Hmmm.... given the strat for enemy phasing a lot of the time, I feel like Early game Neimi (and sniper Neimi if you go that route) and innes will have issues due to being bow-locked. Sure, snipers have the sure shot chances, but on those characters you get surrounded on all tiles, that attempt at the level is over. (Of course, that's not a 'reset' thing technically, but still something that would need to be considered for their runs, and even ranking them for their runs I'd say.) which... I suppose the required way would be reflected as taking longer by the timer... with the even longer turtling up to avoid being surrounded.
Garcia is cool, but 20% speed is not cool. He gets +2 speed from Hero (9 AS) and then +2-6 from the three speedwings (11-15 AS) and then Garm gives him +5 speed (20 AS). I usually do the speedwings + garm strat for Duessel (along with giving him the boots)
I firmly believe early going for the Secret Book over Draco Shield was a bad call. Garcia is tanky. But not in a way an Armor Knight is. You can see how much damage he takes in the chapters after. Giving him the Draco Shield would reduce that, 2 less damage every single time he gets hit by physical damage. And this man is bound to get hit a lot without speed or dodge. While hit rate is important, I think the extra survivability would have lead to less struggle overall.
Respectfully disagree on my end, the result would have remained the same because they would have dodge way more and it would have just been longer for them to chip me down. The end result would have still been to play for luck which would have probably led to a reset on Chapter 9 either way.
I forgot to mention it in the video, but I did grab the dragonshield on the second attempt because of where my skill was at. Sorry I should have been clearer.

I love both of them, great characters, but I don't think I've ever seen a Garcia that didn't struggle along like this. He desperately needs some help to be effective, like a support with Neimi for more hit and avoid and killing the enemy with his one strong attack and her two weak ones.
Preach dude. "The same exp you'd give to Ross on Garcia goes further" absolute lies. I've always found it to be the case Ross just clears Garcia existence as soon as he becomes a Pirate, which can be done in ch 3. 4 if playing fast. What sets Ross apart from Garcia is the one stat everyone overlooks. LUK. Ross is far more accurate and evasive than his father, even IF they have comparable SPE. Ross caps as Berserker absolutely shit on Hero Garcia, who net +2 SPE from the promo but nerfs his offensive potential.
Lorewise it just feels so fitting that Garcia gains power through ones under his wings and vice-versa. Ross is is pretty much on his way to be his own dude thanks to his dad's upbringing that making Garcia to be one shepherding new cast of heroes feels more fitting than him being the solo guy.
And that's him pretty average. Looking at the desert map, I'm guessing warrior would lead to a reset. You need that +2 speed on promo, and Garcia needs to be slightly speed blessed to have a shot at effectively soloing. Not trying to dis the fella putting in the work to make this series but it would make more sense with fixed growths imo for the final ranking stuff he's doing, but I think it being more random is entertaining for how he presents them. But it did make me upsetti when he didn't realize he had a speed screwed Dozla.
@@coldeed no, this run has a well above average garcia, 20 skill before promotion, he stated in another comment that sexond run he grabbrd draco shield instead of the secret book btw, and his speed ended above average, even if yes by 1 point when accounting for the speedwing. And he even admitted in the vid to resetting when Garcia didn't level speed on the last few levels. Anyways, yeah Luck is am underrated stat
Another Ch 3 strat is to throw axes over the wall at the thief. That's what I usually do. Well, usually lances, but given infinite axe throws you're bound to hit eventually.
Because of their fast support and just liking axes, I usually use Axe Lad and Axe Dad together. Though promoting Ross to Berserker and Garcia to Hero makes their sprites and portraits mismatch a bit.

hello! I started binging these FE8 Solo Runs of yours a few days ago (not in order, oops) & I just wanted to drop a comment saying I'm enjoying them a lot! I'm not one to watch TH-cam videos a lot in general, especially ones of these nature due to my poor attention span being the enemy, but your commentary & attitude towards these videos is such a pleasure to watch. I'm having tons of fun wondering what each character is gonna struggle/excel at & am always left with a smile (or tears) on my face at the results. thank you for doing these runs & keep up the great work!

