sad truth. this man loved his woman so much when he died his wife years later found his note to her and his unreleased song called "tell laurie i love her" and it broke her.

A great singer that was lose too soon. But, on a positive note had has a son, Jesse Keith Whitley, that has song some of his father's songs and he sounds just like his dad.
I'm glad you reacted to his version. My buddy was in his band. He's sitting down playing steel guitar in most of the band's videos. Btw Keith could imitate any of the old classic country stars as a joke. Great talent.
