I'm glad he got banned for life man, I love going to games and watching games also, so I can't even imagine how the Clippers' players feel. Like Lebron said: "There's no room in the league for Donald Sterling." The sad part is, I'm sure that there are a bunch of Donald Sterling type people out there, in high places, that feel the same way, Sterling just got caught. Regardless, I have to give props to Adam Silver for taking a stand on this situation the right way. Referring to the Sugar daddy thing, I think Ludacris said it best in is song "Ho" lmao. Good video Smoove.
Can we get more commentaries like this? About world topics or just basketball related things in general? I think I'm speaking for a lot of people when I say that we'll appreciate and enjoy it very much.
Sayeed Morgan thats because the NAACP is a bunch of money hungry race exploiters. They gave him an award solely bedasue he wrote a check. He had already lost a lawsuit for discrimination whent the NAACP gave him an award. Those cock suckers dont care about minorities any more than the rich white men they claim to be defending us from.
RACISM is different from prejudice or discrimination. All humans can be prejudiced or practice discrimination based on personal preferences. All humans do not have the power to institutionalize their prejudicial attitudes into laws and structures that favor one race over the other. This is the heart of racism.
The problem with this situation was that he was illegally recorded in the privacy of his home. We all make mistakes, say things in private we wouldn't normally say. The tapes shouldn't even seen the light of day. Would you like to be in the privacy of your home fearing what you say? Not everyone is perfect some people even crack jokes with friends, imagine getting fired from your job for that. Racism is ugly, but I believe people should have the freedom to at least be able to express themselves in privacy without persecution. No matter what your opinions are. Tolerance isn't just accepting all races but also accepting people's ignorance. Just my thoughts. Love you Smoove.
Chris,i really think you should make more videos like these, talk about topics from the NBA,maybe do a playoff prediction video you know, touch on that a little bit.
Why does people need to be so racist all the time? just because someone is a different color doesn't mean that he should be treated like an outcast. (FacePalm)
Man if 2k had like sound effect packs I would love to see a Chris Smoove Pack. Hitting a 3 would play his "splash". Contact dunks or incredible defended shot conversions would play that one beat (don't know what to call it), Alley Oops with play his Lob music Of course with proper permissions from Chris himself. Imagine 2k contacts him one day for it, with proper credit given. Chris would you do it? That would be a smoove move for sure.
I like these commentarys of yours a lot better as a Voiceover, when you talk about things happening in the current NBA and real life. It would be great if you could talk about every series or who you think will win the championship. Great vid!
Just making sure people know that every human is part of the SAME RACE. We are ONE RACE. Chris mentioned that there are people from different races in the NBA. But that's not true. The NBA is so diverse there are people that have different ethnic backgrounds, skin color, and ways of life. In the end, we stick together as part of our race, no matter our variations that make us different. That was very brilliantly displayed by Adam Silver, and anyone who supports the fight against bigotry, and racism in this today and age. It is totally unacceptable for people like Sterling to exist in such a prominent era in this country. There's just no room for negativity.
Jordan Lee Those who defend him, haven't allowed themselves to accept and move on with the times. Somewhat similar to the tension between the North and South during the early late 1850's about slavery in this country, which ultimately led to the U.S. Civil War, but of course on a lower scale. If a racist as powerful as Sterling can fall, so can anyone else.
What he said was completely uncalled for, but you have to understand the time he grew up in. The man is 80 yrs old, he was born during the great depression to give you an idea how old he is. His mindset is completely different from a 18-35 year old man. He grew up in a time in a time where racism was still pretty heavy influenced. Not making excuses just saying all men of that age are somewhat racist, no matter their race.
