Show-ya is still kicking ass with the same members. Nemophila has an excellent cover of this song, it was done during Tamu's maternity leave so Show-ya's drummer filled in for her.
They weren't technically the first but they were the first to break into the mainstream. They showed record labels that signing female rock/metal acts wasn't a waste of money. Even 40 years later they haven't lost a step. I hope their world tour plan actually comes to fruition because I would love to see them live.
Show Ya's guitarist Sun Go ( That's her nickname. This is what happens when there are 3 Miki's in the band) Is pretty close to SAKI from Nemophila. They call each other "mother" and "daughter" for fun. Saki is a huge fan of Sun Go. hence why she always plays in the NAON YAON concerts of late.
Captain Nakamura, Sun-go Igarashi and Mittan Tsunoda the Mikis power. SHOW-YA formed the same year as LOUDNESS, both shared the success story and both still kicking asses until now. Dubbed as female LOUDNESS, they are growing stronger.
You've already heard the vocalist's voice at the beginning of Nemophila's Oiran live. The presenter who introduced Nemophila on the stage was Keiko Terada, about thirty years later from this Show-Ya's video.
"Murasaki" (Heavy Rock) formed in 1970. "Flower Travelling Band" Heavy Rock / Metal formed 3 years earlier in 1967 they were the first to play recognized Heavy Rock incorporating Heavy Metal in Japan. Show-ya was the first recognized all female Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Band In Japan Show-ya & Terra Rosa both formed in 1982, but Terra Rosa had male members. Miki "Sun-go" Igarashi is my personal favourite guitarist, closely followed by Saki of Nemophila. Keiko Terada is my personal 2nd favourite vocalist behind Eye of Mary's Blood. The only member of Show-ya I have ever seen perform in person live is Miki Tsunoda, sitting in for Muratatam for Nemophila's 1st One-man Live. I almost have a full collection of Show-ya's music which includes every format from tape cassettes & vinyls to CD/DVDs. Just missing a couple of 7" vinyl singles, I'll get them one-day 😂🤣
The interesting is to compare Show-Ya with other all female bands from the same era. Show-Ya is /was one of the best of them globally at the time! Actually Shonen Knife started a couple years earlier but they played / still plays "bubblegum pop punk without attitude" , not metal, and make me smile the hole day. First Japanese band I heard in the middle of the 80:ies and I'm silly nostalgic about them. They gonna have their 40 years anniversary tour in Europe next year and Yes, bought a ticket for the show in Stockholm. This old man is gonna bli silly! *-)
I was torn between Ningen Isu and Show Ya on recent poll. i selected Ningen Isu so was very happy to see you also react to Show Ya. an awesome 80's band that still kicks butt today with all the original members. i love what they do for Japanese Women in music with the Show Ya presents Naon/Yaon yearly event
Its not just the music, Show-Ya's Naon no Yaon Festival in Tokyo has done a lot as far as promoting and encouraging girls in music. I'm sure you're familiar with Naon by now; here's just a few fun facts of it with Nemophila. Each year at Naon there's an Idol style competition for 'Cute Girl' opening act where a "new comer" all-female act gets to perform at the opener. Tamu's old band Soramimi is a past winner of 'Cute Girl'. Mayu former band Lipstick auditioned for 'Cute Girl' opener, but lost. That was a major bummer to Mayu because Tokyo Garden, the annual venue of Naon, was Mayu's "dream stage" to perform on. She credits that experience as part inspiration for writing the lyrics to "Life", and was motivated to one day sing the song on he "dream stage". She obviously realizes her dream years later when she performs "Life" in Nemophila at Tokyo Garden. Then also, it was Tamu's professional relationship with Saki, through playing various Naon Festivals as drummer on Saki's World Guitar Girl Collection, that led Mayu to consider Saki when Nemophila was looking for a guitarist. That just Nemophila, so imagine what impact Show-Ya's Naon no Yaon has had in its 30 years (on and off). Even as far as female guitarist, I know Miki "Sun-Go" Igarashi is a huge influence to a lot of these great Japanese female guitarist we hear today, especially Saki. She's been sort of Saki's sensei when it comes to role models, and if you watch some older Show-Ya performances, you can see a lot of Sun-Go's stage presence in Saki. Naon has also had some cool mash up band moments. There's the Princess Princess vocal medley where one year you had Keiko Terada (Show-Ya), Mayu (Nemophila), Angelina (Gacharic Spin) and Eye (Mary's Blood) doing medleys of Princess Princess songs. Then in '20 there were a couple songs played by "Nemophila Spin", a mix of Nemophila and Gacharic Spin members and in Naon '16 Band Maid and Gacharic Spin played together. A Show-Ya song I would recommend is their cover of X-Japan's "Kurenai" that incudes Saki and Hazuki playing as guest guitarist. Its on Show-Ya's official channel, but you have to make sure you choose the right version because there's two covers. The one with Saki and Hazuki is labeled "second take" or something, but its also recognizable by the thumb nail because it has "Saki" written in it. Hope you get a chance to check that out.
Yes!! A cool and informative blast from the past. I've heard that Keiko single-handedly started Naon No Yaon about the time of this video. I saw Keiko this week as a guest vocalist with Gacharic Spin - and an appearance on the Rock Fujiyama Channel - She can still sing! (Miyako & Midori were recently on Rock Fujiyama as well) [Rock Fujiyama - the ONLY interview show where you are guaranteed to see Marty Friedman shredding LIVE weekly] I would be totally down for seeing Show Ya Live if they come to Houston! Still bummed that Scandal (Legendary J-Rock band) isn't coming on their World Tour. Scandal was formed by 4 high school friends in 2006 who started playing on street corners. The band remains intact after 16 years!!
The girls are still active today. Vocalist Keiko Terada is now 58 years old. Her performance has not changed much. Keiko Terada praises Nemophila as her younger siblings.
Nicknames: Miki Nakamura (keys) = "Captain"; Miki Tsunoda (drums) = "Mittan"; Miki igarashi (guitar) = "Sun-go" . Satomi ain't no Miki, so no problem and Keiko (vocals) doesn't need a nickname: she's a legend in Japan. All five are still playing together, that's quite incredible. I have all their records, even if I only discovered them some years ago.I have a whole concert from '89 on my channel, because guess what? They were even better live! th-cam.com/video/sERiIfo7bE0/w-d-xo.html

WATASHI ha ARASHI_“I Am a Stormy Woman”(1989)SHOW-YA
Lyrics: Yoshihiko Ando, music: Keiko Terada, arrangement: Masanori Sasaji and SHOW-YA
Released June 7, 1989: 9th single
(English translation of rough lyrics meaning)
As if I was swept away by the wind
That blew like an endless stream
I chased the lightning that shone so brightly
The stormy sky we both saw that day
Nothing has changed.
Now it's a dead age where dreams can't be born
That's just a man's line
What changed your mind that you were so strong?
I hope you'll never betray yourself
I'm a strong woman like a storm
I'll blow away the false peace
I'm burning like a flame
Once more I'll set our world ablaze, Blowin'you
Women wear glass masks
We can hide our true faces from the world
And yet, somewhere inside,
A man always has a rusty dream that he can't get rid of
For the sake of love,
even if it hurts
I fear nothing now
I want to go back to that night
in the middle of a distant storm
The lightning that ran through us both
I am the woman of miracles
I open this night that has been closed up
And let it go
I give birth to the future
We can feel each other forever
You can get!
The lightning that calls tomorrow
Woo Woo
Now it's ripping through the sky
I'm a strong woman like a storm
I'll blow away the false peace
I'm burning like a flame
I want to burn once more
The fire of our life ,Blowin'you
