Is it the part about how Maximum killed TFH by laying off their staff and releasing two incomplete characters? Man, it still makes me sad hearing how they did Mane6 dirty...
Thank you! When people talk about the impact of DLC characters i rarely see stuff like this get brought up, so i thought it would be fun to cover. Glad you enjoyed it!
Well, Steve _did_ have a block setup that would teleport your opponent to the bottom blast zone on launch, iirc. And a glitch that allows him to completely ignore an attack if you time it right. I saw a clip of Steve punishing Shulk for landing an f-smash (hopefully that one is also patched, but I don’t actually know).
Nidra's night stance tech just seems to carry the used properties of the opponent's previous combo that hit her to the next. So if the opponent does a groundbounce on her and then she does her special wakeup tech on the soft knockdown at the end of that combo and they combo her afterwards, they will still be locked out of the groundbounce but they will be able to do a wallsplat if they haven't done that yet. I think tech rolls and wakeups are where those flags are reset and her special tech option just bypasses that entirely.
ohh, this makes a lot of sense! I was interpreting it as just draining those combo states, if it just skips where those states are reset that would definitely cause the issue lol
Side note, the thumbnail is *really* clever, it literally explains every problem without outright spoiling the video, I had to give it a double-take lol
I really wanted to see Baihe remade in M.U.G.E.N. in all her broken glory just to see if she can trivialize the Mortal Kombat bosses, General from Kaiser Knuckle and Magaki from KOF XI.
@@TailsClock I'd rather have the broken version as an SNK Boss. A fixed version is good for Human Player use, like how Rare Akuma can detect if a CPU or a Human is in control, which only affects the humorous messages found in Debug Mode ("You better be sure it's in Watch Mode!" for CPUs and "Oh, a Human? Well, have fun then." for Human Players). For Baihe, She would be in her broken version under CPU control and in a fixed version under Human control, meaning janky stuff like the Seige Cannon spam can only be performed by the CPU, but not by Human Players.
I'm in this video :o! Good watch!! Nidra still has another bug with her Lv 2 where if she does it on block, she can become immune to projectiles. I still remember running into this by accident and seeing icicles and fireballs go right through her. She is tournament legal, but doing her Lv 2 on block is outright banned because of this bug.
There is one character that is missing from the list but is notoriously broken in the "making the game unplayable" way: Spinal. A few moves of his LITERALLY broke the game so bad that it was crashing the game. It reached a point that he was either banned from tournament play, or if someone still picked him, they were literally taking the risk that if they were causing a crash, it would result in a match or a round loss. The reason why it resulted in a loss instead of a draw/reset is because the bug was well-known AND a very good player could actually abuse it to "reset" a losing match. Later on, this was fixed but there are still videos about this issue or even "crashing" tournament plays too.
@@Gwinnmusic Oh wow, I had no idea! To be honest I didn't even realize that Fulgore and Spinal were DLC. This is fascinating, I'll definitely look into this if I end up doing a follow up video. thanks for sharing!
Nidra is now allowed in most tournaments, but in some there's a rule you can't use her Level 2, otherwise you get insta dq. Baihe is banned from literally every tournament, which is a big shame that she is in her current state, because she is arguably a really cool character that's fun to play, all her bugs aside. Maybe a miracle will happen one day and these characters will get fixed up
The fighting herds situation reminds me of Nick 2 to a lesser extent. An ambitious fighting game that fired a LOT of devs, and you could tell with the DLC. The first three were fine, but then iroh came out. A character who has a move that heals for 15 percent and can be canceled into a disjointed mover or a counter, and when it finishes, it transforms him into a MONSTER, with his already broken fire breath now hitting from across the stage with no size decreasing overtime, and his counter, which could already be an attack, a command grab, and a fireball that's also a mobility tool, you can now just activate any of these whenever you want, even if the opponent didn't hit you. It is a counter that not only can you trigger the effects of, but it can be a burst tool, command grab, AND a projectile. Now he's not the most OP character to exist because some genius decided to give Korra, a character who was already top 3 in the game, a whole lot of unnecessary buffs that would make nigel jump up 20 tiers, but it still is evident that the only reason this character is the way he is is due to obviously not being playtested due to all the layoffs.
