Great video. I’ve gotta be honest, I seem to be one of the few that has always really really likes this watch. There is so much nuance and much more than meets the eye. The case, lugs, and crystal design are awesome!
Seems to be the consensus, or at least most find the case to be beautiful but the dial is a disappointment. My theory is that their designers liked the Jacob & Co. Astronomias and they made their own conservative interpretation of it. I think the similarities are too much to be a coincidence: The case is essentially the same design. Same mostly gold-blue colour scheme too. The sapphire uses a curved design to stand out, only in Jacob & Co. it's convex while AP doesn't need the space and is more conservative so they went concave. In both it's a design feature using the curvature to stand out. Even the case flanks: Jacob & Co. has sapphire glass in the flanks and in APs the design is the same and in some Code 11.59 versions there is ceramic in the same place, giving a similar effect. Lugs are also basically identical to some Astronomias. Then of course the movement and dial is totally different from Jacob & Co. as they have to be. That's why the movement is good old trusty AP and doesn't really affect anything in positive or negative because it's not really visible and isn't problematic to adapt to the new design. But that's why the dial doesn't work: that's the part they had to figure out how to balance between traditional and new, and they couldn't think of a good new design for this case. But in the dials the similarities continue: Code 11.59s tend to mainly have nearly identical lacquered colour with the star-sky effect as so many Jacob & Co. Astronomias, of course usually combined with the gold.

Actually the first Seiko Astron was released in 1969 that triggered the Quartz Crises. Royal Oak was designed in 1971, and produced in 1972, so technically the Quartz crises started in late 60s and made the impact in early 70s.
Nothing in common with the AP design language. It’s so overdone it became ugly. AP relies heavily on their Royal Oak and cannot produce anything alike. Simplicity should be key in their design is my humble opinion.
Totally agree.... stick on what you do well AP because with this kind of stuff you are trying to reach the patek’s level but you are still far in this category.. you may even lose some of Royal oak’s fan because of that.
I can tell you have spent a lot of time producing this video and the shots are excellent. Same can’t be said about comparing an 11.59 to a Fashion watch. Absolutely. Is it a true AP and more than a worthy successor to the Royal Oak? Absolutely.
IMHO, you are just comparing the Code 11.59 to the Royal Oak. That's unfair, it's like comparing The Beatles to any other band. Judged it on it's own merits, I believe it is simply gorgeous. And I say this as someone who has both a 41mm Royal Oak Blue dial 15500ST.OO.1220ST.01 and the smoked blue dial on rose gold 3-hander 15210OR.OO.A002KB.03. Yes, the Royal Oak is the king of my collection, no doubt whatsoever. But it's also true that l love my Code, love the fact that it is not a homage to the lode stone, like the offshore is (although that was a great move). Love the fact that it is designed to within an inch of it's life. I can't believe you have so much hate for this beautiful thing.
Not sure why and how is the Code compare to RO in the first place. It is a new lineup with obviously no history nor it is trying to replace RO as they are two very different watches. It is trying to create its own history.. Overall I think AP did well on the Code especially with the new dial variants. Code is not RO and RO is not AP. Having the right perspective allows the right appreciation of the watch.
Again AP are pushing the envelope and being bold. Beautiful watch. The quality is in the details. Most pateks look like rotary from afar but haute horology is about the execution of the finer details. The code 11.59 will be a classic
also you see how thick that watch is, i'm disappointed to learn that they just produce mostly one size of the case to fit different movements. I don't think a simple watch with same should be the same thickness as a watch with complication
Poor AP for trying too hard to come out with what they hope another icon watch like the RO. Genta would be rolling in his grave with this department store looking design watch even with the overly design case.
Dial looks like a mall watch for sure. Case shape has alot of complexity but it adds nothing to the watch for me. I dont like the Royal Oak, it looks very dated to me. At least it made it statement though
Thanks for the review. The usual high quality is displayed. However I disagree completely with your take. I think this is an amazing looking watch that speaks to the past, present and future
It might not be another future ‘icon’ but unnecessarily harsh and unfair comparison to RO. It isn’t a RO and well done for them for not perpetuating this. Perhaps it inspires them to offer something else tomorrow
When this watch was released,I thought, wtf were they thinking??Such an iconic brand, coming up with a new product looking like that?? Someone should be in jail for this. Some watches get more desirable through the years, but this one is not among them.At least in my eyes.
Code 11.59 has grown on me after recent releases. New calibers are engineering pinnacle in watchmaking. We should bear in mind that it is not easy to develop a brand new concept after legendary Royal Oak. One constructive feedback though: please lower background music volume and speak faster in new videos. Thanks.
wow. Impressive video. Have been trying to get Royal Oak but have not been successful. Went to AP boutique and was told right away i will have to buy this to get in line for Royal Oaks. It is crazy that these luxury brands do not care. Same is true for Rolex and PP Or Ferrari and Porsche. Instead of wasting money i might as well buy on secondary market which is now collapsing. This video made my decision easier. I will not buy what i do not want to buy to get what i want. Thank you Hafiz
I do agree. As much as I love the RO, the best watchdesign ever! We have to admit that the new movements are top as I might experience. However this watch does more harm than good to the company. This may tell something about the management!
To be honest, I never knew why they were popular in the first place, but kept my words to myself, as a case of to each to their own taste. I actually like this new watch more than their other watches too. It's a shame that it's so unpopular. They should have released a lot of watches at once instead, and made it look like they were simply diversifying their collection.
i've seen this watch in person, not impressed. The fact that people only care about it because it's AP and sometimes they want you to buy 11.59 before they offer you an royal oak. The 11.59 is bland, not interesting, also somehow a cheap feeling to it.

