Crossbows & Catapults: Château de CASTELNAUD (or how we were in the wrong castle)

  • A tour of the castle of Castelnaud, in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle in the Dordogne region in France.
    The castle, half in ruins, is also a war museum. During our visit there were live animations with catapults, sword fighting and a blacksmith and such.
    But it turns out we were not in the castle we thought we were.

    The concise history of the castle in the video comes from the castle's own brochure, as I could not find much about it in the books I have lying around.
    I tried to translate/paraphrase the French dialogue somewhat. It could be totally wrong.
    Images made by us, except for the few pictures of the castle in autumn, which were made by a relative.
    Update: Had to change a bit of the intro because of a content ID claim, so that is why it is a bit weird. Never had any problems with this track up till now, but that is life.

    Machicolations are called "matacanes" in Spanish, which can be translated as "dog-killers". I don't know why that came to mind...
