Wow kudos on the informational video that taught us absolutely nothing, what special tools are needed? What are the torque specs? Where are the timing marks? Is it vvt and require special cam holders? Any hidden wires? Anything we need to know or look out for? Any common volvo v8 problems we can fix while its out. You know useful information.
There's already some useful information in the video. U-Fix-it doesn't owe you anything nor are they under obligation to produce and provide you with free DIY manuals.
I don't need a teardown on my 07, but I'd like to replace the gaskets because I just rolled over 200k ...And I briefly overheated when my A/C compressor grenaded, so I want to take a good look as well.
Hi. I got parts from Tascaparts.com. I replaced the shaft and both bearings (31258067 Balance Shaft: USD 196). Plus I did the drain modification on my engine (it was an early version without the moisture drain. You'll need one headgasket + new bolts and all the front cover gaskets and seals too. It is a time consuming but relatively simple job.
Did you have enough space to remove the crankshaft pulley? How did you remove the catalyst 1 to remove the cylinder head? I have to do the same operation this week 🫣
songs11353 hi. This was done on my private car and is not a service we offer. It takes about 15 hours so a car workshop would charge quite a lot for it.
um my xc90 has to replace its oil pump gasket ( litterally the last thing to take off on the front of the engine. Estimates are 5k to R & R the gasket with 26 + hours service. Drive off into the sunset of another dealership to fix more stuff. Steering wheel assembly ( recall) ALternator Transaxle now oil pump . what a piece of junk this thing is and I paid 75k for it. RIPOFFFFFFFFFFFF. 65K miles too.
That's just how it is with cars. No matter which company or model you buy, there will always be some which break down way before they should, and some that last longer than they should. I've never owned one of the new generation Volvos, but I formerly owned a 2006 XC90 V8 ocean race edition that I bought new and sold at 335K miles ten years later. Never needed repairs outside of the expected maintenance, the original powertrain was completely intact when I sold it. Quite frankly you seem new to car ownership so here's some advice. 1: cars are big pits that you throw money into. Very rarely will you ever profit from owning a car. New cars depreciate quickly, and you will lose far more than that repair bill from depreciation alone within the first 2 years owning it. 2: get used to issues. They're almost always going to happen, no matter what you buy. Side note: You either got ripped off hard by the shop you brought your Volvo to, have more repairs that need to be done than just the gasket, or have completely made this up. The Oil pump gasket repairs generally won't cost more than 1.5k. :/ Do some research.
Unless you had more work done than replacing the oil pump gasket while the engine was out your shop ripped you off, most likely reason for this is they don't want to do that job so will make a ludicrous price to make you go away.
Man........ Thank you for THE help with the info.i have just Done it My self and this was ha grate help for me

Where did you get your tool to press/the balance shaft?
Made it out of some scrap steel plate and long bolts I purchased from the hardware store!

Looks like a future project for my XC90, but with no lift.
Bro, you don't need to take the engine out for that repair. I have done them inside the car.

How much to pay you to do it again? 😄
how many Miles has this engine ?
You can expect this trouble on 150...200K miles on engines before 2006 (if I did not mistake)
great music by the way
That is all😂
How much do you charge for such job ?

What caused the failure in the first place? How many miles had the engine done, was it serviced at regular intervals etc?
what he said ^^
