coming from a 40 year old black American woman and knowing my history I just want to thank you for stopping the cycle with your child. Thank you and may God keep you safe well as your family.

i love when she said “where the Good Lord leads you, He will not leave you.”. This is so true.
@U.N.I.T Jesus is good and the story didn’t end with Him dying on the cross. Three days after the crucifixion there was a RESURRECTION. What satan meant for His evil, God turned for His and everyone’s good.

"This is so true".
Can you back that up?
I was absolutely glued to my seat as I watched this video. This should be manditory watching in our schools. Ms. Harris did an incredible job portraying and conveying the history of Harriet Tubman. I felt I went back in time envisioning Ms. Tubmans adventures and way of life. To really know the true history of what happened. Please keep spreading the message. Harriet Tubman is truly an American hero. Thank you, thank you Ms. Harris. I am grateful for your work. You are awesome.
I myself am so shocked at how enthralled l became that l believed it was her in person. When she talked about the years at first l felt stupid that l believed it really was her. A testament to the utmost professionalism l have ever seen in my 70 years. This lady should be honored by the President of the United States and not Biden. One of the previous presidents Biden knows nothing of freedom except how to take it away. We need a new heroine with the conviction of Harriet's Tubman to rise up against Bidens theft of freedom.
Schools that incorporated this method of teaching to their curriculum would send forth into the world a superior class of student educated in far more than history alone. Their enrichment of real history as opposed to movie fiction history is and must be paramount to progress. Those trying to erase history are doing a criminal disservice to future generations. Mankind will not move forward given the path our educators are on now. Kind of akin to slavery where teaching is concerned. I question the lack of fundamentals young people are taught these days. Proity needs too be focused on critical thinking, math, reading, writing and language. Teaching man made genders to satisfy deviants demands is indecent, depraved, and absolutely disgusting. Thank God for homeschooling no matter the cost. Children's education is far to important to leave in the hands of people that err on the side of pedophilia and depravity. Gave them an inch now they want the rest of the world to join their club.
This is what called Critical Race Theory

This was a master piece couldn’t have been any better, I enjoyed every bit of it. Well done Ms. Harris.
It's very different to read about Harriet Tubman and see her come to life through a live reenactor.
Harriet Tubman is a hero to people of all colors in the world.
She definitely was an amazing woman.
I'll have to disagree with you. Not all colors just black people. She was a wanted Black Woman who freed more people than any human being in history.
@@Monique_Love You are wrong. She healed all colors in the Civil War after leading soldiers into battle. They weren't classified as anything but injured. And she was NOT the most in history at all. Not in America, and not if you knew about the country that did it. Not if you knew about Mr. Horse and Mr. Wildcat.
@@leavefollow1698 You are crazy and Wrong she did not like white people are you on crack!!!! Look take yo ass back to the drawing board!!! And what ever education you think you have it's a lie!!!!
@@Monique_Love, I think that for you to disagree is respectful. But you came out of your own name((LOVE)) when you think it is okay to label me as crazy and a junkie. You don't know a lot of details about this era and I can tell because you are claiming that she didn't like people who had the fight in them to be stationmasters. I really don't know where to begin. I really don't. The new Harriet Tubman movie tells you a bit... DR. CLAUD ANDERSON is one of the people that can back up everything I said. I don't know why you feel the need to be angry with someone and TRY to discredit them because you don't agree. Harriet Tubman said it best "I would have freed much more HAD THEY ONLY KNOWN THAT THEY WERE SLAVES." Anything else will be testing my ability to be respectful in this platform, but if you really want to debate the educated men that triples your aggression in wisdom, then you can talk on a Zoom or videoconferencing platform that I can set up. But I don't do well with letting insults go. Your choice. Be blessed.
She deserves an award for her portrayal of Hariette. I enjoyed listening to this. Live free or die. I never knew she went as far as Georgia.

This story is worthy of Steve McQueen making it into a memorable Oscar winning film of bravery, survival, savvy. A huge slice of American history of a slave girls bid for freedom and then helping others to escape. . I love how she noted the word and took it into her vocabulary. Sometimes it isn’t about being “ stupid”, it’s all about resources. I love how she speaks and admire her drive.
Edit : I don’t personally believe this is Harriet Tubman , never said I did. My point was toward how it was represented. That resources can allow people to gain knowledge of course and that some that are considered “ stupid” just don’t have or have been withheld from those resources .. such as the woman she’s pretending to be.

id rather think its a perfect performance by her for noticing words harriot didnt know and how she would be when learning a new word to use or understanding the meaning of a word she didnt know how to use before.

What a wonderful respectful interview. I can’t imagine how completely depressive it must have been to be a slave in those days. As you said Kathryn, one could not be your own person or be allowed to think for yourself, have your own space or any of the freedoms that is humanities birthright.
Harriet was so courageous to have made that leap of faith for freedom, and then to go back and help others escape over the years. She was here for a heavenly purpose, and her legacy is still fulfilling that role.
Great documentary that opens our eyes to the hardships, struggles and fight for freedom amongst slavery in our history. 😇

Love love this woman as actress and I adore Harriet Tubman... especially her version allows me to see the warmth, vision, and resourcefulness of Harriet. What a woman! These are the women we should be speaking about more often and elevating to the kind of praise they actually deserve! Talk about Human Values that touch every sensibility of my soul! Bless you and would love to meet Ms Harris. Wish that were possible of meeting Harriet! Bless you both!