I love it when Garcia gets on a roll with str and skill. That's one of the more common "blessed" versions I've gotten. So, one idea that could be interesting when you finish the solo series. Is Duos. Specifically Garcia and Dozla The real blue and yellow ax bros. It would work well because Dozla can take Seth's spot, and Garcia in Eirika's. The fire/thunder support is pretty decent and having both of them could make for an interesting run. I know this one really did a number on you, but the vid came out awesome. Side note, Bows are effective against dracozombies. If you had trained his bow rank to just C or B a killer or brave bow could have saved some headaches in the last map.
Seeing that double crit on Lyon reminds me of one of my recent Randomiser runs. I teleported in a great knight with a brave axe and got 4 back to back crits, which was just enough to one round Lyon XD Was a bit gobsmacked to be honest!
On the last level with the warrior bows do extra damage to the draco zombies, so you can lure them with the ability to counterattack. Not super necessary but it is an advantage, you also have options for a longbow to hit them without them able to counter. You might be able to save an elixer that way.
Hey, wanted to once again day that I'm enjoying seeing your take on these solo runs. Garcia has always been a Frontline monster for me so it's good to see him getting some fair due showing, lol. That skill growth was kinda insane tho. Still looking forward to seeing more of these run ideas!
If you're taking unit suggestions I have 2. If you really hate yourself or your free time, I say either Neimi or Innes. The other would be a post game unit like Lyon or maybe Orson.
See, I'd have rated Garcia below Erika purely for the amount of resets and the amount of sheer luck that was necessary to do this run. Without having gotten super lucky with that ridiculous skill, you'd have had to reset even more, or died three or four times as much. That's worse than Erika taking forever just to complete the run, if the character can't even complete the run without dumb luck.
This reminds me of the 1 time I properly trained Dorcas for an FE7 run. He leveled up Speed ONCE as a level 20/5 Warrior before I just scrapped him 😂. Sunk cost fallacy is real.
I trained my Garcia up to A class with Bows and he was dodging quite a bit and doing major damage even with Iron bows. He is slept on with using a Bow as a Warrior.

That place can drive me nuts. I have had two instances on level 8 where Tana did the pierce glitch and softlocked my game and I had to restart. I love original hardware and play that way but it’s times like that where I think about emulation. Lol
Something I've been wondering as these challenges go on, and you've refined your run tactics, I wonder if you'd do noticeably better with some of the characters you've already played before you had your ideal runs/pathing down. Like if something from the last couple of runs would make you play better for Erika or something. Just a thought. So when are you doing the Orson run?

