Thank you for this presentation. I took detailed notes, as Acts 8:37 is one of my go-to passages when discussing the Textus Receptus and critical text.
It is also the reading found in the Old Latin manuscripts that predate anything we have in Greek, including the Old Latin texts of ar, c, e, gig, h, l, m, ph, and r. Even the notes in critical text editions tell us that this verse existed in the Old Latin copies, some Coptic versions, the Ethiopic, Georgian, and Slavonic, the Syriac Peshitta and Armenian early Bible versions. It is also found in the Vulgate Clementine Bing search
Quoted in a footnote of 'Philip: Apostle and Evangelist. Configurations of a Tradition' p.76 - "Cottrel R. Carson ("Acts 8:37-A Textual Reexamination," USQR 51 [1997]: 57-78) argues that Acts 8:26-39 was originally the independent document of a particular community and that "it is the eunuch, not Philip, who is the story's focus" (p. 69)."
Dear Pastor Riddle, is it true that the Majority Text is really only using about 400 collated manuscripts out of the 5800? Example Romans 13:9 omission of ‘thou shalt not bear false witness’ seems to have more Greek manuscript evidence for it yet the Byzantine text omits it.
Thanks for pointing out this variant at Rom 13:9 as a problem for the Majority Text. I may have to do a WM podcast on this. I think the number of mss. available varies. More for the Gospels to relatively few for Revelation. Another reason the Majority text doesn't work.
There is one group thou hast neglected to mention, which are the King James Bible believers. I see Acts 8:37 in my copy of God’s perfect word, the King James Bible, therefore it belongeth therein, it is just that simple.
