  • At the risk of losing a bunch of hardcore MTB subscribers, I've got a confession to make. I've been using Zwift occasionally since Beta test versions leaked out to the media over a decade ago and it's great for getting a calibrated cartoon pedal in on those days you can't ride properly because you're a bit broken like I am now or you just haven't got time. Mrs K uses it a lot too so when I heard about the new Zwift Ride bike to use with the KICKR CORE trainer I figured we'd give it a go. So watch me fumble with the build and then go through the immediately obvious Pros and Cons before Sarah jumps on for the initial ride review that's linked from the end.

I think this is going to be a great setup for a lot of people. I’ve owned a Stages SB20 for a few years. Kind of in limbo with Stages going out of business but Giant just bought it so who knows if they will actually support it. This Zwift bike would be on the list as a replacement. I typically ride Zwift and TrainerRoad and this bike will work with TrainerRoad as well.

I've got an SB20 too so worry about support. But I've also got a wahoo kickr V5 which apparently is not compatible.

looks like a decent bit of kit for most but I think they've missed a trick not having it compatible with the kikr climb or having a climbing function built in.

@@karlj711 I guess they didn’t want to tread on the toes of the integrated tilting smart bike. You’d think making it compatible with the existing climb ‘leg’ would have made sense though eh?

They wanted to keep costs down. Same reason why it uses a chain, not a belt. A few other bells and whistles people are wanting, too.

The assembly seems needlessly painful. But I like the buttons on the handlebars, means you can play Sekiro and train at the same time.

TBF it would be less painful had I realised where the axle was hiding straight away. Also there'll always be a compromise between packing size and level of pre-assembly. At least the seat post and 'fork' are already installed.
