    I love PRS guitars. I own several. With that being said, is a company really trying to convince me that switching from metal to plastic tuning keys is an upgrade? Not the best move, in my opinion.

      It's going back to how they used to be, right? I have a 2001 custom 24 and the pegs on that seem to be the same material, but black. They feel pretty nice too.

      @mustuddd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      These look really similar to the ones on my '19 core DGT, material wise anyway. I don't mind them on my DGT, but the shape of the new ones does put me off.

      Agreed. PRS is known for offering premium quality and premium aesthetics. These new tuners look cheap. Honestly, it's surprising they would do this.

      I think the issue is weight, not plastic. Consider that a very heavy set of tuners might loose some resonance from the neck compared to a lighter set of tuners. It's all a grey scale but marginal gains I suppose.

  • @PerryCodes
    @PerryCodes 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +81

    I love how Paul, with a straight face, can try and convince us that these plastic tuning pegs are his gift to us in order to help with the midrange... There needs to be someone at that company with the ability to say, "Paul. This is absolute BS. Knock it off."

    • @Case_

    • @LuisMorales-xr1gm

      If it is an upgrade going from the metal tuning pegs to plastic pegs, it would take some amazing ears to even hear the difference. I prefer the metal ones anyway. If it's a dream for Paul to finally have these tuning pegs on his guitars, then that's a dream come true for him, one of many,but the look of these just throw me off. They look big/awkward. They can always be replaced if they bother anyone that much

    I’m now the happy owner of this very guitar that I bought “used” from a dealer. It was built in 2023 and it is indeed the same guitar as on the Sweetwater order page. I 100% disagree about the darker stain area on the top being unacceptable and it’s not “black” at all in my possibly better lighting or indeed in sunlight, it’s dark purple. Regardless, the guitar is stunning and I got a big discount. Thanks for the free checkup Phillip! It’s a fantastic guitar!!!

    Cost saving measure sold as an upgrade. The plastic tuners on my silver sky were one of the things that made it feel cheap. Their traditional tuner knobs are one of the things that's uniquely them. DNA level as far as Im concerned. They feel quality. I hope this isn't going across the range.

    I love my PRS core . In the 2 years of ownership I played it maybe 15 times. I play my S2 every day. The core is a pristine perfect guitar. It sounds perfect. However playing it can feel like sketching on a work of art. My S2 is a working guitar it a grinder that demands to be played hard. These are my feelings. It’s the most I ever played for guitar. Watching this demo reminds me that Cores are luxury items the detail and pricing speak exclusivity but maybe further removed from practicality. Beautiful playing and a beautiful instrument

    I didn't like this update, I generally don't like the narrower field of the TCI pickups, they make this 24 fret guitar sound like what I don't like about 22 fret HH guitars.
    However I do like the fact that it offers something truly different to the Custom 24 experience rather than just another way to split your pickups :)

    Bought my first PRS guitar 3 weeks ago. An SE Pauls Guitar in Black Gold. The TCI pick ups sold it for me. The reduced drop in volume when switching to single coils was important to me. Typically I'm a "Thin Pattern" neck kind of guy (G&Ls with skinny necks = .820-.870) but this one felt right. Put those TCIs in a CE 24 with the bolt on Maple neck and I'll buy another PRS. Considered the Swamp Ash Special but recoiled at the inability to select the Single coil middle PUP alone as well as the weight(I am getting older after all...) Can't imagine ever selling this Paul's guitar, even though it's an SE.

    Yes, I can see the inability to swap out pickups might be an issue, though with this guitar sounding that good - and so many guitarists having additional models, too - that shouldn't be a serious issue. Thank you.

    The banjo music during the "dead spot" test cracks me up! I love the TCI Pickups. I'd never change them out. I'm not sure how the "higher gain" players would like them compared to the 85-15's. Love the "Paul's" pickups. It also makes perfect sense to put these pickups in the 24-08, while the Custom 24 retains the normal set of 85-15s. Tuner buttons look great to me, though given the option I'd always go metal over plastic \m/ :D BTW, that black "blotch" in the finish is simply the way the wood absorbed the stain; each piece of wood will absorb stains its own way-- as demonstrated by this example; I wouldn't give that a second thought~

    Regarding the uniquely shaped pickups: I’m generally one who is always considering modding my guitars. But my PRS (a SE CE 24) is the one guitar where the only mod I plan is to upgrade to the PRS locking tuners. Where my Fenders/Squiers feel to me like they exist to be modded and aren’t complete until I make them my own, the PRS-for me-feels like a cohesive whole that would lose something if modded.

    I got the PRS McCarty 594SE and had a half dozen problems with it. I had uneven frets that required a fret leveling. I had frets hanging off the side of the guitar, which could’ve either cut my fingers, but instead would grab the string and hold it off to the side if I bend the strings too far. The screws keep falling out of my bridge. But it sounds great and looks great except for those plastic tuning keys which I would prefer were metal.

    4600 ouch. I can get 3, 1500 Schecters or ESPs. I like PRS, just too much. Just my opinion.

    I own many PRS guitars and have yet to be disappointed. This Custom 24-08 is interesting because it has the TCI pickups that I like very much, the switching from the Paul’s Guitar but has the vibrato which is not on the Paul’s Guitar. It is my opinion that the PRS vibrato is the easiest to use as Jeff Beck did, without having to cut the arm. I’ve seen the video about the “sound improvements” brought by the new tuning machines, and am rather sceptical that they will make an audible difference. I will certainly want to try one out, but the 2024 releases make me think of Fender, same as the last one with a different colour and some lipstick. Thanks for the video Phil, I sincerely appreciate your hard work.

    I like that little "suction cup" gizmo used to remove the back plate. Wondering why I never thought of that.

    Had to laugh the "sock test" media comes from an ammo can. Can not say I don't have a few firearms that reside in cheap guitar cases! Great video!

    I love everything about PRS guitars except the location of the first volume knob. I find myself constantly turning it down by accident. Kind of nitpicking, but it was enough for me to trade it back in for a les paul. If you like strats, this wouldn't probably affect you.

    I like the look of the new tuning heads, but you can't pretend they're not negligible in sound, ESPECIALLY in a mix.

    So, no swapping pickups. That's a deal breaker.

      I mean on this guitar it would be quite an undertaking with the switches too.

      There was a flippant comment made when the price was gjven, 4.6k .That's a lot of oxfords, and a deal breaker too. There's heaps of guitars produced now. Many cut the mustard, however not all have well shielded cavity 😊

    I’m glad I got a 2023 10 top 24-08. I love the 85-15’3. Somebody should talk to Paul. He’s got his Paul’s guitar but now he messing with cus 24 line. If it ain’t broke don’t mess with it. Please. But I’ve got to say those TCI’s sound fantastic. Why not keep them the same as the other humbuckers

    In think the rolled fretboard is a little too rolled to the point it’s very easy to leave the fretboard when bending strings
