Rest in peace Mark “Hobo Shoestring” Nichols. God bless your family and friends and bring them peace and comfort in your passing. We love you brother. Blessings from Oklahoma
Oh im missing him already. Even though its very sad Shoestrings tragic passing, i find myself having a little smile watching his video's. The man was a legend no doubt, never be forgotten. ❤😢😊xxx
Hobo shoestring had guts and he loved adventure, God rest his soul. I may ride myself, I’ve been inspired even though I know hobo shoestring was not a true hobo, he simply loved the adrenaline rush, the adventure, the new experiences. Shoestring wanted all he could get from this life and the earth he lived on. I am 67 years old, I’ve done nothing but work to survive, to feed my family first a foremost. I do not regret the 50 years I worked. I had a few vacations, I had a nice home, nice cars, an abundance of food however I never traveled outside the south eastern states and that was simply family visits, week long vacations and I drove a tractor trailer throughout the south eastern states. I seen it through a windshield at night. I have respect for someone who grabs a hold of their desires, goals, and ambition allowing nothing to get in their way of achieving the life they desire. Shoestring grabbed life and achieved what he desired and that was the RIDE.
I remember back when an engineer saw and recognized you and told you to hop into the like the third engine because it was remote and you gave us a good tour and respectful of the equipment and had a good ride. God bless you 🙏❤️
SHOUT OUT To James Hale for stepping up and helping Mark with those Battery Banks! TOO Funny watching Shoestring clap and rub his hands together as the first train approached! I appreciate the passion AND excitability in Catching A Ride! Appreciate you saving us all a Seat Shoestring! Cheers From COW-lumbus, Ohio MOO To The Shoestring Crew
Swizle aka James Hale is my good buddy, He once helped me go through heroin withdrawal at his home in Alabama and got me sober. is that the same James hale you speak of?
I used to live in a house that had trains running about 20 yards from my back door. After about a month I could sleep through the night without even hearing the train. I miss it actually. Great videos. Thank You for sharing the scenery
I lived next to a bust interstate about 30 yards away for a couple years. I got used to the noise. We moved to a quiet part of town and it took me months to get used to falling asleep in silence.
Great video String! I loved when you heard the horn and were rubbing your hands in anticipation. You're like a little kid on Christmas morning waiting to see if they get that one thing the really want. Good to see you out there enjoying life and the freedom of the rails. You've definitely regained your health and zest for life. 🙂💕 Take care brother and cheers to many more adventures on the high iron 🚂
That was a great ride-along-= thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine, the fresh air, the open scenery - and happy no one saw you in your "pink palace" as you traveled. Thanks a lot Shoestring!
I've recently discovered SHOESTRINGS' videos, and just now read about his passing!! I'm really sad about this!! I got on here to read the comments because I wanted to send him some bug spray. Without sounding a little cliché, I don't look at trains the same because of his vidoes. The "grainer Cadillacs" 😂 It's amazing on how much he knew about what train went where and where the train would stop!! Semper Fi, stay free!!
Yes!!! Fathers Day is coming up and I Love the color on that knife. I’ve carried a pocketknife since I was 12 and I don’t understand how a person could get by without one.
I met you once at a bustop up fairbanks alaska way. Talked a bit before you headed out. Good to see your still up and rolling. May you always have clear skies and a cool breeze. (Salute)
Shoestring u outdid urself with this video!! Love the pink lady,u dont see to many cars like that, living the scenery, not used to all this wide open space,in NYC theres something everywhere!! Thanks for these fun trips u take us on, places i might never see, enjoy ur ride,be safe and as always godspeed 😎😃🚝🚅🚄🚃🚃
I’ve been with you since the beginning..I remember your first videos on TH-cam..shaky, grainy film..maybe a minute or 2 in length. you’ve come a long way my good man and have been through a lot. Stay safe and keep on goin.
6:07 I've had the same Yeasu FT60 for well over 10 years, and I've treated it like TRASH. The damned thing just won't die. Really, everything about it is excellent. I work for a commercial Motorola dealer and the FT60 is what I take into the field to help diagnose multi-thousand ££ installs.
Brother shoots strang. Your channel is really growing I love to see you do well on all videos. And I recommend them to everyone I know good luck on the rails brother
Honestly Shoestring, I think you're fine with the pink containers. If it was the only one, maybe an issue, but after the 4th or so, people stop looking. Thanks for another great trip!

I hate rock lane in Piney Flats, especially when I’m trying to go across the tracks, and a train is stoped, I pick up in that industrial park all the time it’s cool to know you’re down there waiting on trains there. Keep on keeping on buddy.👍🏾
👍👍Really enjoyed this video! The sunny country side footage of various communities, the education, the walking, etc. This was a true well rounded train hobo video Shoestring. Cheers..
It was after dark when I was visiting at a small house in Atherton, MO. I knew there was railroad tracks running through it, parallel to the Missouri River. Well, there were several folks in the parlor, including myself, when all of a sudden, a train horn sounded like is was right outside the back door … which, in actuality it was, did not realize we were that close to the tracks. The house was shaking, pictures on the wall were swinging, I noticed that everyone had stopped talking, I was about to pee my knickers. Anyway, seconds after the train had passed, conversations commenced. Never experienced anything like that since.
Just got my knife in the mail today and yeah, it's definitely my new favorite! Will be getting a lot of use out of it from now on that's for sure! I like that whenever you order from his shop you get a free keychain too. Once the hobo shadow shirt comes out I'll be sure to get one of those as well.
Can't believe I've been watching you since you had a few hundred subscribers, now you have a FEW HUNDRED THOUSAND now, really shows how much your character & spirit resinates with you! 👍💯 You're such a smart, cool, interesting man you're really owed a highly detailed movie on your life & travels
while the thought of just riding the rail to wherever it ends sounds like an exciting adventure, i'll have to live it vicariously through people like shoestring.
Good on ya, Shoestring. A few miles further down the track we go, like The Pink Panther. Good to see you looking a lot better than the start of the winter there. Thanks again and ride safe, Shoestring. Cheers!
Thanks for posting your train hopping videos Hobo Shoestring because train hopping is something alot of us will never get to do or experience because we have families. Safe travels to you Hobo Shoestring.
