Amy with her first hammer, apart from hitting, is almost like a double jump, on some maps you can take advantage of that when the springboards don't work or you want to go faster than the exe. (And about Cream, that is due to a kind of bug in the game, the same thing happens with the colors of some characters, for example, I have seen a white eggman with skin-colored parts (most of his clothes were white)
