Great review! I’ve just tried this for the first time last week and really love it. It definitely rewards multiple plays, but is very easy to teach. Which I appreciate since I am almost always the teacher! The designers other games The Quartermaster General series also has some really streamlined play but weighty decisions.
Originally was passing on this but I think I’ll be buying now. Love the art. Love War of the Ring but don’t get it out enough because of the set up time. This is quick. Also starting to enjoy the gameplay I’ve seen.
Oh man, I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it. This means there's a good chance I will as well. I really love the theme, and I own the original War of the Ring, but that's impossible to table. I want to play it so much, and this card version might make it possible now. I'm happy that it seems like a good game.
@@BoardGamingRamblings the original is great! It’s an amazing book to boardgame adaptation. It captures that world beautifully. But yea, it’s an event game.
@@shinjialI think yall would both be surprised how fast you can play war of the ring the board game once you know it, I’ve played like 6-10 times and now me and my brother only take 60-90 minutes max
It goes on that pile of games I enjoy but will never get to play. Theme, great, mechanics, solid. But you want that balance with all the factions, people who know the decks, what can come up, what can get in your way. Two players actually makes it easier for that reason but I'm usually forced to play it with 4 players which means more newbies, though the 3 player variant has worked OK as I can be the one with two decks vs the new players. I would love a solo mode in this, control one faction, AI controls other.
Really enjoyed my first play. Not really related to the full board game to be honest, other than theme, but it appears to have great depth. Played it as 2p. Very good, and I can see how at 4p it’ll be just as good or better!
