I had the Sand rover, loved it, I remember it "hopping" round corners because of the no diff issue. YOu also needed a battery for the receiver and one for the motor.
although the 1981 version doesn't have the handling of the later model the idea of using fiberglass Sheets as suspension springs is a clever idea to make a cheap and cheerful RC car for the masses. to be Honest, although I never had one of these in my life the older model is the one that I liked the most in this video.
In my opinion, the Tamiya re-releases of the Sand Rover and Holiday Buggy are some of the worst re-releases to date. The originals are iconic buggies that shaped the RC hobby in the early 1980's and look absolutely amazing. The re-releases that are based on a completely different chassis just look all wrong. The body doesn't fit the chassis properly and it all looks like a very amateurish attempt at a buggy. At least the re-releases of the Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider kept the spirit of the originals! By the way, I have an original Holiday Buggy and I am searching for a NIB 1981 Sand Rover for my collection.
@@siivel I have recently started a project to restore my vintage Holiday Buggy. See it in close-up detail, including all the original Acoms electronics by visiting my channel, BlackSeaRC.
1981 is a beauty, l don't like the chassis on the latter one nor the holes in the body or wheels. The latter one would look a lot better in my opinion with grasshopper wheels.
Agree with you on new body is not nice with all the openings. I will some how cover the front with some caps and rear with a cut wooden box or something. The new body does ruin it.
Tamiya made no effort on this rerelease, its just a generic chassis with a sand rover body shell on it and it didn't even have the stolen number plate ☹
Agree totally and I wouldn't even describe it as a re-release. The iconic Sand Rover and Holiday Buggy names don't deserve to be used on such an inferior product. Just put a different beach buggy body on the DT-02 chassis that actually fits and it would've been far more reasonable. I just started a project to restore my vintage Holiday Buggy with all original electronics. Take a look at it in detail on my channel, BlackSeaRC.
the dt02 chassis is nice to drive but i don't like the poor fitting of the Sandrover/Holiday buggy on it. i even wonder why there aren't any aftermarket Parts for the looks of them. Truly a real Enthusiast will build these and a few Sheets of ABS will make a big improvement, especially on the sides where the biggest gaps are.... For me a nice try to make a classic buggy modern, but not the best result by Tamiya for me....

I had an original Sand Rover in 1982, which I will always prefer. I'm going to get a rere holiday buggy soon. 😊👍

Just been given a vintage buggy from my uncle. This is very helpful. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching!
What's the point of the re release without the STOLEN rear plate...those little touches are what gave it iconic status
Stance of the original, handling of the 2011. Just needs that front end narrowing and original front wheel sizes

spot on the original sand rover and the holiday buggy was some of Tamiya's iconic buggies

This would be even more interesting with a little driving, even indoors on a smooth surface.
Thank you for your comment! Cannot agree more :)

I like old one (1981ver) rather than new one. especially the front wheel separation of the new one is too much greater. Due to it, It looks very ugly.
