I've always loved rockhounding in the rain. Makes finding agates and jasper much much easier in my opinion. Great adventure! Thanks for sharing!

Hummocky ferns always look so ancient to me! I expect to see little dinosaurs pokin around in there!

The floor of the forests in the coastal mountain range are just covered in ferns of all types. My favorite is the licorice fern which truly tastes like black licorice along the base of the stems. The are wild and beautiful and watching a wild turkey pop up from a huge spray of fern is definitely a treat! Have an awesome week my friend!

Thank you very much for the view and comment ToR, very much appreciated! Sorry the video quality isn't the best, hopefully better as weather improves. While i've never had the chance to visit NZ, I've heard the some of the mountains there are very similar to here and it looks to be a very beautiful place to live. Am thankful myself to live in an area with so much beauty just minutes out my door. The coastal range here is not very tall but remains fairly uninhabited in many parts with populations on each side of the range and is fun to hike and explore. Thanks again for the view, hope you have a great week ahead!

No need to apologise my friend, I enjoyed it very much. Yes it felt like I was home watching walking through there with you both. Its special when it feels like you're the only humans.

Man I sure do love rock hounding out in 40 degree rain with numb hands lol. I noticed you do too haha. Great color variation and quality in the jasper there, thanks Shaughn! The fact that you have found blue jasper is very intriguing to me. You gotta show a video of some of the purple and blue. That is just awesome :)

Just was itching to get out for a hunt back then as the lockdown started. Feeling the same about now, really stir crazy and looking forward to this years hunts with much enthusiasm! appreciate the view and comment, hope you have a nice rest of your weekend!

Yeah, that jasper does have some nice vibrant colors, doesn't it?! Seems to have been silicified later too (hence the agate seams), which would help harden it too. I wonder if that softer one you picked up wasn't maybe calcareous ooze instead of siliceous?

Thanks for the view and comment TF, much appreciated. Sorry for the quality of the video, older GoPro 3+ is starting to show its age, like me! haha Typically the colored jaspers around Oregon are of earth tones so is nice to get some more vibrant stuff now and then for tumbling. Also, it's the only place i've found purple and blue jaspers anywhere. You might be/probably are absolutely right, as the density, weight of the material is right but the hardness just isn't there and just won't take a polish. Its not porous, just doesn't polish and when broken up fragments without conchoidal fracturing.

Good stuff man! I don't if I would of crossed that stream but it seemed worth it.

Thanks for the comment CR, much appreciated! Yeah, during one of my other crossings I mentioned that if it looked dangerous on video...its because it is! But I cut that out, for the most part I didn't go deeper than my waist anywhere and if the flow was heavier found places to cross where it wasn't as swift/deep. Sure I love rocks and am willing to take a few little risks to get something nice but am very aware of my abilities and at my age find no reason to endanger myself or others for a pastime, nothing to prove to anyone anywhere anymore! haha Hope youre doing well and having a nice week so far. Talk again soon~

Thanks Ruby, appreciate the view and comment...was nice to get back out for a hunt after months even if it was pouring rain! Am sorry for the poor video quality, hopefully get some better images next time and need to keep working on the music/sound stuff. When editing it sounded much better than the posted video, not sure what changes after upload but am trying to get better. Thanks again and hope you have a great week ahead!

@@rubyd3745 Aw cmon, nothing can be that bad and the fact that you take the time to share some of your experience here on earth with the rest of us is appreciated, I do get it that some folks take this stuff to another level and do the whole bit for a living and such, for me, its just another way of saying I existed. Besides the stone/rocks I am knapping, shaping, cutting and polishing etc there won't be anything left on earth after I'm gone to say I existed so this is a video record for anyone who cares to watch. On another note...I will say that am super grateful to have solid earth under my feet and so in that matter, I love rocks of all kinds too! haha

What's funny is he didn't know I threw it at him until I posted this video. I laughed while making this post cause I know he didn't see me do it while we were out there! 😂🤣👍 It's crazy how many times I reach for something hoping it's really nice but ends up just being plain old quartz and basalt. Don't get me wrong, quartz crystals can be very beautiful, but chunks and seams of plain white quartz can get a little boring unless I'm chasing gold! haha

Nobody can buy smaller entry level homes. I am very fortunate that I bought my home in 2014 before the prices really skyrocketed. But now the town has been built up around me and my street is a lot busier than it used to be and I can’t afford to move because even with my equity double what I paid, another place is way out of reach and interest is high. It sucks. My kids are never going to be able to afford their own place. Even manufactured homes are over $100k plus space rent.

    What state are you in?

OR....This video is in Oregon, north part of the state between Portland and Tillamook on a river that feeds into the Wilson river. (up beyond the jones creek campgrounds)The water is cold and super clear. Up there I tend to find low quality chalcedony with a few agates sometimes with quarts pockets. Mostly I go there looking for really bright colored jaspers. Sometimes up there the colors of the jaspers just don't appear natural but they are unique IMO so I go back every few years for a look.
