There was a time when this song was actually all the rage and not a meme. Stupid rumors about Rod and his personal life led to this song actually starting the loss of his blues cred. Too bad really, this song is a banger and you have to really have confidence to sing this song in those pants.

  • @lashutterbug

This song came out at the height of disco in the late 70s, and Rod took a huge hit from his fan base for releasing it, because most rock fans at the time HATED disco. If you compare it to his early 70s material like "Maggie May" and "Every Picture Tells A Story", you'll notice that it sounds almost nothing like those earlier songs. As part of the disco genre, it works, but as far as Rod's career goes, it was a sharp dividing line between his rock roots and the 80s pop which he would dive deep into afterward.

One of the songs I love that he does with sting and Bryan Adams is called All for Love. Beautiful song really good. Forever Young's a good one, Young Turks, rhythm of my heart I think it's what it's called. Have I Told You Lately That I Love You is probably my most favorite of his slow songs. Rod Stewart has a very unmistakable voice. That's for sure.

Just because I felt it was so suggestive and I honestly out of shame felt it was too gay....Now that I'm 51 yrs old after all these years I had grown out of that immature stage of my life feel this song has a great beat and I will admit I like this song and other songs that Rod Stewart came out with....

Rod Stewart, Carmine Appice (the legendary drummer) and Duane Hutchins (keyboards) are given credit for writing the song but Rod Stewart settled out of court with a Brazilian artist named Jorge Ben Jor for using the melody in his song "Taj Mahal" and also using the string arrangement from the song "Put Something Down On It" by Bobby Womack. The band donated all royalties from this song to UNICEF. As other people have mentioned, their older fans backlashed against a disco release, with good reason because disco sucks and this guy was known for blues and rock and disco was seen as selling out. That may have been why the band donated the royalties to UNICEF, that's just speculation, but in the 80's when MTV started almost half of their videos were by Rod Stewart. Literally, on day one they had like 37 videos and like 15 were Rod Stewart! Later in the 80's he had huge MTV video hits like Infatuation, Young Turks, People Get Ready, Some Guys Have All The Luck, Tonight I'm Yours, Forever Young, and so many others! Thanks for this reaction Scribe!