Still halfway through the video but I just want to say I respect a lot the guts with going warrior (or trying too, I haven't seem the ending yet). Yeah, sure, hero is better in almost all scenarios, but Garcia not being a warrior just feels wrong to me. He was born to spin.
Maybe the only "boon" of going Warrior would be to grind on Bow-Rank to use Longbow and attack for effective damage the Zombie Dragons. This could also help for the 2 range Gorgons but I don't think there is any other reason for going Warrior. Garcia needs to double the DK, with that low Avoid and Defense there is not another more consistent way for doing it.
Question for you. How do you patch in other characters as characters? I’ve been wanting to do something like this for ages. Love all of your videos. Keep up the good work
Saw this when it came out, late to comment but Garcia is honestly one of my favorite units, not because he is awesome at base or has good growth potential, but because he’s almost always gonna be good enough and embodies 12th best unit. Most runs you keep him for 1-2 range axes at base, usually taking a hit and usually doing a good one back, and he can actually contribute a lot with his support for training projects like Neimi and Ross as well as for Seth to get a tasty crit and avoid boost. That said, he’s definitely not the best candidate for soloing the game. He’d probably be better off on Ephraim route as Ewan gives a dracoshield instead and there’s a bit less pressure on you when you try to get the swordslayer so he’d basically one tap any sword enemies he needed to. Trying to get through ghost ship with him alone without a promotion… I’m not gonna lie I have no answer for that one. :p
Eirika is probably due for a rerun. That was one of your first runs, and I'm sure that with more knowledge of Sacred Stones, she should have a way better placement than Garcia.
Man, talk about a rough one! Very early on I was wondering if you'd have to re-roll your level ups for speed. Not surprised you did! IMO the rating is more than fair considering the recorded game times don't really reflect the actual time you spent on the run, and there is just naturally going to be a subjective portion to the run anyway. I'd be curious to see you re-run one of these bad characters but re-roll bad level ups from the very beginning, just to see what a difference it makes. It's been awhile since I've played any FE games but I'm definitely guilty of resetting a map here and there for my favorite characters' stats. 😅
Yeah it was difficult, but on those last few levels it felt necessary to reset lol. If I always rerolled bad level ups I feel like a lot of runs would feel very much the same from each other so I kind of like leaving it up to chance.
It's kinda crazy how much garcia changes as a unit depending on if he gets supports. Ross/Garcia (Fire/Fire) A gives +3 ATK +15 Hit/crit/avoid. You can then give him B rank with neimi (Fire) too for +5 ATK +25 hit/crit/avoid which pretty much makes him a berserker. Even if you don't like neimi, you can do gilliam (Thunder) or dozla (Thunder) instead. It's only thunder but still gives him the important bonuses and is nearly as good
One of the few people I've seen that actually considers how powerful support chains are. Good support chains is enough to separate two identical units into separate tiers (provided they're not incredibly long to build) but even C support goes a long way.
To be fair with all of those units being worse than Garcia if you’re trying to use him you’d probably still be better off not using those units and having more reliable units instead to help Garcia front line better via having other bulky units with him and have him weakening but not one rounding enemies go to better recipients of exp. Supports make a unit better, but all his support partners suck or is Seth who has far better things to do than baby sit him when he could be going an objective by himself or with another cav. But yeah if you goal is just to make him as strong as possible because you want to to each their own, gl.
@@twigz3214 In what world is dozla a bad unit? Ross is also pretty solid since he joins so early. And sure, you can just use all the best units every single time but fact is fe8 is one of the easiest FE games, and rolling through it with a horde of cavalry and fliers is just kinda boring.
@@Donlot_ don’t think Ross is great when you have to drag him though 10 levels of being a trainee unit to effectively get Garcia 2, yeah he’ll be slightly better but for the amount of work you put in and if you gave Garcia that exp instead he never will be unless you tower grind or cap them which won’t happen until post game. Also yeah it’s fair to say Dozla is more meh than outright bad, he joins with passable stats that get the job done but fall off a bit as the game goes on.
Hmm, the higher strength cap did have its merits, but I still think as an avid Garcia fan, gaining speed to avoid being doubled by mid speed classes wouldve been to his benefit Regardless, I appreciate the major effort you put in for best dad, a shame your first attempt was subpar in like, most aspects 💀
If you ever have to restart a run for better growths i don't think people would mind if you added a couple of metis tomes in to simulate if you got extremely lucky on each level up
As anyone asked you about doing some minor rigging at the start. Like, it doesn't seem yoi have hacked the games to guarantee averages, so, much like people would reset a pokemon run for good DVs, woukdn't make sense to rig some level ups early. Like, how long would it take to reset runs untill garcia Proc speed the first 2 levels for example. And a few character swould benefit immensely from things like that.
No one has asked about anything like that, but I do touch on it slightly in the Ross run and maybe the Amelia one. Basically usually I won't reset for good levels early on, unless the character absolutely needs certain specific stats to get through Breguet I don't worry about that stuff too much.
I'm curious. I may have asked this before, but is there any way you could put FE characters from other games in here and see how they do like Lyn, Hector, Sophia ect?
You should do a syrene solo run and a moulder one. Oh yiu should try the trainees solo but keep them in their trainee classes and only upgrade them through that class line
i would never have the patience to do this lol if i was you tho i would've allowed myself to get a fresh elixir for the demon king map because it is technically a different map then the one where you fight Lyon

I think not getting the dracoshield in favor of the secret book was a huge mistake. When you are fighting a ton of enemies per turn with a giant healthpool that makes you take a lot less damage and sometimes no damage
Like I keep saying, gotta go Marisa! She has more speed then Garcia so you should appreciate her more. lol. If she comes after Joshua she'll just end up looking sad on average she's gotta go before him. XD
Not 100% sure, but for chapter 3, I remember you can kill a bandit to get a key for the door of the bottom chest, then you can hand axe the thief to death (low hit rate but at least not getting dmg).
I've seen several people saying that trainee units are worthless, and that Ross in particular can never compare to his own father. This is an hour long masterclass in how that's bullshit.
I'm surprised he struggled just as much through the regular chapters as a hero. I would have thought the swords increasing his dodge and defence against axes would have eased things up a lot.
Sacred Stones is pretty easy, especially when you generally play on Normal which obviously you're not playing on but I'm bringing this up for one thing. The very first time I had ever seen an enemy double in Sacred Stones was one of the dog monsters attacking Garcia on a random encounter that was on the Pablo map. It might be the only time I've ever seen it in Sacred Stones honestly. Which just says a lot in regards to the difficulty of Sacred Stones, but also just how slow Garcia is. EDIT: Oh right, it wasn't just the first time I saw an enemy unit run up to one of my guys and double them, it was also the first time I had ever seen a monster unit crit. Needless to say, Garcia died and I learned I did not like Garcia much.

