Maithili and angika are derived from same group of language. I think angika is like a dialect of maithili people are separating them..cause maithili dialects are everywhere different like in darbhanga and Begusarai multiple Changes are there but there language is called to be maithili. Angika doesn't have it's own Grammer and poetries I think it's a version of maithili and equally important as darbhangiya maithili.
