      Great. Glad that you like it. Did you get this one or the one like it that has bluetooth? I have one of each and both are great. The bluetooth one has a few more features but nothing that makes it any better then the one without. That price would indicate none bluetooth and is one great deal....

    answered it by buying one, cheap parts and corners cut- the tanks don't leak with correct sizes hole in my case spigot 7.2mm so a 7mm drill bit- screw from outside in first and the fish it through. tighten insert and fit nut etc and tighten holding spigot.
    the main issue is the handed of the heater means exhaust and inlet wrong handed for case. bought it for the bluetooth controller

      Glad you have one. They are nice heaters... Cool looking too. In the video mine dripped a little until I secured the nut on the outlet tube. After my initial tightening it was a while before a drip appeared. Resecuring it felt like it had seated the 2 "O" rings. A second tightening was needed and it has been perfect since. It was also drilled right where the seam is located and I had thought that I had trimmed it smooth in that area but might not have gotten it as smooth as I thought. Either way, it works. I did receive a second heater with the Bluetooth in it. I installed the fuel fitting from the top with a rise tube. I really like the fact that with Bluetooth you can program it to fully turn off when temp has been reached and then it will come back one by restarting when ti drops 2*C below the set temp. Hope that you get a lot of use out of yours. Thanks for the comments.

      Thank you for your question. As for operating on its side, I know that the base unit can be operated on its side as long as the glow plug is in the up position. I would imagine that this can be set on its side too, but the fuel tank will need to be positioned so that the fill will be in the up position and not leak.

    Some have said that instead of drilling into the bottom of the fuel container, you should drill into the top to avoid leaks like you experienced. My question is, does the tap (or whatever it’s call) that screws into the container have a end on the inside that a tube can be attached to (so you can still draw from the bottom of the tank)?

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with your statement on drawing from the top of the unit. Unfortunately, the inlet on the unit's case is down low and the length of hose needed to run from a top draw point just worried me as I wanted as little fuel line exposier as possible. The fitting is one piece and has a round edge about the size of a dime (actually a little smaller) and has a flat surface that the "O" ring seal sits on. The thickness is about 1/4 or so. This will keep you from drawing every drop of fuel avoiding some of the deposits. The shaft portion has a threaded section that will go through the tank where you drill an 8MM hole (5/16) and place another "O" ring on the outside to sandwhich them together. You tighten the supplied nut that also has an portion that is indented to accomadate the "O" ring. Then the shaft continues with the nipple for the hose. In my case I did not over tighten as that would not be wise. I secured it and let it settle. Then retightened. I fould that a second "setting" of the "O" ring was needed and retightened again. It has been fine since. I did place the unit in a room in my house with an empty tank. About a week ot two later I could detect an odor of diesel. Had I placed the outlet tube on the top and could not spot a possible leak point that odor might have been worse. The odor was throught the vent on the cap as it does not seal in the fumes very well. Weak design. Hope that this answers your question.

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thanks for commenting.. This is a very nice unit. If you are considering a purchase be sure to check the Amazon price against the hcalory.com site. They are also available on Bangood's site. I have seen the prices vary a lot. At my last look, it was around $200 with a coupon on Amazon. That may be gone now, but may also return so keep an eye open.
      As to the odor. I am using an extended ducting and for a short period of time it has a small odor of plastic. If you are experiencing a diesel type of odor be sure to check and make sure that your exhause is not fouling the intake air that is blown into the area where you are residing. Also make sure that the silicone seals for the fuel inlet and glow plug as not loose or cracked. Also, look for gasket leaks on the heat exchange unit. These are conditions that can occur with any of these heaters. I have two heaters that I am using and neither has produced any odor once the ducting has burned itself in. Lastly, ALWAYS use a CO meter. They are inexpensive and are MUST have. Hope this is helpful.

  • @vin9976
    @vin9976 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Bob, how about just leaving the combustion intake to happen INSIDE of the case? Like just run the short hose/plastic muffler right inside there? There seems to be a lot of venting on the case. You think that would work? Should work make it a bit more portable.

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure it would work. I actualy gave it some thought too. But with the filter assembly in there something would need to be left outside as room is tight. I suppose moving a few things around would do the trick and fit most everything in there. It doesn't really bother me where it is.

      @@bobamos3628 The pump has to be remounted anyways as its horizontal which allows the cavitation bubbles to screw up the system. I mounted mine near the bottom at about 30d and hung it from a zip tie off the backwall. I mounted a really nice blue fuel filter with water collection in it as well (diesel is wonky stuff). This leave a lot of room for the intake pipe to go straight down into the new 25mm wire mesh air filter I put on. I also swapped out the vinyl fuel lines with rigid white fuel (2mm ID, 5mm OD) and attached it all with jubille clamps over 3/16th black fuel line from hardware store.

The unit will only be 3-4ft away from camper but I need the controls and thermostat inside camper to control it and keep it not too hot while sleeping. Yes, that extension cable that I refered to in the video will let you extend the thermostat 10 to 20 feet if you want. There is a link down below the video with the link to the ready made harness. You can just unplug the controler, insert this cable between the two and then place the control where you need it. Now, this extend cable is for the control without the bluetooth. If you have the bluetooth controler I am not sure that this will fit. The bluetooth control will have a round dial to control the temperature. Click on the "show more" button. The extension cable can be found here.. @@bobamos3628 hi Bob, do you think running these heaters from the outside of a tent/camper in winter? I'm worried about them heating very cold air from outside rather than typical setup where they are mounted inside of a vehicle. I need to camp at ski resorts where it can be 10d F at times.

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vin9976 We have used one of ours units a number of times out in the very cold. Our vintage trailer is 7x9x6 and we use outside air running through and into the trailer. It almost gets too hot in there so we vent some of the heat out through the roof vent or oposite side window. This is out "thermostat" of sorts. In a tent it would be the same. Unless the tent is massive this unit will easily handle the demands. But, if you find that you need to recirculate the inside air over the heat exchanger of this unit, you can always duct the inside through the intake. The unit we have been using is a side by side 5kw and we run it on low almost all of the time. When it gets massivly cold, and it does in some of the places we camp, we have had to hit H2 but never any more than that under normal use. Hope that this answers your question.

It never reaches anything worth detecting. Has yet to set off the CO meter. Oh believe me, it works very well in the cold.. I am using an all in one side by side unit. The ducting shown in the video is for my other unit and it is 4" ducting but looks to be the same as this in build. I will be purchasing this shortly. By the way, I like to use the dusting that comes with the unit at the outlet and then slide the additional ducting over it. This way I am sure that that the area with the highest heat will be using what was supplied. This cuts down on any odors from the newer ducting. Thanks for the comment.

    Unfortunately, the link sez "currently out of stock" with no idea of when it'll be back in stock. That being said, I'm not liking the plastic case. HCalory has an almost completely portable unit, single outlet, internal tank, in a metal case for much less right now.

This toolbox case unit will be used when we use our truck bed tent. If you are not happy with the plastic case then the all in one metal case is right for you.. That is why I said in the video that at $200 it would be fine but any more and the value might not be best. Personally, I have an all in one that costs about $115 and it works just as good as this one does. So, if I had to choose between the two, the metal side by side all in one that I also have would be my choice. It just seems tougher. Fortunately, I got this one for free and had a chance to share it with everyone. It is a cool looking design and I can understand some guys liking it so it does have a place on the market. Their sales numbers support this too, so it is not really a joke. People are getting what they want and the sellers are making money. A win/win combination in my eyes. Thanks for your input.