Unbalanced growths punish you bad. The good growth will overkill your stat to the cap, but your low stats will suffer.

See, I'd have rated Garcia below Erika purely for the amount of resets and the amount of sheer luck that was necessary to do this run. Without having gotten super lucky with that ridiculous skill, you'd have had to reset even more, or died three or four times as much. That's worse than Erika taking forever just to complete the run, if the character can't even complete the run without dumb luck.
Honestly a very fair point, I'll have to re-evaluate when I do the eventual Eirika re-run!

Yeah, sometimes we get certain impressions on characters from past runs we've had with them. Happens to me all the time.
I've never used Longbow on a warrior, but it may help during chapter 18 and other enemies.
I did realize after the fact that the longbow may have had a few pratical uses here and there.

I trained my Garcia up to A class with Bows and he was dodging quite a bit and doing major damage even with Iron bows. He is slept on with using a Bow as a Warrior.
Using bows on Warriors is always fun for massive damage, but in a solo run it's not super useful haha
@@kratosmvn_ Yeah. Definitely makes sense. Was fun watching your playthrough but that was brutal. I am currently doing the creature Campaign and on second playthrough of Lagdou Ruins. Ugh. That place can drive me nuts. I have had two instances on level 8 where Tana did the pierce glitch and softlocked my game and I had to restart. I love original hardware and play that way but it’s times like that where I think about emulation. Lol

Something I've been wondering as these challenges go on, and you've refined your run tactics, I wonder if you'd do noticeably better with some of the characters you've already played before you had your ideal runs/pathing down. Like if something from the last couple of runs would make you play better for Erika or something. Just a thought. So when are you doing the Orson run?

Still halfway through the video but I just want to say I respect a lot the guts with going warrior (or trying too, I haven't seem the ending yet). Yeah, sure, hero is better in almost all scenarios, but Garcia not being a warrior just feels wrong to me. He was born to spin.

Maybe the only "boon" of going Warrior would be to grind on Bow-Rank to use Longbow and attack for effective damage the Zombie Dragons. This could also help for the 2 range Gorgons but I don't think there is any other reason for going Warrior. Garcia needs to double the DK, with that low Avoid and Defense there is not another more consistent way for doing it.
Yeah, Warrior really lacked the speed that I thought I could overcompensate with other stats, but at least we tried.

Saw this when it came out, late to comment but Garcia is honestly one of my favorite units, not because he is awesome at base or has good growth potential, but because he’s almost always gonna be good enough and embodies 12th best unit. Most runs you keep him for 1-2 range axes at base, usually taking a hit and usually doing a good one back, and he can actually contribute a lot with his support for training projects like Neimi and Ross as well as for Seth to get a tasty crit and avoid boost.
That said, he’s definitely not the best candidate for soloing the game. He’d probably be better off on Ephraim route as Ewan gives a dracoshield instead and there’s a bit less pressure on you when you try to get the swordslayer so he’d basically one tap any sword enemies he needed to. Trying to get through ghost ship with him alone without a promotion… I’m not gonna lie I have no answer for that one. :p
Yeah I can imagine me having to beat Ghost Ship with only Garcia
3:32 Roughly... 20% speed, 40 levels... 8 speed... 15 total speed+promotion bonuses? Ooof.

Speed is the best Stat in Fire Emblem. Because it determines too many things. To the point that Speed should be weighted as if it is 2 Stats.

Man, talk about a rough one! Very early on I was wondering if you'd have to re-roll your level ups for speed. Not surprised you did! IMO the rating is more than fair considering the recorded game times don't really reflect the actual time you spent on the run, and there is just naturally going to be a subjective portion to the run anyway.
I'd be curious to see you re-run one of these bad characters but re-roll bad level ups from the very beginning, just to see what a difference it makes. It's been awhile since I've played any FE games but I'm definitely guilty of resetting a map here and there for my favorite characters' stats. 😅
Yeah it was difficult, but on those last few levels it felt necessary to reset lol.
If I always rerolled bad level ups I feel like a lot of runs would feel very much the same from each other so I kind of like leaving it up to chance.