Nailed it. This is exactly what it looks like.
Ok I think it looks better than a Royal Oak!
Royal Oak: reminds me of a diver's helmet
Code 11.59: reminds me of 'How would you define a luxury watch?'
Hafiz, just keep telling it like it is. We have your back on Patreon.
You are completely wrong about the Code, the exact same words you used to describe the Code people in 1972 uses to describe the RO.
That's why the AD told me that I can't get any steel royal oak unless I shop on things such as code1159
the dial is totally mediocre

Again AP are pushing the envelope and being bold. Beautiful watch. The quality is in the details. Most pateks look like rotary from afar but haute horology is about the execution of the finer details. The code 11.59 will be a classic
absolutely, at least 90% of people would agree on your analysis
also you see how thick that watch is, i'm disappointed to learn that they just produce mostly one size of the case to fit different movements. I don't think a simple watch with same should be the same thickness as a watch with complication
Poor AP for trying too hard to come out with what they hope another icon watch like the RO. Genta would be rolling in his grave with this department store looking design watch even with the overly design case.
The AP 11:59 doesn´t speak to me either.
Dial looks like a mall watch for sure. Case shape has alot of complexity but it adds nothing to the watch for me.
I dont like the Royal Oak, it looks very dated to me. At least it made it statement though
Royal Oak looks dated? It looks brilliant, dated would be the Rolex Submariner.
Thanks for the review. The usual high quality is displayed. However I disagree completely with your take. I think this is an amazing looking watch that speaks to the past, present and future
Your a Royal Oak Fan Boy.
This is the new direction.
It might not be another future ‘icon’ but unnecessarily harsh and unfair comparison to RO. It isn’t a RO and well done for them for not perpetuating this. Perhaps it inspires them to offer something else tomorrow
If that inner engraved ring were made of gold like the case..
Thankfully, in the less than two weeks since this videos release; the Black Panther has silenced any design criticism of the brand.
When this watch was released,I thought, wtf were they thinking??Such an iconic brand, coming up with a new product looking like that?? Someone should be in jail for this. Some watches get more desirable through the years, but this one is not among them.At least in my eyes.
Most beautyful watch
The only interesting Code 11.59 to me is the perpetual calendar with aventurine dial. That is a true work of art. Rest is meh.
Code 11.59 has grown on me after recent releases. New calibers are engineering pinnacle in watchmaking. We should bear in mind that it is not easy to develop a brand new concept after legendary Royal Oak. One constructive feedback though: please lower background music volume and speak faster in new videos. Thanks.
Do not listen to this women, your cadence when speaking is exactly on point
I must be the only one but...I’ve tried it on at the boutique and I really like it, it’s obviously not as good as a Royal Oak, but what is!?
Wunderschön da kann rolex und pp spazieren gehen 😜
Ouch, if I were an AP designer, I'd probably start drinking after seeing this.

Metal of steel
To be honest, I never knew why they were popular in the first place, but kept my words to myself, as a case of to each to their own taste.
I actually like this new watch more than their other watches too. It's a shame that it's so unpopular. They should have released a lot of watches at once instead, and made it look like they were simply diversifying their collection.
Ouch 🙊
Real gold, aliexpress design
The problem is the bezel so thin.. if they fix that, and reduce crystal size.. it would look much better
will I buy it with my hard earned money, I probably would... If i knew NOTHING about watches.... lol. the AP lover is not so impressed.
I'm definitely in the minority, but I like the Code 11.59 chrono
i've seen this watch in person, not impressed. The fact that people only care about it because it's AP and sometimes they want you to buy 11.59 before they offer you an royal oak. The 11.59 is bland, not interesting, also somehow a cheap feeling to it.
This watch maybe ordinary but your reviews are anything but.