Im happy Donald Sterling is Banned and Fined cause we all the same in the inside, Im a Huge Basketball Fan and when I saw Larry Johnson Post about they making a All black player league wow he should be fined there and Adam silver needs to tell anyone whos a NBA or Ex Nba player says a racist comment will be fined, They need to set examples for young kids who love the game of basketball
He has been accused of shit like this before. And David Stern didn't do anything about it. I already have more respect for Adam Silver than I do for Stern
1) The first round series are close only because the refs are controlling the game and evening the score when teams started to pull ahead. The League has turned into a WWF style entertainment. 2) 2.5 mil is the max anyone in the League can be fined. 3) kareem abdul jabbar said it best: Donald Sterling is always known to be a racist. So is the league only taking action now when he's been a racist for the longest time? 4) Donald Sterling is 80 years old; chances are a life time ban won't affect him that much.
Smoove. I wish you would talk about your thoughts on the NBA news more often in videos. You should make videos talking about things like the NBA playoffs, NBA news, and other interesting things that occur in the NBA. I think everyone would love to listen to your opinions on these things :D
I'm not black but I'm a minority, and I despise racist people. Donald Sterling's comments were racist and offensive. But can we really ban him from the NBA and fine him $2.5 mil because of what he said in a private conversation that happened to be caught on tape? Don't get me wrong, it's incredible an actual NBA owner could say those kind of things, but honestly. It's not like he took some kind of action or backed up an action with those comments. It's a wrong opinion, but it's still just an opinion, after all. If we start policing what people think and believe in, how are we any different than North Korea or some country like that? I applaud NBA for making such a swift response on this issue, and it's definitely a step in the right direction, but this isn't the way to do it. And for those of you who think white people are the only racist ones, you're kidding yourselves. There are people like that in every race. It's just that white people have a history so they get away with way less than the others.
Although I agree with you in a political context, in a moral context, it would not be smart to do anything less than that. Say that adam silver did nothing about this issue, then it kind of sends a message that the nba tolerates this type of racial view. And I know they don't, not many people do tolerate racism this day in age, but I'm just saying that it would set the example that you can get away with stuff like this. In reality, I believe that silver's decision was more of a statement than it was just punishment. He was sending a message to all people who shared sterling's views and this incident will likely be the basis for future racial discrimination cases across all sports. 2.5 million dollars, lifetime ban, and forced sale of the team sound really harsh for some opinions, albeit, flawed opinions. But again, I believe that adam silver had to make a statement that the nba wouldn't tolerate discriminatory views.
I can't agree more with what you said. Plus he wouldn't even express his opinion if not that provocotion by his " girlfried ". It's a good thing that he won't own a team anymore, but I think NBA is abusing its power..
Adding on to what Andrew Chang said, this was just as much a business decision as it was a moral one. Sponsors were dropping endorsements left and right, and it appears the players and coaches from several if not all the playoff teams were going to sit out starting last night, if something drastic wasn't done. This would've hurt the NBA as a business in an unprecedented way. And it's not the first time, years ago there was an owner for the Cavaliers (not the current one) who felt the roster should be comprised mostly of white players because he thought that would result in more sales, plus his financial handling of the club was atrocious.
Also he knew he was being recorded because she likes to archive conversations, although that might just be a cover for her to say she going to archive it.
So, who got a life time ban when all the racism was flying around when Jao Ming entered the NBA? And what about during Linsanity? Didnt Shaq have some questionable quotes towards Jao Ming?
Yeah but Shaq's comments to Yao were a joke. Even Yao didn't care and laughed at him. I only remember fans or reporters being racist to Lin, not any other players or anyone in the association...
AjTheBballer So racism is okay as long as it´s a joke? From my point of view it only looks like racism against black people matters and racism against asians etc is viewed as a "joke", in the NBA that is. And it doesnt really matter if Yao laughed it off, the things Shaq said wasnt a hundered percent towards Yao personally, it was towards asian people overall, asian stereotypes and such. Maybe i should add this to, the punishment Sterling got was great, all racists should be banned for life, fans, players and owners.