@@AwesomeMooseSmile Yeah, I've been following the NASB 2 situation, and while I don't think it's as bad, there's definitely a lot of similarities. Iroh didn't get any promotional material until AFTER he released which is just crazy.
Let’s also not forget day 1 Steve bugs in Smash Ultimate. Bro was literally making people fall straight through the stage just for walking into a single block. He mechanically broke the game for a week on release.
People don't talk about mewtwo because... Well you can't really encounter him in a tournament. I think steve would be a better example, his blocks mess with the game's logic, sometimes causing recovering characters to just teleport below the stage instead of grabbing the edge. And yes, it can be performed in a tournament
This is funny (sad) because this can apply to both Them's Fightin' Herds AND Skullgirls, lol. Obviously Skullgirls has it a little better than TFH but, still a crummy situation
I think it’s worth mentioning that Steve is not only a top tier in Smash Ultimate but he came out with many bugs that made the game act in very strange ways with many of them being around today
Poor Them's Fightin Herds devs. They did not seem to be let go. I have no idea what happened behind the scenes, but if they were doing their jobs and we overall good and professional people, then they shouldn't have been let go.
In brawl stars, things like this happened. There was a character who upon using their special attack would gain ridiculous amounts of HP and take equally ridiculous amounts of damage simultaneously (without being hit), she would become unable to attack or even be attacked, then the SERVERS would crash, not the game.
A lot of people don’t know this fighting game, but it’s a small mobile/PC platform fighter called “Flash Party”(pretty good game). They released a character called Tarara that was a DLC crossover from another app. If there was a tier list she is probably in +S
12:19 this reminds of a specific bug in VRast! that the Trooper style has, where they can use a move that rises them in the air, but because you can do it infinitely, it can let you stall the game kinda
I think you could make an entire video on just Steve's bugs. Like the sheer amount of stuff that isn't supposed to happen. And yet does. Like a fucking hit stun cancel. It's fucking bombastic.
@@EeveeShadowBacon that's not a brawl tech. That's literaly just a mechanic. Air tech. It's common in many games. Where you can't use air défensives option till you air dodge or attack.
I saw The World in thr thumbnail snd got really excited because I thought someone was talking about my niche guilty pleasure fighting game, JJBA All Star Battle R! Great video though! Seriously awesome stuff!
14:56 That's what I was thinking too. I too would give money for a second kickstarter, but I think a lot of the Devs have moved to greener pastures and even if they did get the rights back, I don't think they'll do much with it because they have other things to do (I'm not sure about this hypothetical though). And even then I don't think MaxEnt would have a change of heart and give the IP without a cost (money). Anyhow, cool video! I didn't know Mewtwo had a game breaking bug.
Yeah, I'd love to see them get it back and I hope all the devs are doing well. I don't expect it to happen for a while but I feel like there's a miniscule chance that Maximum sells or relinquishes the IP because of the anguish it's caused them.
Basically just ever ssbu character. For an ultimate game, I'm surprised it has broken dlc. And these dlc needs to be bought through a specific store that really sucks. Like honestly you can't catch me buying a game on eshop, that is one strand away from being an unfiltered steam store 😂
I thought it was mostly just _double_ Cloud banned at doubles tournaments, but after a wee bit of research, it seems like I was mistaken. Either way, it seems to be the only time that a Smash character got banned in a way that stuck.
I just want to start this comment by daying that the Guilty Gear Strive community is really funny with the steam tags. One of my favorite things is that on steam, Happy Chaos's DLC page steam tags include Single player and Souls-like. He's not that bad now, but it's so funny that he got those tags from being so good for a while. He also has First-person shooter. Goldlewis's steam page is much funnier with American, Action, Cute, Sexual Content, and H*****. It's so fucking funny. A lot of the guilty gear steam pages also have psychological horror. I'm trying to remember if Bedman? has LGBTQ+ or not. Goldlewis does, but that makes a tiny amount of sense based on his interaction with Bridget in the arcade mode.
