I agree about the curve. It’s one of the things that drew me to the previous versions. I’m still working with an older Alienware 3440x1440 monitor, but the Samsung was always on my radar because of that curve.
@@Britalex no, still using the same old monitor. Not too much gaming lately, mostly work and general productivity, so not been a need (or resources) to upgrade.

Could you put the G9 Neo and G9 OLED side by side and compare them? There are some comments on Reddit suggesting that the differences are not obvious or like night and day when directly compared (a lot of G9 Neo aspects are better). The first impression is often the strongest, where you may notice small improvements that seem gigantic. However, over time, perceptions can change, leading to doubts about whether your initial opinion was correct.

Nice video and certainliy one of the best OLED monitor! But the deal breaker for me is the lack of one USB-C cable solution for both Display + Power. I've been using my Dell Ultrasharp 32" inch monitor for years with that one USB-C cable for both display + power and it's been an absolutely bliss. Samsung wired DEX works flawlessly. Windows PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android phones, etc, all can connect conveniently to my Dell monitor with that one simple and elegant USB-C cable. Why not Samsung OLED G9?!! Come on Samsung.
Can't thank you enough for tweeting about the £500 price drop on release day. I instantly arranged a return. Not had much luck with Samsung delivering a new one that hasn't been opened already, but that's a long story 😴
Very welcome! I was lucky someone told me about it or I wouldn't have seen it either! Sending out opened boxed - perhaps because so many people are returning them for the discount? lol.
@@PeteMatheson Probably, they must've had a LOT of returns because my exchange for the opened one was also already opened! £1,400 for an opened unit is just insane to me, from Samsung of all places too. I'm currently in the process of arranging another exchange... hopefully this one won't be opened
the lack of 1000R curve means this is a no go upgrading from the Neo G9. I still have my original 1800R CRG9 and it is abhorrent to shift over to look at the top corner. I prefer VA over 1800R.
@@PeteMatheson This monitor does support dual input using multi view. Its in the settings bar you showed when Tizen was "stuck", you were hovering over it.
I’m confused. They say there’s no PBP but there is something called ‘Multi-View’ - isn’t that pretty much the same thing? I’d like to see a demo of how it works, and whether it can do 2 x HDMI sources side by side, or whether it’s limited to Tizen apps and one other HDMI or DP source.
Looks like a lovely bit of kit… though when/if I was going to switch for dual to a single monitor I think not having a 1000R curve would be a deal breaker for me.

Thank you! I have been waiting for this review as I am thinking of upgrading from the Neo G9. Can I please seek your input on the LG UltraGear 45" which you previously reviewed and this G9 OLED? How do they perform side by side on: Resolution and text during productivity? 800R vs 1800R? Monitor dimensions - the LG is a bit taller while the G9 OLED has the greater long width (albeit less immersive when it comes to immersion)? The LG's matte screen vs the Samsung's glossy? How would you now rate the two for gaming and productivity?
@@PeteMatheson Thank you. What about as an all-rounder upgrade to the Neo? For both productivity and gaming? On the Neo, I can fit 2 big windows side by side, or say 3-4 smaller windows for productivity. Does the LG have that option albeit different arrangement due to the greater height? Is the glossy screen on the G9 much better than the matte for the OLED display?

Streamers love to fill the screen with tiny windows all over to showcase the great real estate here. However, we must note this is not so great when we enable screen scaling. Reading the tiny letters in 4K at the 100% scaling format is a no-go for most people. I think 125% to 150% is close to the minimum for most of us. That cuts down on the already limited verticality of the widescreen format and affects the viewable surface even more; forcing us to scroll continually when reading.

