Karazao (also known as karazao [1]) is a type of Japanese farming tool used for threshing grains such as wheat and soybeans. It is also called karao, renshame, and kururi. It has the shape of a long bamboo pole with a rotating short stick attached to the tip. Hold this pole and thresh the grain spread out on the mat by beating it while rotating the short stick. Such a threshing method is called 'threshing' as opposed to 'combing' such as senhadaki. Okinawa's nunchaku is said to have been invented based on the tozao. In Japan, it is called a shell-beating stick, and the metal fittings that connect the pole and the short stick are iron chains, and the short stick is made of iron.

唐棹（からざお/ からさお[1]：殻竿とも）は日本の農具の一種で、麦や大豆など、穀物の脱穀作業に使用する道具。唐竿、連枷、くるりなどとも呼称する。長い竹竿の先端に、回転する短い棒を取り付けた形状をしている。この竿を持ち、むしろの上に広げられた穀物を、短い棒を回転させながらたたき、脱穀する。このような脱穀方法を、千歯扱きなどの「梳き」に対して「打穀」と呼ぶ。 沖縄のヌンチャクも、唐棹をもとに考案されたと言われている。日本ではお殻打ち棒といわれ、竿と短い棒を連結していた金具は鉄鎖、短い棒は鉄造りとなった。
