  • In this interview, Kathryn Harris, who began reenacting Harriet Tubman in the late 1990s, brings to life the experiences of Tubman as a ‘conductor’ on the antebellum Underground Railroad. Harris details how Tubman risked her life and freedom over a decade, making numerous trips to lead enslaved individuals to freedom in the North. Harris has portrayed Tubman many times for both adult and children’s groups. At the end of the interview, she reflects on how this role has profoundly impacted her life.
For the full interview with Kathryn Harris, including transcripts, an abstract, and donated photos, visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Oral History Website at [goo.gl/XJD6lW](goo.gl/XJD6lW).

I myself am so shocked at how enthralled l became that l believed it was her in person. When she talked about the years at first l felt stupid that l believed it really was her. A testament to the utmost professionalism l have ever seen in my 70 years. This lady should be honored by the President of the United States and not Biden. One of the previous presidents Biden knows nothing of freedom except how to take it away. We need a new heroine with the conviction of Harriet's Tubman to rise up against Bidens theft of freedom.
Schools that incorporated this method of teaching to their curriculum would send forth into the world a superior class of student educated in far more than history alone. Their enrichment of real history as opposed to movie fiction history is and must be paramount to progress. Those trying to erase history are doing a criminal disservice to future generations. Mankind will not move forward given the path our educators are on now. Kind of akin to slavery where teaching is concerned. I question the lack of fundamentals young people are taught these days. Proity needs too be focused on critical thinking, math, reading, writing and language. Teaching man made genders to satisfy deviants demands is indecent, depraved, and absolutely disgusting. Thank God for homeschooling no matter the cost. Children's education is far to important to leave in the hands of people that err on the side of pedophilia and depravity. Gave them an inch now they want the rest of the world to join their club.

You don't know a lot of details about this era and I can tell because you are claiming that she didn't like people who had the fight in them to be stationmasters. I really don't know where to begin. I really don't. The new Harriet Tubman movie tells you a bit... DR. CLAUD ANDERSON is one of the people that can back up everything I said. I don't know why you feel the need to be angry with someone and TRY to discredit them because you don't agree. Harriet Tubman said it best "I would have freed much more HAD THEY ONLY KNOWN THAT THEY WERE SLAVES." I love how she noted the word and took it into her vocabulary. Sometimes it isn’t about being “ stupid”, it’s all about resources. I love how she speaks and admire her drive.
Edit : I don’t personally believe this is Harriet Tubman , never said I did. My point was toward how it was represented. That resources can allow people to gain knowledge of course and that some that are considered “ stupid” just don’t have or have been withheld from those resources .. such as the woman she’s pretending to be.

What a wonderful respectful interview. I can’t imagine how completely depressive it must have been to be a slave in those days. As you said Kathryn, one could not be your own person or be allowed to think for yourself, have your own space or any of the freedoms that is humanities birthright.
Harriet was so courageous to have made that leap of faith for freedom, and then to go back and help others escape over the years. She was here for a heavenly purpose, and her legacy is still fulfilling that role.
Great documentary that opens our eyes to the hardships, struggles and fight for freedom amongst slavery in our history. 😇

Im born a Mexican American, history of slavery has always been important in my mind to be told and known to aIl. I think is specially important that young people of all color and race learn the struggle, pain, endurance of slaved humans. History of this sort is needed. I love how this talented lady acted the role of Harriet Tubman. Congrats to all that made this possible.

But I’ll say this I’ve seen films getting Oscar’s that couldn’t hold a candle to this and the performance this lady give. I tell you what, I would've done anything I could to save slaves if I was around back in those days. This woman makes me wish I knew her, I really enjoy spending time with our senior population getting to know them, hearing about their life, learning the things only time and experience can teach. But man, what an amazing, strong, brave and courageous woman Harriet truly was. And such a proud woman. They've hidden and lied about so much of this countries disgraceful history and the actions they took in our recent past. For the I'm extremely thankful to be able to learn about this hero and saviour to so many

You should read the story of Jane Pittman. Shed been born a slave in the US, and lived into the 1960s, eventually passing at the age of 110. There was a movie made about her too, with the late great Cecily Tyson in the lead role. These women are why many of us black women descended directly from those slaves still hold our heads up high.

For I am an African American woman that was born in 1961. Before the Good Lord calls on me, I have the full understanding of who Harriet Tubman was & what she did by traveling by way through the Underground Railroad which is not a train underground 🤷🏽‍♀️😁🙏🏽
She spoke of Roosevelt & Thomas Garret
When reading about them, I didn’t have full understanding of them but listening to her story in detail about year 1800’s of my Ancestors, I have the full knowledge of it all now and I am truly grateful & blessed right now of freedom because of Harriet Tubman as she had & kept her faith in the Lord to get us where we are today.
For this I have a very smiling ❤️ of being born Freed & May all my Ancestors in my family continue to RIP as well as Strong Beautiful Smart Harriet Tubman 💋🙏🏽😁