At the end of this series, It would be sick to see a tier list on characters based on how they can solo the game.
I think I'll do that, post an official "tierlist" or something.
It's kinda crazy how much garcia changes as a unit depending on if he gets supports. Ross/Garcia (Fire/Fire) A gives +3 ATK +15 Hit/crit/avoid. You can then give him B rank with neimi (Fire) too for +5 ATK +25 hit/crit/avoid which pretty much makes him a berserker.
Even if you don't like neimi, you can do gilliam (Thunder) or dozla (Thunder) instead. It's only thunder but still gives him the important bonuses and is nearly as good
One of the few people I've seen that actually considers how powerful support chains are. Good support chains is enough to separate two identical units into separate tiers (provided they're not incredibly long to build) but even C support goes a long way.
To be fair with all of those units being worse than Garcia if you’re trying to use him you’d probably still be better off not using those units and having more reliable units instead to help Garcia front line better via having other bulky units with him and have him weakening but not one rounding enemies go to better recipients of exp.
Supports make a unit better, but all his support partners suck or is Seth who has far better things to do than baby sit him when he could be going an objective by himself or with another cav.
But yeah if you goal is just to make him as strong as possible because you want to to each their own, gl.
@@twigz3214 In what world is dozla a bad unit? Ross is also pretty solid since he joins so early. And sure, you can just use all the best units every single time but fact is fe8 is one of the easiest FE games, and rolling through it with a horde of cavalry and fliers is just kinda boring.
@@Donlot_ don’t think Ross is great when you have to drag him though 10 levels of being a trainee unit to effectively get Garcia 2, yeah he’ll be slightly better but for the amount of work you put in and if you gave Garcia that exp instead he never will be unless you tower grind or cap them which won’t happen until post game. Also yeah it’s fair to say Dozla is more meh than outright bad, he joins with passable stats that get the job done but fall off a bit as the game goes on.

Hmm, the higher strength cap did have its merits, but I still think as an avid Garcia fan, gaining speed to avoid being doubled by mid speed classes wouldve been to his benefit

If you ever have to restart a run for better growths i don't think people would mind if you added a couple of metis tomes in to simulate if you got extremely lucky on each level up

As anyone asked you about doing some minor rigging at the start.
Like, it doesn't seem yoi have hacked the games to guarantee averages, so, much like people would reset a pokemon run for good DVs, woukdn't make sense to rig some level ups early.
Like, how long would it take to reset runs untill garcia Proc speed the first 2 levels for example. And a few character swould benefit immensely from things like that.
No one has asked about anything like that, but I do touch on it slightly in the Ross run and maybe the Amelia one. Basically usually I won't reset for good levels early on, unless the character absolutely needs certain specific stats to get through Breguet I don't worry about that stuff too much.

You should do a syrene solo run and a moulder one. Oh yiu should try the trainees solo but keep them in their trainee classes and only upgrade them through that class line

I think not getting the dracoshield in favor of the secret book was a huge mistake. When you are fighting a ton of enemies per turn with a giant healthpool that makes you take a lot less damage and sometimes no damage

Not 100% sure, but for chapter 3, I remember you can kill a bandit to get a key for the door of the bottom chest, then you can hand axe the thief to death (low hit rate but at least not getting dmg).

Sacred Stones is pretty easy, especially when you generally play on Normal which obviously you're not playing on but I'm bringing this up for one thing. The very first time I had ever seen an enemy double in Sacred Stones was one of the dog monsters attacking Garcia on a random encounter that was on the Pablo map. It might be the only time I've ever seen it in Sacred Stones honestly. Which just says a lot in regards to the difficulty of Sacred Stones, but also just how slow Garcia is.
EDIT: Oh right, it wasn't just the first time I saw an enemy unit run up to one of my guys and double them, it was also the first time I had ever seen a monster unit crit. Needless to say, Garcia died and I learned I did not like Garcia much.
Yeah, he really is one of those rare units that won't necessarily double all enemies and it's kind of baffling.