Rebel csgo I'm asian, so I can kinda feel when racism is going too far. And to me, what Shaq said wasn't really racist, it was joke. It didn't cause any trouble in the league like Sterling did, so therefore there's no need for punishment. Besides, if I remember, Shaq apologised, as a few people complained...he said he meant it as a joke.
I know racism is bad bla bla bla but anybody can think what he want ? it's a private call if he is racist that's he's problem , this is freedom , he dosn't say that in the press he say that at home , that's why this case is difficult to judge !
Yes but the nba can still force him out because they are not government owned. Hence they dont have to abide by the whole free speech thing. And he said it at a game not at home
DUDE everyone know but this not question the inssue is that guy is racist and this can't be treated in this way you know I'm a brzillian guy and you thing is don't hard listem this.this case have to be treated like was treated with a hard decisions to that guy okay . this is the point
Gamer Ghosts BR I agreee he deserve to be ban or something but everybody can think what he wan't even if it's bad , just not saying it in public , but i agree again about punish him
cocodu76500 i think its worse to say something like that behind close doors when you are around blacks all day shaking hands , probably saying stuff like good game out there ,proud to have you on the team , then go behind close doors and say i dont want blacks at my game
Tyriq Truesdale It's not a right thing to do, but he should be able to say that especially because it's a private phone call. He should've just been warned about it, not fined 2 million dollars.
He has blacks on his team i would not play for him if he doesn't like my skin color its stupid. the government basically sees everything the world is not secure
honestly, while his comments were disgusting, racist, and flat out wrong, its not like he killed someone. He said something wrong, in private. While i disagree with what he said, he has the right to say anything he wants. Banning him is wrong.
It's like being caught by college officials for having a beer in your hand in a Facebook photo while you have a scholarship. This type of behavior is not acceptable in the NBA where many young people look up to for inspiration.
see this is where a case of freedom of speech and having the right to say whatever you want doesnt come into play that goes out the door because he owns the team so anything he says is looked at as that is how the clippers feel because he represents not only himself but the clippers as a whole.
If I work within a company, and I say some wild racist shit, and its caught on tape, spread around and now everyone in the office knows I'm a racist, including my bosses, I would expect to be sacked. I'm ruining the companies reputation and making if difficult for others to work with me. Now times that by 100, so a league largely funded by advertisement and public money's reputation is being tarnished by one man, why would they not sack him? It's actively losing the league money, damaging their reputation and making it difficult for others to work with him. Freedom of speech is that the government can imprison you for things you say, it doesn't mean you can go around and act like a dick and not expect any repurcussions from anyone.
What makes me sick is how people defend this racist. Sure this is a free country and we're to say whatever we want TO A LIMIT. Using "saying whatever we want in the privacy of our home" is a completely invalid statement. If someone threatened the President they would get arrested, therefore this saying whatever you want etc etc. is invalid.
Nick Hartley The thing is, he is the owner of a team where most of the players are black and he even said that he is the one feeding them and giving them houses which is like slave owners in the US before the civil war.
It's not about defending him. But just be honest, most people if not all, have said something racist in their lifetime. And the color of their skin doesn't matter. But to get such a harsh treatment for a private conversation is a little too much in my opinion. I mean even if he is a racist, he was it before it became public and people just didn't know so they didn't care. The point is, you could be sexually attracted to fucking spiders or whatever, but you still could be a good and hard worker. These are some double standards if you ask me.
Im not in any way defending what Sterling said. I, like any decent citizen, am completely against racism. However the man is losing everything he's worked for in this league over 2 or 3 sentences. I think that this was a publicity move by the new commissioner to send a message rather than being a realistic punishment. I do believe that Sterling should not be allowed to be an owner, but I believe that he should of been told behind closed doors to resign and now he is going to be forced to sell. Something that in all honesty Sterling can pretty much fight with a very good lawyer to make out like a bandit. I know that people are going to champion the NBA for this decision but to me I just feel like they made the wrong one.
