I saw Leon perform last night.... what an enjoyable evening! He said his doctor told him to take one pill 3 times a day. He replied to him "I can't do that"
Once I stumbled - in my hectic life - and heard the softest of voices whisper a tune to my ear. Time was still and the clouds rolled no further until the tip of a hat signaled all was clear.
Music itself seemed to create this man. From seemingly out of nowhere he appeared and the music flowed through him like water. Music seems to have a way of doing that. It is a force of nature as sure as there is wind or fire or water. Every once in a while, it fashions a creature and uses it as a conduit. And then, it's gone. Farewell Leon, farewell Miles, farewell Chic. Hopefully another will come along soon. There are so many pretenders and so many near misses these days.
OH LEON! i do not understand why you are not among the most well known singers of your time, which i am pleased to see is STILL GOING STRONG!You are in a class of one, NOBODY SOUND LIKE YOU! MARRY ME!
I'm aging myself but I got turned onto Leon Redbone back in the early 70s. There is no one else like him, that's for sure. My ex-husband had a club in Mesa, Arizona (after we moved from L.A.) and Leon played in the club one night so I finally got to meet him. It was a thrill.
Leon Redbone is keeping this great music and the style it was played in back in the 20's and 30's alive. The cat's a master of the idium. He's the link to men like Blind Willie McTell and all those street serenaders. Leon, always a pleasure.
i haven't heard anyone whistle like this since i was a boy in 1961 or there about. my pepere could whistle like that. a total lost art like so many things. thank you so much for this Leo. p.
Leon and Leo Kottke are playing here on the 22nd of this month! I'm stoked, I've seen Leo Kottke here once before when I was first getting into guitar. Inspirational to say the least. . .
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Leon live twice. My father used to sing me some of these songs when I was three or four...I'm 52 now, and they're still magic. He's good by himself, but I really enjoyed him with a few extra musicians, expecially clarinet, tuba etc.
Yeah, that's a shame, Gut. I just saw him last night in Three Oaks Michigan. He played a full hour and a half set. Simply fantastic, and a great sense of humor. He had the audience laughing between every song. His whistling portion of his show almist had you in tears. It was amazing.
One of the coolest and most unique shows I have ever seen. Never heard a song of his I didn't like. Now he's entertaining everyone in Heaven. Thank you and God bless you Leon from Patrick
damnit.....You were the shit Leon, gonna miss you and your wonderful voice and guitar work. We lost another great one.....hope to see you on the other side of the clearing cat.
Yeah ... But how could we NOT talk about that guy? You know, he's just too cool. Kind when the temperature starts dropping, people are just naturally talk about how cool it is! Thanks for sharing!
My daddy would have loved this guy!! I know that I do. Hope he'll perform at my coffeehouse in the near future (It's a big coffeehouse)! We love him in Carlisle, MA!!!! Oh yes we do! And I talk about him ALL the time when he's gone. ;-)
Leon Redbone has been around since at least 1970 - saw him at the St Lawrence Centre in Toronto in '73. Don't compare him to a flash-in-the-pan like Tiny Tim.
believe it or not but im trying to lead my guitar playing and voice towards leons style, but i dont think ill ever be able to wistle like that. great vid
nature looks like a painted canvas when he sits before he has the power to change your way of perception 🎉 and he’s not death ☠️ how could he? probably the best player ever a magician
I remember he had a song "I wanna be seduced". I think it was part of a Doctor Demento release. If anyone has it to upload, it would be nice to hear it again.
Man.... He is such a fantastic guitar player. Once, just ONCE I would like to see him bust out a Jimmy-Page-type guitar solo. It would be no problem for him, obviously. =)
@220denyse I talk that way about him while he's alive. He did that Budweiser commercial some years ago and privately admitted that Bud is crap; that's one of his better moments.
You don't have to like him, but Tiny Tim was not a flash-in-the-pan. Yeah, he was an odd fellow, no two ways about it. But he was an acknowledged expert on that old music, he performed it 'cause he loved it, and he sang it from his heart.

So sad you've left us. Thanks for the best antidote to stress I've ever heard!
RIP Leon, we will talk real nice about you now that you're gone.
Once I stumbled - in my hectic life - and heard the softest of voices whisper a tune to my ear. Time was still and the clouds rolled no further until the tip of a hat signaled all was clear.
There is a huge void in the world of entertainment since Leon is gone and nobody is ever gonna fill it.

When asked if he ever got excited, he said: "Oh I did once, I got over it". Great music from one cool cat. Thanks Leon.

O
How true made me think of my dad who was born in 1915 and whistle like that most of his lifeb
Good ol Leon! We need more whistling in the world, he makes it sound so sweet.
I love to whistle and do it whenever nothing else to do. I am awed and jealous of Leons whistling skills. Guess I just need to keep practicing.

You also now have your very own C.W. Stoneking to add to that list.
@220denyse I talk that way about him while he's alive.
