    Hey Ben, when you first got started with intensive non-selective rotational grazing and before your paddocks got to looking as great as they look today, after moving the herd, I’m sure you noticed some weeds and so forth that the cattle just didn’t take a liking to. Did you ever go in with a brush hog to knock them down so that the more desirable grasses can grow out? Thanks!

      Yes, I still do. If they don’t graze it down, you need to “graze “ it. Brush hogs are good but as small as the paddocks are, a weed eater is better IMO. I love the E-Go electric trimmer

      @@grazing365Too funny, e-go that’s what I use. Hey Ben, what’s your current carrying capacity?

    Great video. I think it is so helpful when you walk across the pasture going back in time to show the regrowth. Going from just eaten all the way over to 40 days and ready to graze would be great.
    When is your calving season?

    • @grazing365
      @grazing365  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Calving season for us this year is April-August. I know….thats way too long. This herd has both Spring/Fall calvers.
      This year the bulls are going in July 5 - September 6 (63 days). That will have us starting in mid-April next year for 63 days

    Man I cant wait to get on the farm full-time. Ben, you give me lots to think about what its going to look like when I can manage more intensely. I really believe in your high harvest efficiency method unfortunately I am limited with time due to an in town job so am locked into once-a-day moves. Any suggestions for me do I need to be 100% out of debt to make it happen or what was your path? I did not inherit a dang thing I'm a first-generation farmer. My home farm of 70 acres and house will be paid off in 60 more payments. I am leasing another farm currently that is connected to me, the lease is for 7 more years. The owner does want to sell it after the lease is up I would love to buy it but am dreaming of a debt-free life. Do you have any suggestions?

      Great job getting back on the land. Focus on maximizing what you have. 70 profitable acres is far better than 1000 unprofitable acres. Don’t be in a rush to buy land. Get your template down before you expand

      @@grazing365 Thanks Ben appreciate the reply means a lot. The next 4-5 years will be focusing on refining genetics which I am lacking big time.

    Im in ohio. I have 3 acres of pasture and 3 Dexter's in it. Moving from paddock to paddock and the grass is outgrowing us. Should i mow part or behind them or not? Adding other animals not option right now. Some are starting to get seedheads and 3 ft tall.

      @grazing365  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends. Keep in mind that half the farm should be ungrazed and stockpiling for your winter forage

      @grazing3654 thanks. I'm trying to keep it in mind, but it's so tall in the new pad I just moved to yesterday the cows can disappear. Lol

      How far apart are your watering points?

    • @grazing365
      @grazing365  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The water points are at each end of the water lane. Depending how n the paddock, they are anywhere from 50-500 yards away from one or the other

    That’s the way you should do it all the time if you have the time or have someone do it. High density.