So a private phone call that no one else is supposed to hear can get you labeled and banned and stripped of a team? I'm sure if one of everyone's private phone calls was made public we'd all look bad. I'm not saying I agree, but that is his personal beliefs. Why can one's own private beliefs be made into such a fiasco?
ZackInHD exactly. Everyone just needs to stop all the racism. Blacks, Mexicans, whites, etc. Just stop. Everyone is equal. It's just sad that this many years has passed and people still have this mind set.
***** okay i should of made it more clear. I meant since America is the land of the free we should all be considered equal. It's just sad people still want to be racist. We're not free until we're equal. Whether it be race, or sexual preference. I'm not saying people have to be happy with what you do but just accept it and move on with your life.
Im not advocating what sterlling said but what his girlfriend did by recording him was illegal and because the NBA used the illegally obtained evidence stirlling could sue the NBA and win the case. So what i am saying is that what stirlling's girlfriend did was not only wrong for setting him up for something he said IN HIS OWN PRIVATE HOME but it is also illegal. Stirlling is a terrible person and i hate him for being a racist but this shouldn't even be a fine.
Doesn't matter whether it was illegally recorded or not. It is out publicly and causing harm the NBA. Just like any company when someone within the company does something that harms the company they have the right to punish them within the rules they set up. In this instance, that meant being banned for life, in pretty much any other case that person would be fired without question. Everything the league did was legal, it won't even make it to court. He may be able to sue her specifically for slander or something similar, but the league is within their legal rights.
I'm pretty sure that if her cell recorded it then it is not illegal, I'm not a lawyer (at least, not yet (it's a possibility)) but I think she can record her own conversation.
flintandsteelgames its not the recording that's illegal its that she sold the recording. anyways im not saying what he did was right or in any way justified, to be honest its pretty fucked up but Stirlling got played and thats not right either.
Am I the only one skeptical of Donald Sterling actually having said this stuff? I know he's had past racist incidents so it wouldn't surprise me if it he actually said it, but the person that released the recording is suing him so for it to come up right now just seems highly suspect IMO. Now if it is true, I completely agree with how it was handled (though suspended for life at his age is more of a show-move than an actual punishment) but Adam Silver did a great job handling it. It's also pretty ironic that if he's forced to sell it, it will probably be to Magic Johnson who is the specific person he commented about during the recording. But with the sell, Sterling will be making around $500 million so it's not like he's totally losing here.
Also in the soccer world in a game Villarreal vs FC Barcelona. A Villarreal fan throws a banana at Dani Alves during a cross. Dani Alves picks up that banana eats it during the game and continues to go on. Then Villarreal issue life ban to fan who threw banana at Barcelona's Dani Alves.
Smoove you should do more vids where you talk about events in the NBA or even in all over the world. Gameplay was getting old to me but i liked this where you gave your opinions.
While I don't agree with any of the comments Sterling made I can't disagree with Silver's decision enough [though he honestly didn't have a choice in the matter]. There were numerous reports of several NBA teams [Clippers were among those teams] were planning on boycotting playoff games if no major action was taken against Sterling, so in a sense Silver's hands were tied. These guys are overpaid to play ball not get caught up in petty off court drama. No matter how much you disagree with Sterlings comments he still has his first amendment rights, and not to mention, his comments were OFF THE RECORD, and IN HIS OWN HOME. These recordings were gathered without his consent, so I call some serious BS on everyone involved in this mess. This shouldn't have even been news in the first place. If Sterling would have been black and made anti white statements no one would have batted an eye, it's just reverse racism nothing more. Either way, this nonsense tabloid crap should be left to TMZ.
First amendment only applies to the government not private organizations. Sterling can't be arrested, but the NBA is a private organization so they can do whatever they want.
I agree with everything that Smoove Said. The situation in general is terrible because it is a huge distraction towards an amazing NBA playoffs. Also, the situation did not have to be publicized by the media.
A racist with a black gf? Thats a noob move! Somebody get that guy some glasses...how did he not see herrr?!?!

