  • "Things Even a Monkey Should Know" is a show about things EVERYONE should know about doing fixes around the house, yard and cars. This time, I have decided I do not like having typical looking appliances. I am painting my washer. This is fun, I promise!

    Years ago I had a laundromat and when we decided to paint the ancient dryers, I was given THIS wonderful TIP: If you set the alkyd paint in a bucket of very hot water, it goes on MUCH smoother, and actually can flow enough to even out the brush strokes. If you have a tiny can, it will heat better. (DO NOT put paint on any heater)!!!

    Hey, loved it and your sense of creativity. I too love color and often look at something and think ...why not? I'm not as bold as you. I would only do a solid color but I looked at your video because I looked at my white washer that is still in good shape and thought...how boring! Thanks again and Happy painting! Great info.

    This was a worthy project and a well done video. Asking why they aren't left white is like telling me that I should leave the family coloring book blank. I'm thinking of color schemes that might shine some extra brightness upon an unlikeable chore performed in a dismal basement that would surely benefit from some color infusion. Thanks for the idea and instructions

    This was awesome! Thank you. totally agree that plain white laundry machines are pretty boring. Adding this to my project list :)
    With this paint, do you think I could order the 3 primary colors and then mix from there if I had a design using a lot of different colors?

    • @MonkeysKnow
      @MonkeysKnow  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jim Ollis That's great! Glad to know there will be another happily colored machine out there soon. :-)
      You could definitely order the primaries and mix them! These paints mixed very well and were pretty true to the rules of color theory. You may want to order a white also, as the red and blue are quite rich, and make for a dark color pretty quickly. I ordered these from blick.com. They have a great selection and were the best price I could find. Best of luck and have fun!

    @6:40 actually, they typically do recommend you secure the drain hose. That way the pressure doesn't launch it out of the drain and spray dirty water everywhere. Doesn't look like that could happen with your setup, but just wanted to point out that is a fairly normal step.

    Thats a great idea and execution on that washer. You remind me of another youtuber so much so that I have to think your related. Kirsten Joy Weiss is her name and she shoots fun with gun videos. I love your art also and wish you all the success you could hope for.

    I wanna paint my stacked washer and dryer a metallic color. I hate white as well and purchasing a darker color cost a lot of money. Thank you for this

    • @MonkeysKnow
      @MonkeysKnow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out the One Shot Paint metallics. They REALLY look like whatever they’re trying to emulate (copper or silver or whatever). I have also had good results mixing metallics with their regular colors (like black and silver, which made a nice dark metallic gray, or brown and copper which made a more interesting dark copper color). Have fun! :-)

    How did you get the dark blue color it's beautiful and exactly the color I'm trying to get!

    • @MonkeysKnow
      @MonkeysKnow  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got it by mixing a little of the primary red with the primary blue. Do it in small increments because the red is a very strong color and will quickly take your blue from a dark violet blue to a bright violet! Have fun!

  • @anon31415
    @anon31415 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fun. I'm not as wild as you. Given me ideas, though. Do you think the paint would withstand the temperatures of an electric range? What was the brand of paint, again?
    Thanks!

    • @MonkeysKnow
      @MonkeysKnow  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +anon31415 Not sure if it would withstand those temps or not. However, it is used for pinstriping cars, so I would think it could withstand a fairly high temperature. This is an enamel paint and enamels are often used in higher temperature applications. This one dries to a hard, glossy finish.
      The brand is called One Shot. I found it to be least expensive (and a very good selection of colors) on blick.com . Hope this helps!

    Could I use this paint on my toaster and toaster oven?????? I love this idea it came out so nice on your washer and dryer. I can't find any vids that show painting small kitchen appliances anywhere, But I have some ideas of what I want to do to all of my white appliances. Like my blender my hand mixer and my kitchen aid mixer. This video sparked so many ideas for me so thanks.

    • @MonkeysKnow
      @MonkeysKnow  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think it would depend on how hot your toaster and toaster oven get. I have not had any troubles with it on my dryer, but not sure it heats up on the outside as much as small appliances. You could definitely do your blender and mixer! Happy painting!! :-)
