One of the arguments against recording the charts off Radio Tees was the adverts - also the presenter would talk all over the intro and fade them out prematurely - and they were compiled on the day, so you didn't know in advance where your favourites would be! A lot of people liked to record the charts off the radio - but only the ones they liked! Just over two years later, the Network Chart was broadcast on ILR - the Solid Gold Sunday chart was compiled by Record Business magazine! From some time in 1986, Radio Tees and Radio Cleveland swapped frequencies on FM - by January 1989, Radio Tees became TFM!
Fantastic piece of ILR nostalgia, with a typically cheesy DJ intro (at 13'20") to the song 'Classic' by Adrian Gurvitz. The first link mentions a later programme with 'Peter Matthews' (real name Peter Paterson) who was a phenomenally talented jock. I had the pleasure of meeting him whilst helping out at Chiltern Radio a couple of years later. Unfortunately he got into trouble whilst at Chiltern and was convicted for various offences, which was widely covered in the local press at the time. Station bosses were furious as they had just taken out expensive advertising with a bus company which saw double decker busses emblazened with pics of Chiltern presenters (including Peter) and the logo all over it.