thats another reason why it was such a smoove moove cuz silver really got respect now
Ryldux I hated Stern. He had favorite teams and would tell the refs to call the game their way. Silver is much better
Silver stated specifically in his interview that they didn't have good enough evidence before - at least not like they did this time.
blarghhboy He said that so it didn't make Stern look bad. They had plenty of evidence
You were part of the team reviewing the evidence, I take it?

honestly i think it should have been more
Elijah Dove Do you not know what "max" means?
Elijah Dove i wanted it to be 10+ million but NBA rules wont allow it to happen

my opinion

And it doesnt really matter if Yao laughed it off, the things Shaq said wasnt a hundered percent towards Yao personally, it was towards asian people overall, asian stereotypes and such.
Maybe i should add this to, the punishment Sterling got was great, all racists should be banned for life, fans, players and owners.
AjTheBballer so true
Rebel csgo I'm asian, so I can kinda feel when racism is going too far. And to me, what Shaq said wasn't really racist, it was joke. It didn't cause any trouble in the league like Sterling did, so therefore there's no need for punishment. Besides, if I remember, Shaq apologised, as a few people complained...he said he meant it as a joke.
Thank you for this vid brother.. Been waiting for a youtuber to share their thoughts on this topic. Couldn't agree with you more. Great video Chris.
"Racism is a noob move." Chris Smoove 2014
@4:54 lebron fans be like... It wasn't a posterize.
Apocalypse1377 But it's at phone so it's private
Can he still get NBA league pass?
I like these commentaries. You should do more, smoove.
I like these commentaries when you talk about stuff
It's so stupid honestly, many people are like this. Their phone calls just don't get leaked.
But it's a owner of a team. Who's team is basically black
LeBron in L.A.
honestly, while his comments were disgusting, racist, and flat out wrong, its not like he killed someone. He said something wrong, in private. While i disagree with what he said, he has the right to say anything he wants. Banning him is wrong.
This guy has a point. As long as Sterling apoligizes for the terrible things he said we should forgive him for it.
Freedom of speech is that the government can imprison you for things you say, it doesn't mean you can go around and act like a dick and not expect any repurcussions from anyone.
no totally.
Lebron on the Lakers, 2K predicting the future. Now that’s some cheese
just realized that in 2k14 Chris smoove played lebron and he was on the lakers the irony 😂😂
Lebron on lakers? 2k14 be predicting the future
Damn 2018 and LeBron is now on the lakers for real
You guys do realize if they didn't fire him there would protests and the intense Clippers/Warriors series would probably stop, right?
I love these videos when smoove stalks about the nba
Aye Smoove, I've only been a subscriber for a while so I was wondering who do you like in the Nba(teams, players, even coaches lol)?
I thought they were going to force him to sell it to magic Johnson?
What makes me sick is how people defend this racist. Sure this is a free country and we're to say whatever we want TO A LIMIT. Using "saying whatever we want in the privacy of our home" is a completely invalid statement. If someone threatened the President they would get arrested, therefore this saying whatever you want etc etc. is invalid.
I don't support racism but this was a private conversation and Freedom of Speech.
Nick Hartley The thing is, he is the owner of a team where most of the players are black and he even said that he is the one feeding them and giving them houses which is like slave owners in the US before the civil war.
So NBA>13 Amendments?
It's not about defending him. But just be honest, most people if not all, have said something racist in their lifetime. And the color of their skin doesn't matter. But to get such a harsh treatment for a private conversation is a little too much in my opinion. I mean even if he is a racist, he was it before it became public and people just didn't know so they didn't care. The point is, you could be sexually attracted to fucking spiders or whatever, but you still could be a good and hard worker. These are some double standards if you ask me.
Nick Hartley
No, NBA>Government in terms of rules.
Smoove you should make more videos talking about topics and things like this. Its really nice, would be nice if you let thoose fly!
