The new hippies? But no surprise to me, because some of today's work demands are over the top, plus they are told every day on the news how impossible financial success is for them now.

Right ...but eventually the hippies all went to work and settled down somewhere. Only it sounds like this group will have no skills or education which will make them vulnerable and easily exploited. If the think they are suffering now they have no idea what the real cruel world is like.😢

Boomers call us lazy but fail to see that GenZ/Millennials are working higher paying jobs than our parents did at our age (making 45k-70k just starting out), working side hustles or second jobs, and still can barely afford to live due inflated housing, gas, and food costs. My grocery costs from 2016 are nearly triple now with the same shopping list.
I had to move in with a dad to save for a house cause rent, even for a studio apartment, is so damn high I might as well own, but even having a mortgage sounds scary cause that can increase with interest rates and taxes.
At least if you’re lower class, you can get government assistance to get by; if you’re upper class, you can thrive more worry free. But if you’re middle class, you’re living as paycheck to paycheck as the lower class but you make too much for government assistance.
The system in place isn’t working for anyone below retirement age and politicians are doing nothing but lining their pockets while we drown. We are in a constant state of survival, and are so exhausted to the point of asking ourselves if there’s even a point to trying anymore.

You can only get government assistance if you barely make anything. you have to make less than 15,000 a year as one person and that makes sense for someone who is retired but also what about people with severe mental or physical disabilities

Why work? You will never be able to afford a house or retire. Gen Z isn't dumb. We see all the people that worked their whole life and now cannot retire because of inflation; and it's only going to get worse. We aren't going to step in that trap.

Go look at the history books of life in the United States in the 60s and the 70s, etc! There were protests and hippies and eventually those hippies got jobs and settled down. We all wanted to change things and not sell our souls to capitalism. Why not be smart about it and infiltrate learn all you can from those systems make some money put it aside then leave start your own business and try to undo whatever you feel is not just in the world? You have to make money in order to live in our society and it's getting more expensive every day. I don’t think that it’s only a Gen-Z issue. I’m 56 and worked as a CNC machinist my whole life. In 2007 I was making $24 an hour before I quit my job. Recently I took a job for $26 an hour doing the same exact job. I lasted 2 months before I gave up again. The stress, in addition to making $2 an hour more than I did 17 years ago, was too much to handle. I’m just going to burn through all my retirement savings now while I watch TH-cam videos and eat popcorn. These companies are a joke. Must run 3 machines simultaneously. Must be quality oriented. In my early 20s i was only making 9 bucks an hour and could afford to live on my own, all bills fully paid, no food stamps, and i still had plenty of money leftover at the end of the month to either save or go out with friends. Now I'm in my mid 30s, making the most money I've ever made in my life and can barely survive. I don't blame them at all for not wanting to work anymore when you're giving so much of your time and energy to these companies and you're only making enough to barely scrape by. Most young people don’t feel like they’ll ever get married, have a house or kids, retire ect… we live in a society that glorifies getting one over on someone else, whether that be in the workplace, in investments or in relationships. The logical choice is to do as little as possible for many people. Luckily for me, I’ve got a good future wife and a house, but I’m by far the minority of people in their 20s with this arrangement

If you don't find a job like that, there are MANY options to be your own boss.
Working per hour means someone else is profiting from your labor so you aren't receiving what you are worth.
Corporations have ruined the US. Hospitals pay doctors less than what I earn in Onlyfans so I left medschool. My parents are both doctors. Completing med school would have been a breeze for me.
Hospitals would have the means to pay doctors if we had universal healthcare.
But the current system is broken. Even doctors are not being paid what they should.
Hospital owners pay a pitance to ALL their staff.
Everyone who is smart and can figure out how to make better pay elsewhere... is deciding to not become a doctor.

They don't work but some how can afford their living standards. These ppl are not homeless but are peppered in amongst the working class. Milking public funds because of their invisible illnesses. Doctors raking it in on a generation that was taught no life skills, over diagnosing and prescribing straight to the bank.
An amazing cure for this would be like it was prior to the loose public assistance and student aide, you work or you don't have life's necessities.
And YES the COL needs to be addressed. Not much incentive to contribute to society as a whole if you can't even break bread.