Opps I thought this was Harriet herself...jokes.

Lady Kathryn, you brought Harriet Tubman back to life, you've immortalize her!
The more I go THROUGH, The more I reach her
The more someone else go through, I hope they are HER
@@ruthblack9017 not only is this woman not HT, neither are you or will you ever be.
I am from in the uk and had never heard of Harriet Tubman before so I found this so interesting and quite heartbreaking. But I’ll say this I’ve seen films getting Oscar’s that couldn’t hold a candle to this and the performance this lady give. Harriet Tubman was an angel here on earth and I’m sure the slaves she brought to freedom must have been grateful to her all their lives. I don’t know but I hope she has been recognised with some sort of tribute to this wonderful woman. God bless her. 🙏🏻
I'm from UK I'm 64 and didn't quite have the knowledge that I have now after seeing this. Thankyou
This lady is an absolute inspiration and just shows how against all adversity you can accomplish anything kids these days in school need to learn about this dark time in History and show how backwards some people were to treat their fellow human with such distain and utter contempt this video was an absolute pleasure watching this and learning about her life
Amen 🙏🏾

Hundred percent
Yes! I'm so grateful I happened upon this video. I was so confused because it came up on my TV lol. I had to pull it up on my phone so I could read the comments to learn more. I tell you what, I would've done anything I could to save slaves if I was around back in those days. This woman makes me wish I knew her, I really enjoy spending time with our senior population getting to know them, hearing about their life, learning the things only time and experience can teach. But man, what an amazing, strong, brave and courageous woman Harriet truly was. And such a proud woman. They've hidden and lied about so much of this countries disgraceful history and the actions they took in our recent past. For the I'm extremely thankful to be able to learn about this hero and saviour to so many
Dear Mrs Katherine ❤ thank you mam. It took me 73 years to get this FINE UNDERSTANDING of Harriet Tubman's life, fears, motivations and bravery. OUTSTANDING REPRESENTATION !!! Thank you madam !!!
Harriet, you did some show nuff story telling. Loved your performance. Thanks for bringing her to life.
I stumbled upon this through FB and reading something else. Now I have spent the better part of my Sunday afternoon listening to the interview. It is amazing what Harriet Tubman did as she is the "goat". Kathryn Harris, you yourself, is so talented and what a job that you did. So convincing!! Thank you for such a story!!
I would so proudly name my baby girl Harriet 💗💞 What an AMAZING woman!!!💗🙏💕

" I never run my train off the track." What a woman... I'm just mesmerized.
The actress who portrays Miss Tubman is amazing!!! She made her life come alive!! Bravo!!!!!

This woman is so talented. I am saving this and my children will have to listen to this when they are old enough. We don’t humanize the victims , survivors and heroes of Slavery enough. It’s so wonderful to see this oral
History reenactment of Ms. Harriet Tubman. She is so inspiring . I’ve learned so much from this
I hope to listen to her again and again too. Brilliant!
She is so convincing. An Oscar for that woman!
More like reparation for that woman but you would hate for that to happen.

I look forward to meet
Ms Thurman in the resurrection.
Absolutely
Even though I knew this was a story being retold, there are moments when I am so suspended in my belief, I think she is indeed a slave woman who managed to live into the 21st century.
You think that's 'bad' .. I was actually doing sums in my head trying to figure out how old this amazing Harriet talking to us was! I don't think I 'got it' until she said that her parents were still alive and living with her!
She has an impresive memory, and a solide knowledge about Harriet
I didn’t read the description and don’t know her (yet) since I live in the Netherlands and we learned more about the slave trade Holland was involved in so I was like: wait a minute.. 1847? How? Oooooooo🤦♀️😅😂
You should read the story of Jane Pittman. Shed been born a slave in the US, and lived into the 1960s, eventually passing at the age of 110. There was a movie made about her too, with the late great Cecily Tyson in the lead role. These women are why many of us black women descended directly from those slaves still hold our heads up high.
I shouldn't have to tell you how I knew right you already do too it was pretty simple you just know
My heart is crushed. This is an amazing interview. Oh what an intelligent woman. I dare say very few people are as intelligent, brave, bold living today. If you never saw this, please watch.
I stumbled into this interview. Wow! It was riveting. I actually watched it twice. Well done.
Me too oh wow ,it took my breath away ..
"Then why you have to ask it?", Ballsy isn't she? I like that.

I love this! She did such an excellent reenactment. With this generation doing so much more online learning I wonder if students might be more engaged by watching this rather than having to read about her. I grew up constantly reading and loved learning all I could about the amazing Ms. Tubman.
I wonder if teachers are showing this in their classrooms because they absolutely should be! Maybe this interview AND a reading assignment as well? Young and nerdy me would have been so pumped, lol.
Beautifully presented. ❤

For I am an African American woman that was born in 1961. Before the Good Lord calls on me, I have the full understanding of who Harriet Tubman was & what she did by traveling by way through the Underground Railroad which is not a train underground 🤷🏽♀️😁🙏🏽
She spoke of Roosevelt & Thomas Garret
When reading about them, I didn’t have full understanding of them but listening to her story in detail about year 1800’s of my Ancestors, I have the full knowledge of it all now and I am truly grateful & blessed right now of freedom because of Harriet Tubman as she had & kept her faith in the Lord to get us where we are today.