Hello Pete! Thank you for your review videos, I watched the ones on the other odyssey G9's and the one on the 45" LG OLED monitor. I'm on the search of a monitor and after watching your videos I'm confused now because I don't know which one to choose! Would you recommend the 45" OLED over de G9 OLED because of the better compatibility with Mac?
I presume this video is for the niche audience that already have a 49" Ultra widescreen. Sitting on a WQHD, hard to see what the benefit of this screen is aside from more screen real estate for work. But then again, is it really THAT much more useful? Isn't it redundant when you play games which only support up to WQHD in the vast majority of cases?
Quite a few of the big titles support the extra space, and with a wider FOV. And yes, I’d say it’s well worth it over multiple screens. I’d much rather have this, than 2x 27” 4K displays. Personal preference of course!
I'd say this review is for those who don't have a 49" ultrawide, because those who do (like myself) are debating whether it is worth an upgrade on OLED alone. Whereas every other user will have more dimensions for change. I've also tried multiple screens. I have no idea why people prefer that over a single ultra or super ultra wide. The extra connections, the reliance on desktop software, the bugs, the bezel, the mouse issues moving between screens. Ugh.
When I look at the link you posted for this monitor in Amazon, it comes up with what I think is this monitor G93SC one price but then there is the G95SC for a couple of hundred more, is this the newer version? It does say OLED but with NEO!!!
Samsung should cut the monitor into half and sell them as G7 OLED. By the way, the pixel arrangement of G9 OLED is different compare to G8 OLED (first gen QD-OLED) and also pixels on G9 OLED are bigger.
Some strange choices on this monitor. I'm looking for a monitor with USB-C video in because I use DEX quite a lot sometimes from my fold 3 and a single cable to charge and display would be ideal. I notice one of the menus was bragging about DEX but the best you could do is, i'm presuming, wireless DEX which I find annoyingly laggy.
Amazing channel and thank you for all the monitor reviews. How do I connect this to my Mac book pro m3 using thunderbolt for charging and display instead of using hdmi ? Really looking forward to just use one wire for connection.
So they actually released a slightly newer model that has USB C with power delivery, that fixes basically all of the issues I have with connecting a Mac!
I own an original odyssey g9 but it stopped working after roughly a year. I loved it while it lasted but I am not happy with samsung. I understand I am one of few that it has happened to but I am skeptical about buying another monitor from Samsung. That bring said this oled version looks incredible! Should I feel safe pulling the trigger?
I have a Mac Pro 2013 (trash can) and I'd like to get this monitor. Will they work well together? If so, which connections would I use to connect them?
I am looking to buy this monitor (Oled) version. I just can't get over the wide black line all around the outside of the screen. It's seriously keeping me from buying like 4 of them.
yeah i loved the look but all the cons really put me off, im a mac guy.. im coming from an old 27" imac so i really want to keep the same vertical height and just make it wider, is there anything out there that does this or do i need multiple 27" monitors?
I upgraded from the original and I really miss the curve. I'm also not happy with the price drop. I mounted mine to the wall and hid the cables in the wall and I just cannot face taking it all apart to send it back only to do it all again. £400 down the drain.
In Australia, it is not available until end of July. Curiously, they have an interest registration list where on release, those who registered get a "special gift", whatever that is.
It's still a pretty heavy screen - other monitor arms *might* work, but I checked some other fairly heavy duty arms and they were just over their weight rating. The Ergotron mount manages the weight easily!
Don't need the Caldigit dock. I use a STARTECH USB C to DisplayPort Adapter ($69 CAD) and the Samsung DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor with my M2 Mac Studio. Works great at 5120 x 1440, 240 Hz.
@PeteMatheson thank for all your excellent reviews. Could you give me your opinion about which monitor is the best for me. I'm working as developer and I'm looking for a oled screen 49" with full support of usb c (thunderbolt better). I use a MacBook Pro and I'm not a gamer. My idea is to use just on cable usb-c to charge and display my Mac. Could you give some references. Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Personally I'd prefer the Samsung over the LG. I love the 49". I found the 55" Ark to be too much - but I'm about to try out the 57" G9 Neo so will figure out if that's too big!
We just got ours today, and it arrived completely bricked. Had power but it was not show any display. Wouldn’t even open the menu. We called Samsung support and before they even tried to trouble shoot, they just told us to see send it back. Beyond disappointed that a $1,600 monitor would arrive useless.

Yes very relevant for me also. I need to be able to switch between computers without hazzle. And my laptop needs to be easily connected on the fly..
Samsung should cut the monitor into half and sell them as G7 OLED. By the way, the pixel arrangement of G9 OLED is different compare to G8 OLED (first gen QD-OLED) and also pixels on G9 OLED are bigger.
Yes but the fringes are still horrible.
I wonder if a USB C to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter cable would work.
Hi, can you please let me know what is the webcam that you're using? And is it works with mac?
Pete! You are AMAZING!!! Thank you so much!! Just ordered my 49" OLED from your recommendation! Thanks for the links
I am looking to buy this monitor (Oled) version. I just can't get over the wide black line all around the outside of the screen. It's seriously keeping me from buying like 4 of them.
Best buy has a huge sale on these right now, all of them. Up to 900 bucks off
idk, i really like that 1000R curve, i'm looking to upgrade from the G5. maybe the next OLED model/year brings it back
Yeah agreed, 1000R is niiiice
Hey, will it work at 240Hz with a Mac studio m2 max?
yeah i loved the look but all the cons really put me off, im a mac guy.. im coming from an old 27" imac so i really want to keep the same vertical height and just make it wider, is there anything out there that does this or do i need multiple 27" monitors?
Do they have the G-sync on the OLED??
I thought only the G9 & G9 Neo have G-sync, not the OLED...
Advertising it as a gaming monitor and make it 1800R. So genius Samsung.
Great review! Thank you for the info this helped a lot.
What size desk would you recommend for the 49” model. I want to have enough room for the monitor along with my PC tower without it looking to cramped.
Hey do you still need the ekstra heavy duty for that arm with that new monitor ? Kind regards Thomas
It's still a pretty heavy screen - other monitor arms *might* work, but I checked some other fairly heavy duty arms and they were just over their weight rating.
The Ergotron mount manages the weight easily!
Hello! Did you need an adapter to mount it to the monitor arm?
@@aaronkwan9625 nope since it is not that heavy so no need of it :)
Hey Pete!
I’ve got a m1 MacBook Pro, what 49 inch screen do you recommend out of the lg 5k or the Samsung g9?
Thanks brother!
Can I use a simple usb c to displayport adapter with my mac M2 air to get full use out of this monitor mate?
Is this the one from Costco? Does it light up in the back?
Hello!! Love the video. Just bought the QHD but after seeing this wondering if it’s worth the $340 more and $300 more for the dock. HELP!! Lol
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
please add link of screenshot of Cinemascope 21:9 content on the 32:9 OLED. Avatar (aspect ratio 16:9 / 17,1:9) was not the best example.
Between this and lg 45 which you think is better for productivity media comsuption and gaming? Thanks a lot
Personally I'd prefer the Samsung over the LG. I love the 49". I found the 55" Ark to be too much - but I'm about to try out the 57" G9 Neo so will figure out if that's too big!
why is no one talking about the usb and the useage with 2 PCs??
Is it 4K ? 🤔
We just got ours today, and it arrived completely bricked. Had power but it was not show any display. Wouldn’t even open the menu. We called Samsung support and before they even tried to trouble shoot, they just told us to see send it back. Beyond disappointed that a $1,600 monitor would arrive useless.
