    A month ago I was watching this wondering if I could build an ebike out of a nice doner bike. With some tools and many JNO vids it’s done with the upside down battery mount just like this one. Really fun project and even more fun to ride. Thank you for all the content

    I'm in the process of building a BBS02 e-bike out of a used mountain bike. It is a hard tail bike but it is a small frame so there isn't much room between the bars. I was planning on trying to install a rack and mount a battery on that but I am really liking your bottom tube method here.

    Very nice. I did a similar build. Looks very similar to my Santa Cruz Superlight with an upgraded BBS02. 52v. I was able to fit the battery inside the superlight frame it looks better but would have a higher COG than yours. I can ride it on the roads but also on the trails just like yours! In testing I could get it to 45mph with a 52t bling ring on super sport road tires (they look like super bike tire tread). The whole thing weighs 42lb. So easy to toss around. So intense. I love it but I just gave it a complete overhaul due to wear and tear. It will be new again for my birthday. Good stuff!

    Nice looking bike, you should do a "Battery Mount Video" for the newbies. A close-up shot of the flipped battery mount would have been nice.
    The cheaper Hainan Battery packs have limited mounting range so when you mount it to the Water Bottle screws in downtube - people mount the battery upside down so it fits where the manufacturer hard mounts are. Show them the "Rivet Nut" you install to downtube for new mounting location - or - disassemble the plastic mounting plate, you see a cast aluminum plate holding the battery cable - drill a hole in that plate for your Second mounting hole so battery aligns "right side up". I use plastic lids as spacer washers at screw mounts and zip tie mounts at loose end to bike - to avoid Rivnuts in downtube. Big thing about conversions, it's the installation curveballs you get when things don't fit right - that frustrate people. I'm sure the batteries you sell have more mounting range.
    In your video comment box, make access to your website easier (active weblink) and mention "I sell all Motor and Battery items installed, and have a Forum and Blog site for install topics". How I got the "Speeed App" to work with Android phone to reprogram controller settings is on your forum. Cool app to use.

  • @ksnax
    @ksnax ปีที่แล้ว

    Do NOT expect the battery to have enough clearance in that location when using one with the generic 4.5" tall casing. It will not fit into even an XL frame triangle either. I'd been shopping for a full suspension bike to convert for over a year, and I finally found a Heckler in the size that I need, but it is demanding either a custom battery or low profile one to avoid tire interference, or a reduction in fork stroke. Obviously, that was challenging for JNO to verify given the superb, but spring based Fox Vanilla fork. I swapped in a different fork with more forward offset and air suspension instead, tested it bottomed out, and there is only 90mm of it's 140mm of travel that is useable before contact. So for serious off-roading, this setup needs some tweaks!
    Fortunately, everything else about the kit is an easy fit. I am upgrading to a 11-51T drivetrain however, as the original gearing isn't quite low enough for technical climbing, power on or not with the a 42T chainring.
    That said, I tested it with my air fork over-pressured to minimize interference risk, and this bike is a great one to throw a kit on despite these issues.

    so i did something cool. i have 1 of these triangle batteries 1kwh and its large and heavy. Hey Johnny. My Cannondale Super V 400 will need the battery mounted like this example. I know some people rivet but the Super V is aluminum. Plus my 1998 model still looks showroom quality without a scratch. So I found examples of clamps like this video, and I will do that with some material under the clamps so it doesn't scratch. But just making sure you didnt need to do any drilling on the bike in the video to the bike? was it just to the mount?
    Ive seen some clamp/bracket examples that have a bracket that is clamped to the bike and then the battery mount screws to that with the normal bottle screws. Is that something you also do?

    Hi MrJohnnyNerdOut. I'm a new subcriber, I've been binge watching your videos for a couple of hours now. You do a great job of educating efficiently, and that's sort of rare on YT. I'm sold on everything you have to say on e-bikes, and I'm going to order parts soon for me and my older children. I know it's not your area of interest, but I'm sure you have some expertise in it because it's a kissing cousin of what you do, but I want to put together some e-scooters for my Grandkids using similar philosophy...for lack of a better word as you do with your e-bikes. They are 5, 8, and 10, and I I'd like to start on something along the beginner side for safety reasons, and just in case they end up being something that gets forgotten in the back of the garage. I feel that if I get the family going if they all get their own EV's, that it can be a great way for all of us to do a fun activity that we all enjoy. Do you have suggestions on how you would go about choosing the right scooter or building one that would work. I'm fairly handy in the shop and willing. Also, does Bafang offer anything in the scooter area. I'm thinking something that could go off road. Anyway, if you find time to reply and give me your $.02, I'd appreciate it.

    Technically, not street legal. Too many extra wires for shift and brake sensors for my taste too, but I do get it and the appeal.
    Remember suspensions are not just heavy, causing them to eat range, but it shortens battery life as they compress even ever so little with each pedal stroke. Also, that is a pretty darned wide and tall tire. With the suspension, it is going to brake dive and squirm in cornering on pavement. So, probably not the best commuter, but a heck of a lot of fun off road!

      When are you going to take them on a Multi-Use Path (MUP), rail trail or bike lane? How much exercise? How much do you have to spend to be able to take them anywhere you might be able to actually use them? What about lisc, registration, fuel & service? How about space to store when not riding and how safe are your alternatives against theft when stored or parked (we can take ours with)? What about the environmental impact? No thanks!

      @@kennypool sorry, frankly I think I still miss it. I am used to spending that much and more on traditional bikes and wondering how people could waste so much on what is to me a dinosaur (expanding gas tech from the 1850's and we're still using it for unreliable vehicles and weapons). My higher end bikes devalue quickly, but eventually level off. My bike from the 70's is worth more now than when I bought it (possibly triple). All my 30+ year old bikes still work the same as new with no spe I'll maintenance and e-bikes are just as simple. I can't cross my town one minute faster in a car than on a bike, even if I speed, so I ride a bike.