Man the songs you put in your videos sound fire bruh
So a private phone call that no one else is supposed to hear can get you labeled and banned and stripped of a team? I'm sure if one of everyone's private phone calls was made public we'd all look bad. I'm not saying I agree, but that is his personal beliefs. Why can one's own private beliefs be made into such a fiasco?
private or not there's still no place for it in the nba. Not saying other owners are not racist but he just got caught slippin.
It wasn't a phone call for one, and for two, for anyone to feel that way, privet or not, shouldn't be in the NBA.
ZackInHD exactly. Everyone just needs to stop all the racism. Blacks, Mexicans, whites, etc. Just stop. Everyone is equal. It's just sad that this many years has passed and people still have this mind set.
Tevin Jones if everyone is equal then how come mexico and africa are shitholes? (mexicans and blacks)
***** okay i should of made it more clear. I meant since America is the land of the free we should all be considered equal. It's just sad people still want to be racist. We're not free until we're equal. Whether it be race, or sexual preference. I'm not saying people have to be happy with what you do but just accept it and move on with your life.
Damn they got my nigga
- Pauly Dean
How about you talk about what Larry Johnson said about having a all black league?
Why don't we have an all white league?
Chris smoove keeps it real
Hey Smoove, I'm a huge fan of you playing the nba 2k14 series for next gen ps4 and I was wondering. What kind of camera angle seeing are you using?
He may be able to sue her specifically for slander or something similar, but the league is within their legal rights.
..and when someone joins the NBA, they basically give up their right to sue, It's something like that.
Actually it's against California state laws correct, but not against NBA arbitration laws.
Lebron in a Lakers jersey with Kobe.
I like the move from Silver. Shows he has guts and this is the way to stamp out racism
1:38 the ultimate 2k cheese!! Lebron is so OP!!
chris smoove losing a mycareer game is this a fake video
Also in the soccer world in a game Villarreal vs FC Barcelona. A Villarreal fan throws a banana at Dani Alves during a cross. Dani Alves picks up that banana eats it during the game and continues to go on. Then Villarreal issue life ban to fan who threw banana at Barcelona's Dani Alves.
The correct term for his girlfriend is "Gold Digger."
awesome vids man. keep it up
Smoove you should do more vids where you talk about events in the NBA or even in all over the world. Gameplay was getting old to me but i liked this where you gave your opinions.
SEATTLE SUPERRRRSONICS *Cough* *Cough*
they are called sugar babies lol
chris smoove weighing in on something he knows nothing about except what mainstream media tells. in the words of CS "thats a noob move"
exactly
This ain't the 15th century ,baby !!
We need more number 27 to number 21! Smoove to Smoove baby!
Did I just see lebron on the lakers
Put the Speed up to 2 is too Funny !
A lifetime ban does'nt matter anyway Sterling has cancer and was said to be on his death bed anyway
K he can have his rights. Hes still banned though.
I'm still calling BS, had he been black and said something against whites the league would have either slapped his wrist or completely ignored it.
thatguyonstage
You really think that if it was a black owner who said this, there wouldnt be an uproar?
How more delusional can you be?
Totally agree, and you should make more videos where you talk about what's happening in the NBA
Great video Smoove
Give Donald Sterling a fine!
They did...a 2.5 million dollar fine
Ha haa
Then lebron would be in billions of dollars in debt
Lololololololol jacob
A very very very (2.5m) expensive fine
Adam silver was right to do that
#Clippernation son,
#warriornation
Mace Windu We're about to take the series though. Mace Windu
Mace Windu #dubnation actually
The way Curry plays you should just do #flopnation Krishna Patel
TheNbc27 Coming from a clippers fan? Hypocritical much? The clippers are the biggest floppers and whiners around
Love these rants
I agree with everything that Smoove Said. The situation in general is terrible because it is a huge distraction towards an amazing NBA playoffs. Also, the situation did not have to be publicized by the media.
